When I learnt of this restaurant, I simply had to try it out. Prices weren't overly expensive either, averagely $15.

I ordered the Cheesy Pork Katsu Curry Rice. Regretted not taking the omu version and add cheese! Was afraid it would contain lousy fried rice within. Turned out it was the usual Jap rice. What was unique was, you could choose the quantity of rice (w cost). For an average eater, the standard quantity is enough. Very filling!

Also, you could choose the spiciness level. I didn't want an upset tummy, so I just went with with Level 1. Good enough for me.

It was absolutely delicious!
The spiciness of the curry was just right for me and amount of curry sauce was also sufficient. If you spot those yellow blobs in the curry, that was the cheese! Yummy!
Loved it when I sank my teeth into it, and its strong flavour burst out in my mouth!
The pork cutlet was not over-fried, so the batter was crispy and not hard. Meat within was also thick .

My only gripe would be there was not a bit of veg in that dish (had to resort to the sweet red pickle on the table). You could add on (w cost) stuff like corn etc, though I thought it would be better if it is already included in the mains.

The waiters here are super efficient, albeit a little distracting when they're interrupting your conversations with their re-filling of glasses and clearing of dishes.

Forget the calories, and get yourself some Japanese curry!!

Total Cost: Cheesy Pork Katsu Curry Rice - $14

This curry rice taste different from other japan curry rice that is too sweet. This curry rice is thick and taste good. But must be careful in term of the selection, cos some after a few scoop, would feel sick about it, as the favour is too rich. My favourite is the chicken and omelette rice. The omelette is awesome perfect with the curry rice. And they are very generous with curry!

I picked level 3 for the spicy ranking, I prefer Omelet Selection. Generous amount of clams and softly cooked Tomatoes soaking in the gravy, overall was mouth-watering. Fluffy rice was wrapped inside, pipping hot savoury. Interestingly part was that, rice portion was flexible, counted by grams. The average cost was around $15.00, absolutely affordable.

It was quite cold so I ordered the hot milk tea.. I think it's a bit overpriced for normal lipton tea with milk.

Then I ordered the pork omelette curry rice. It was delicious.. but i feel the pork is not soft enough.. but it's okay, maybe chicken is better. The service was a bit slow... it took around 30 mins ++ to get my meal served.. I was like super hungry already. But overall it's not bad.

I ordered the Pork cutlet curry rice and add egg plant.

The curry gravy tasted more spicy than other Japanese curry. It was also heavy in curry aroma and taste.

The pork cutlet was a bit disappointing. The battered cutlet was crispy. But the meat inside was dry and slightly rough, not tender.

The egg plant was deep fried before, though the meat was moist but the size was quite small.

I really like the concept of CoCo Ichibanya, where you get to determine the extent of spiciness of the dish you order, and what surprised me more was that not only could you choose to add rice for a fee, but you could also reduce the portion of rice from 250g to 150g and save $1 on your meal!

They have a wide range of meats you can order with your curry rice, and I ordered one with chicken cutlet. For the spiciness level, it ranges from 1 to 5 and I decided to play it safe and go with 2. It was really good, with the chicken cutlet fried to a glowy golden colour and the meat was tender and lean. The curry wasn't too spicy considering it was only at a level 2, and had a decent taste to it. I would recommend not reducing the portion of rice so you can finish off all the curry in your meal. One minor issue I had was that you had to pay for a glass of water, but the excellent service by the staff more than made up for it. You can also pay $4.50 to add on a drink, dessert and salad to your curry rice if you crave more variety.

We are looking for Japanese curry and we have come to the right place!Ordered Omu Rice and Chicken Cutlet Omelet... Not only do they look delicious already, they taste even better! You'd think it's too much to have eggs and chicken in the same dish, but here the chicken and the omelet complement each other perfectly. We got the ice lemon tea and the mini salad at the side as well... The ice lemon tea is the authentic one... they served the milk separately to allow us to add however much we like.

The service is excellent. Even though they are quite busy and seem a bit understaffed, they respond fast and always with a smile.

Went to this branch after craving for Japanese curry from my previous visit to Coco Ichibanya. Japanese curry is the only kind of curry I would ever eat, since it's not as spicy as the other curry you would get in Singapore. They have a unique combination of curry with ingredients you don't usually find in Japanese curry such as spinach, bacon and even tuna. Well, I wasn't that adventurous and decided to go for a more traditional Omurice + Tonkatsu set which I thought was just OK - I'm not much of a curry fan anyway.

According to the counter staff, you can actually request higher levels if you are game for it. The food came quite fast and the plates they used were huge.

i had the Cheesy Pork Katsu
Well, the cheese didn't melt entirely and it doesn't really go well with the curry. As you can see from the photo, the number of "rings" on the curry tells you what level of spiciness, this is a 3 flame curry sauce. at $14, it's not really worth the money.

A la carte curry with rice are priced from $10++. Our server recommended the set meal option where topping up $4.50++ buys you three extra items viz. mini house salad, choice of non-alcoholic beverage and dessert. One of the nicest things about dining at Coco Ichibanya is getting a discount if one asks for less rice. The standard portion of curry rice comes with 250grams of grains ~ probably too much for the average adult. We opted to scale down to 150grams of rice and paid $1++ less each.

I had their signature tonkatsu or pork cutlet curry rice ($12++ for standard portion)

which was very good ~ tasty and substantial, perfect for taming a growling stomach. The pork cutlet was lean, evenly coated with crunchy panko breadcrumbs and fried to an attractive golden colour. The curry was smooth, tasty and concentrated, coating the rice grains thoroughly. I helped myself to the container of their crunchy, homemade pickled radish which was the perfect side dish for the hearty meal. This is my idea of comfort food for all seasons/all weather.

I ordered the sliced beef one with lowest level of spiciness and added salmon croquettes! The salmon croquettes were great!! It's soft, crispy and melt-in-your-mouth kind! The curry was great! Not too spicy and a little sweet, I couldn't get enough of it! Although I feel that for the price, they could have added more beef.

Service was rather prompt, our food came 10 mins after we ordered but no one came by to refill our glasses despite not being crowded during mid afternoon period.

I insisted on getting the pork cutlet with cheese! You've got to add $2 for cheese, but I'm an avid lover of Cheese and it's soo delicious and sticky. Yummy! There's also different level of spiciness.. a low-level is quite spicy already, so you can slowly build up your level of intake!

The chicken cutlet also has the same type of curry too.. anyway, don't belittle the portion. It appears quite small at first but it's found to be extremely filling after you eat half of your rice mixed with curry and the cutlet. You can also add additional rice for $2 but it's really not necessary unless you are a dinosaur.
