China Whampoa Homemade Noodles located at Blk 91 Whampoa Drive Market & Food Centre specialises in homemade (handmade) noodles. This stall is well known as it has been featured on several TV programmes related to food. I visited China Whampoa Homemade Noodles on a Saturday morning. I was surprised that there was no queue at this stall. The reason was because they customers were told to find a table nearby and come back at a certain time (e.g. half an hour later) to collect their bowl of noodles.

They serve a variety of noodles such as Ban Mee and You Mian. In addition, these were available with prawns, abalone clams, sliced fish, pig's kidney or even with abalone!

Abalone Clams Hand Made You Mian $4

The Abalone Clams Hand Made You Mian was delicious! It consisted of abalone clams, vegetable, minced meat and ikan bilis. The homemade noodles (you mian) was springy, soft and flavourful! It tasted slightly different from the other homemade noodles stall and seems to be accompanied by a hint of sweetness.

The soup was refreshing. It was robust, sweet and not salty. One unique ingredient which was used was the mani cai 马尼菜(aka sweet leaf). This was an essential ingredient as it provides a natural sweetness to the soup.

Chilli Paste

The homemade chilli paste was slightly sweet with a extremely spicy after taste. Despite the spiciness, it was just so shiok (addictive) that I continually dipped the minced meat into it or just add some to each spoonful of noodles. By the end of this meal, I nearly finished all the chilli paste and found myself with swollen lips (just like Angelina Jolie's bee stung lips - sexy) haha.. You have been warned!

Notice the containers of chilli paste? They started selling the chilli paste to customers after receiving feedback.

Service wise, it was impressive as the owner was attentive and polite. He never once snap at customers when some kept asking if their food was ready. In addition, when I wanted to pack some back home, he voluntarily offered to put the soup in another separate takeaway bag. Not all hawkers does this! Kudos to him.

Overall, China Whampoa Homemade Noodles serves one of the best bowl of homemade noodles in Singapore. Both China Whampoa Homemade Noodles and Poon Nah City Home Made Noodle 文尼城市面粉粿 are uncanny similar to each other. And maybe that is why I also rated Poon Nah City Home Made Noodle as one of the best!

Normally others hawker or food court is selling ban mian noodle with egg, which i not really like it. I prefer this, the best ban mian i found here. The soup taste so sweet and flavorful, it come with big prawn, minced meat, slice fish. The noodle is nicely handmade with tasty soup. Will highly recommend to my friend! It take about 20-30 minutes to be serve the food, it cost $6 per bowl.

On a Saturday night, business was brisk at this stall. But once I saw black mushroom slices, I was sold. I would wait for as long as it would take. Finally! My bowl of Home made noodles with my raw egg yolk and ignoring everything else, mushroom slices! There was a good amount of actual minced meat. Not like other stalls that have such a high fat to meat ratio, i'm basically just eating fats. The soup base was good. Not too salty nor MSG laden. Worth every bit of $3.50 and time spent.

The food is good, their service is friendly and that is probably the main factor to get their customers to keep coming back.

Whenever you are in the area this is a die die must eat dish. The wait is well worth it, expect to wait up till 40mins for a bowl of noodle. The dry version taste just right, noodle very springy. The sauce taste sweetish and not too salty. It mixed well with the noodles. I find the chilli a little too spicy for my liking. Those who prefer extra hot they also have extra serving of chilli for you. Overall I find it nice and filling for a brunch.

Definitely recommend this stall, have not found another stall which is better than this. But try not to take away, it does not taste as nice.

The clear looking soup was intensely flavourly with rock sugar and ikan bilis, makes it refreshing each time i drink the soup.

For a mere $10 bowl of noodles, there was a wide variety of ingredients that went into it. There was abalone in slices, minced pork, choice of prawn or fish, thick slices of stewed mushroom, crispy ikan bilis, mix of wolberry leaves and Chinese ebdives. All the ingredients were remarkably fresh, especially the sweet and crunchy large sized prawns.

It is evident that care and detail went into preparing every bowl of Ban Mian. Even the prawns had been thoughfully shelled in the miid section for the convenience of diners. Only this stall has the extra ingredient -Passion which not only warms the tummy of diners but the heart of all dinners.

At times I get so greedy that I am compeled to add in 'this and that' such as prawns and kidney. If i didnt remember wrongly, this bowl cost $5. Or was it $4. Anyhow it is definitely worth it.

I waited for about 30 minutes or so before the boss signalled me to collect it. My bowl of noodle came with 2 pieces of fresh tasting medium sized prawns and 3 slices of abalone clam. The noodle served with a handful of veggie to make this a even healthier choice for lunch.

The soup both was a little less concentrated this time as compared to my previous experiences. The texture of the handmade noodle was a little towards al dente just the way i liked it. Some people might prefer to have the texture of noodle to be a little softer but not me. The serving of fried ikan belis was a good addition. The superb hot chilli complemented it perfectly.

Dining here has always been a very comforting experience that gotten me to keep coming back.
