For full review, visit http://weekendeatwhatsg.blogspot.sg/2014/07/chong-qing-grilled-fish.htmlChong Qing Grilled Fish is very popular, especially on weekend nights. In fact, there was a queue already waiting at 6.30pm on a Friday. Patronage was a mix of local and PRC. I would recommend you to call and reserve to avoid disappointment. We chose the sea bass in fermented black bean (甘香豆豉) soup, and beancurd skin and enoki mushrooms as our sides. We were so excited when the fish came in a huge saucer with the hot stove beneath! The regular size ($30) was huge and enough for two pax. A thin layer of chilli spice powder was sprinkled on top to give a kick to the fish which was grilled to perfection. The sea bass was very tender, fresh and tasty, evident of the oil, herbs and spices that were used to marinate the fish. We slurped all of the black bean soup which was aromatic, and packed a balanced punch of saltiness, savouriness and sweetness. We were very satisfied with every aspect of the fish and there was really nothing to nitpick. We had the opportunity to try the authentic Chongqing spicy style - Spicy Fragrant 一品香辣(medium spiciness) on another occasion. OMG. I can only say the spicy fragrant soup is not for the faint-hearted. The chilli oil was very hot, spicy and numbing. I am not exaggerating. My fellow diner, who is a major consumer of the chilli industry, also found it too spicy and numbing. By the end of the meal, we felt our tongues did not belong to us. Good idea to bring a frenemy here if you want to do a kamikaze. But this is their signature lah. Chong Qing Ma La mah. Suggest you choose mild spiciness level. Just drink more water which is free. I think I drank more water than the soup. Or have some cooling desserts just opposite Chong Qing Grilled Fish. I highly recommend the durian shaved ice at Desserts First.Indoors are air-conditioned but you are more likely to smell like grilled fish at the end. Outdoors might be too humid on a hot day. If you are lucky like us, you might get a seat that is indoors but close to the main door-less entrance which will grant you the best of both worlds - Cool air-conditioning and good ventilation. continue reading

Loved all the things with hot and spicy, it was not a secret. I came to try out Chong Qing Grilled Fish, popular about the heavily-flavoured cooking. Restaurant was in brightly simple décor, environment was comfy relaxed. Placing the tissue paper on each table, it was a thoughtful idea for patrons to swipe off sweats or even tears.Flamingly flavourful dishes served up at the same time, they were really fire alarming appetizing. Let me talk about long beans in minced pork dried chilli first, the plate was full of spicy aroma with well done texture. Steamed egg with tofu was mildly delicious, finely-chopped pork drizzled on top generously smothered the Fish wise, we were allowed to choose the fish type. Then shift the cooking style, we opted for numbing-lips Sichuan sauce. Absolutely fresh, meat remained springy even shimmering in excessive gravy. Sensible pricing, our bill was not too expensive with such satisfying meal. continue reading

first time dining in Chong Qing Grilled Fish Restaurant as my friend bought me here to celebrate his birthday , as he recommend that the Grilled Fish here taste deliciousYou can choose what kind of fish you want and the level of spicyness . We choose red snapper with the ma la base at medium spiciness. The fish is grilled and the meat is very fresh and soft and absorb the spicyness of the broth and we also add side dishes e.g golden mushroom ,potatoes to cook along with the broth The broth is spicy and oily where you to scoop up the layer of oil before eating . But overall it was nice and delicious food continue reading

My friend found their poster in China Town MRT station. Both of us like spicy food a lot, so we plan to go there together. They have 2 stores, one in Chinatown and one in Bugis. We decide to go shopping at Bugis junction, so we go to bugis branch just cross a street from Bugis Junction. Walking through the street, there are full of restaurants. We had a moment want to try other restaurant, fortunately we choose this one at the end, because it is a right choice to make. We visited at lunch time. ( Remember to go there for lunch only during weekend, they do not open lunch hour during weekday. ) Not many customer there, around 6 tables eating in the restaurant. All of them have a stove of fish on the table. Of course, we all came here for the grill fish. We order a regular seabrass and choose the floveur of (泡椒) and little spicy. Also, we order a 雲泥白肉. It tasted just so so. But it is good to have some appretizer while waiting for the main course. Go back to the fish, it is a whole fish, unlike the one I tried before it is half-fish. I expected the heat of the strove is stronger, but this one just to keep the fish warm. At the end of the meal, I think it is better to have such a fire rather than bubble hot. As the fish will become more salty and spicy slowly. Even little spicy is bit stronge for me. But I like it so much. The seasoning of the fish and the charcoal-grill flaour is absolutely delicuous. The cook-in side order is so yummy too. We spend about $50 for 2 of us. Must come back and recommended.:chopstick: continue reading
