I needed to grab a quick before heading back to the office. I ordered one of their signature dishes the chicken rendang. The first impression I had when the dish was served, the gravy seems too thin to be rendang. Looks more like curry chicken. The first taste of the gravy tasted like curry instead of rendang, the drum stick does taste good, very soft and tasty, very easy to bite. The acar not overly sour makes eating easy. The crispy and crunchy ikan bilis with peanut sure add to the flavour. Mix each item and eat the rice, sure makes a good meal except for the gravy part.

I wanted to try the mee siam from this stall, but got no chance whenever I want to try it, it will be sold out. Well today I'm here early so just give it a shot. The management tried to squeeze as many tables and chairs as possible. When I sat down with my food I do have this claustrophobic feeling. The space is tight hardly and space to move about. It's like they want you to eat and go.The sauce of this mee siam was sweet which I really like. The management tried to squeeze as many tables and chairs as possible. When I sat down with my food I do have this claustrophobic feeling. The space is tight hardly and space to move about. It's like they want you to eat and go.

The sauce of this mee siam was sweet which I really like. They are very generous with the tau pok and spring onion. The bee hoon very springy probably the way they cooked it. They also gave a whole egg instead of half, the chilli sauce also just nice not too spicy for my taste. Cost $3.60

Presently there's a promotion pay extra $1 for hot drink and $1.50 for cold drink together with the signature dishes like redang, laksa, mee siam and curry.

And today was such a day.

Thus I made a detour and walked towards Tanjong Pagar Xchange (just smacked right above the MRT Station) instead. The first "proper food" stall that greeted me was Coffee & Toast. I checked out the menu and decided to indulge in a bowl of laksa (takeaway).

The soup was a let-down. Though thick, it's sweet and not spicy at all. To think that I had actually requested for extra chilli...
All that the chilli had contributed, was a layer of red oil on top of the soup, the beehoon, the dao-pok 豆干, the fishcakes, the.. everything!!
I was sooooooo tempted to throw in my tissue to absorb the layer of oil first..

The big-plus redeeming factor, however, was the generousity of the ingredients given. There were many pieces of floating dao-pok 豆干, all soaked nice and soft in the hot soup (yummy!!), amidst their sliced fishcake and ikan bilis (yes, ikan bilis - not dried shrimps) neighbours. The was even a WHOLE hardboiled egg inside!

Overall, it was a satisfying meal, though oily.
And at $3.60, it didn't come cheap too.
