We had been talking about going back to Malacca to eat crepe cake (Nadeja) but also know that there is a crepe cake restaurant which sells very nice crepe cake and have been looking forward to try it if there is a chance. Today is the day and since I already know where the restaurant is, I guide my girlfriend on how to reach the location. The restaurant is actually a very small shop front at Clementi Arcade mall (The parking space are very limited and small). There are just 2 small tables inside this restaurant (Good 2 -3 person group per table dinning in) or to wait for your cakes to be ready. We order 2 different type of Crepe cake and start to share between us and true enough, this is a very nice and heavenly taste. Since I had eaten in a few places for crepe cake, this is the best that I had eaten so far while I am still waiting to go back Malacca to try out the ones there.I think the original crepe cake is the best as each and every bite you take, it gives you the nature freshness and nice taste of the crepe and cream. One thing to note is that the cake still stays in its form when you try to cut the cake using fork which means the chef who made the crepe cake is able to make it super soft and able to maintain its shape. (Unlike some of which I eaten, the shape is destroyed with that very first single cut using the fork)I do not really like chocolate chip type but still, it is very nice and soft and just nice type of sweet. There is a melted sugar on the crepe cake which you will be able to taste that sugar burned bitter after taste which match very well with the sweetness of the crepe cakeThe restaurant do not provide any water so you must either buy it from other restaurant or at the supermart nearby to drench your thirst after eating the crepe cake. (How I wish I can enjoy the crepe cake with some English or Chinese tea.) continue reading

Classic Cakes was founded in 2005 by Charles Quek who has turned his passion of baking into his career. Located at one of the shops near the famous Daily Scoop Ice Cream Shop in Clementi Arcade of Sunset Way, its hard to give a miss to this shop especially when there are many articles on its glass windows about the Baker, Charles.Mille Crepe is becoming more popular in Singapore nowadays.I quite fond of this French Pastry and I could not take my eyes away from the chiller once I spotted its existence! Mille refers to thousand in French and such pastry make up of 20 thin pancake layers with fresh pastry cream consistently spread in between the layers.Cake was served chilled with a burnt caramelized Sugar taste on its top layer. What's more its hard to find a place that sells such pastry and I had my luck to even tried on their Durian Mille Crepe which was not commonly available in the shop. Likes!Cost: $8.50Like the former, the layers on the Tiramisu was well defined. Tasted moist with sponginess as you bite down those mascarpone ‘cream' with coffee favours. However, this might be a disappointment to rum lovers as its favour wasn't that strong but still it totally floats my boat!Cost: $5.30Attended by the boss, Charles, during my visit, I find that this guy was rather polite. There were only 2 tables for dine-ins and slices of cakes were served on disposables plates and forks which make it easier to clear up just by throwing the used materials into the bins provided at the corners of the shop.Overall, its abit pricey but I would say its definitely worth the money! I will be definitely making a return to try other favours. Still amazed by the appearance of traditional Chinese radish cake in their shop. Alright, I will try this the next round! For more interesting reads, visit http://umakemehungry.blogspot.sg/2013/10/classic-cakes-anyone.html continue reading

I was shopping at Cold Storage and I had from my friend that there was this Bakery Store selling Salted pastry.I thought I heard wrongly, until I went into the Bakery Store and saw them selling Sea Salt Caramel Brownies. The Brownies looked normal though, chocolate colour and it should tasted sweet?Until I bite on the Sea Salt Caramel Brownies, I realised the top layer crust was actually salty.Below the chocolate layer was sweet and heavy in chocolate flavour.Although a strange salt and sweet combination, the Sea Salt Caramel Brownies tasted good. But price a bit on the high side for a small piece. continue reading

What's better than sinfully rich brownies? Classic Cakes' got the answer: sinfully rich brownies stacked with a layer of salted caramel. Chocolate and salt go wonderfully together, and this is no exception. I wouldn't have minded if the sea salt caramel was a tad saltier though! I personally like my brownies soft and fudgy instead of chewy, so I'll warm these sea salt brownies ($3.80 each) up before serving next time. continue reading
