Three of us had three different la mian: the zha jiang la mian, the dry la mian in spring onion oil and the soup la mian with minced pork and vegetable wanton; and chose 2 xiao long bao and a deep fried spring roll as our dim sum items. We all had the very nice and warm soya bean milk! As a fan of their dry poached la mian with dried shrimp and spring onion oil, I chose that without hesitation, I love the fragrance of the la mian tossed in spring onion oil, oh so good! The other two la mian are also good and kept to standard.

How can we go without their signature xiao long bao, it's so worth having the xiao long bao in this menu list of choices! The deep fried crispy spring roll is really yummy, and served fresh, hot and piping. It's my first time trying their spring roll and I really love it.

This special set lunch menu is only available at two of their outlets, Holland Village and Ngee Ann City, and is only available on Mondays to Fridays from 11am to 5pm. But please note that the Holland Village outlet closes at 3pm for a break only to open for dinner later.

You know a food has achieved cult status when they have their own acronym. Crystal Jade's XLBs come in a bundle of four, the perfect number for everyone to monopolize one entire bundle. The natural comparison would be against the famous Din Tai Fung's. Crystal Jade's XLBs have slightly thicker skin, but somehow all four of them are leaking through their bottoms. Taste-wise I would say I still prefer Din Tai Fung's... However, to settle a regular XLB craving, Crystal Jade's still suffice.

Onto the la mian! This totally reminded me of pasta varieties! I was super surprised to find that Crystal Jade offers 8 different types of la mian types: (1) Dragon Beard La Mian (2) Double Width La Mian (3) Triangle La Mian (4) Flat Face La Mian (5) Broad Face La Mian (6) Double Line La Mian (7) Hand Torn La Mian (8) Hand Sliced La Mian. Number (7) and (8) require extra time to produce, I suppose the chefs need to take extra effort to make it. I wanted to try those but was too hungry to wait so I went ahead with the standard Number (1) Dragon Beard ones.

Out of all the la mian flavours, I chose my favourite Zha Jiang La Mian to try Crystal Jade's version of this dish. Many restaurants have this dish in their menu, and I actively try many types from Din Tai Fung, Paradise Dynasty, and Nan Xiang Restaurant. Crystal Jade's Zha Jiang La Mian is arguably the most distinctive from the rest. There is a thick coating of pretty intense sweet and spicy sauce around the smooth and finely textured la mian. I liked how the spiciness is adjusted to make it more tantalizing and also the minced pork was also quite savoury. The overall portion was super huge and almost felt like it was neverending.

There are many restaurants under the Crystal Jade Culinary Concepts franchise - the other two I've been to is Crystal Jade Korean Ginseng Chicken & BBQ and Crystal Jade Steamboat Kitchen.

This is the Century Egg Porridge. It was filled to the brim but in my haste to eat it immediately, I forgot to take a photo of it when it first came. The porridge comes with small crackers, the kind you get in an yu sheng. This porridge was nice and warm, not too runny. I like the taste of the shallots in the porridge. We also got the Steamed Rice Roll with Sesame Sauce ($3.80). I expected this to taste more like chee cheong fun but it was more chewy and seemed more like rice cakes instead. I di

Cystal jade has dim sum that is pretty competent considering te reasonable prices. The char siew baos are the best being soft and fluffy and freshly steamed. The filling is more savory than sweet, with chunks of fatty pork encased in a thick unctuous sauce that coats it evenly. Prices reasonably as well, the buns make for a really good breakfast or part of a very delicious dim sum lunch! Just remember to eat them while hot!

Crystal jade has the nicest char siew baos! They are really soft and light and fluffy, and i can eat three of them at one go! There are nice chunks of meat that are neither too fatty nor lean in the char siew filling, encased with a smooth thick sauce. In the restaurant they are served piping hot and freshly steamed making them even nicer to eat. Also available for takeaway at some outlets so you can take them home to enjoy!

Once we are seated, the waitress immediately asked us how many Xiao Long Bao we want. Subsequently, most of the tables surrounding us were enjoying their Xiao Long Bao which really worth the trip and the effort.

As for the soup base we have the chicken and Ma La which is the wrong choice. The Ma La is too chili hot for us and end up we just stick to one side of the soup.

For more images, visit: http://myworldmylifeliveit.com/2012/11/15/steamboat-affair/

Overall: For the price less than $30, it is definitely worth a try and definitely the good deal for steamboat affair!

My favorite Chinese restaurant. I have always love their roasted pork, their egg tart and their salted egg prawn. these 3 dish is a must to order whenever i visit crystal jade. Crystal jade always serve very nice and crispy roasted pork. Totally delicious and wonderful. I'm very very picky towards food and I'm super picky when it comes to egg tart. I dun like egg tart which is very buttery and have a strong smell of butter. Crystal Jade egg tart so far has met my expectation towards egg tart.

But still their SALTED EGG PRAWN is the best. The taste of salted egg totally match and goes very well with the fresh prawns that is being served.
It's a must try if you happen to visit any crystal jade kitchen.

I decided to visit once again as I was feeling under the weather and crystal jade's vegetarian noodle soup never fails to make me feel better. I love the broth that was used with these noodles as there were so flavorsome. I like the idea that the noodles are not undercooked or overcooked which would have made them too soggy. The Scallop was big, juicy and fresh. The vermicelli gave the dish a lift in texture and the sauce brought both the scallop and vermicelli together.

The food was still pipping hot when I reached home. Wonderful!! We tucked into the food eagerly. The dim sums from Crystal Jade sure did not disappoint. Each piece were tightly packed with delectable prawns, minced pork, mushroom. They were firm, yet not tough. Lovely to chew on, and flavourful to savour. The char-siew soh were a joy to munch on too. Crispy exterior with well seasoned, juicy char-siew fillings inside. Hmmm.... hoo-sek!! 好吃!!

I could keep popping these addictive pieces into my mouth!! Just lovely!!
