The meat was not too dry and was average. A little pricey though. Service staff were not too friendly as well.

Dining at Dallas Restaurant can be really costly but is definitely worth your every money as their food taste really good! Have bought their signature dish, which is the Roasted crispy chicken ($24) which the chicken meat is really delicious and is super juicy and tender. It is not too oily and flavourful. French fries are very crispy and not too oily too. Fresh crunchy lettuces which goes along with it is very healthy and delicious. Service here is super friendly and prompt in service.

Dallas is located in boat quay, and has rather good ambience, be it for a meal or just for drinks. I was treated to a 2 course meal some time back by my friend, and I chose the chicken cutlet baked with cheese - it was good but a little too oily and the amount of cheese given could be more. Cheesecake as dessert was average though. I think the 2 course meal costs about $24++, and a 3 course meal costs $30++.

Dallas Restaurant and Bar is conveniently situated (for the Raffles Place crowd) at Boat Quay. The furnishing is really quirky and American-inspired: on the first floor is that of a cowboy-theme whereas the second floor has a classy theme much akin to a restaurant. The bar snacks were not too bad, albeit a little expensive. We had the salt and pepper calamari. The squid is very chewy and encapsulated in a delicious batter. I had the 2 course set meal ($24++), and chose the mains and dessert. For the main dish, i had the Avocado Chicken Parmigiana. The portion is huge! And the chicken is pan-fried with breadcrumbs, topped with pasta sauce and generous servings of cheese and avocado. Yummy! I shouldn't be greedy and get the set meal, cause this portion more than enough for my tummy.

The dessert was chocolate lava cake with a scoop of ice-cream, and its heavenly. It was such a pity that I was too full to finish the dish.

Next up is Breaded Mushroom. There are many restaurants that serve sides similar to this, but none done as well as this restaurant. The mushroom is breaded together with cheese and fried, then served with a little mayonnaise on top. It's so good that the little boy across the table finished 3!

Served together with the Breaded Mushroom is Salt & Pepper Calamari. It's quite ordinary, but I thing I noted is that it's fried quite well and not oily. But I'm not sure how the salt & pepper came about..

Next is Alabama Pork Ribs. I'm not familiar with Alabama cuisine, but it sure taste kind of Indian style to me. The meat slides clean off the bone and the meat is marinated such that every inch is full of flavour.

The last platter to be served up is the Chicken Tikka with Coriander Mint Sauce. Months back, I had a meal in a luxurious Indian restaurant and was served Chicken Tikka as well, and to my delight, Dallas restaurant managed to re-create that taste! The meat is well marinated and flavour is just right. Definitely one of my favourites.

Moving on to the first main course with a full stomach, is Avocado Chicken Parmigiana. Forget the fancy name, it's basically chicken cutlet baked with tomato pasta sauce and a thick layer of cheese. It's the first time I've taste something like this, and I'm hooked! And to add on, the portion is really huge. In my opinion, this is the best value for money dish in terms of both price and taste. However, I didn't manage to taste any avocado inside, and honestly, I won't even know until I've seen the name of the dish, nonetheless, it's still a fantastic dish.

2nd last up is Beef & Chicken Fajitas. The fun part is where you can prepare your own popiah (for singapore style) or taco (mexican style). I'm not sure if I supposed to do this but I added a little of every sauce, and it does taste kind of weird. Something new and worth trying, but I probably won't come back for this one.

The last dish is kind of shocked me a little, both name and portion. The portion is quite huge because the restaurant kindly served us a full rack, and having the name "fiery" sends chills down my spine. Half of the rack is supposed to be sweet, and the other half, spicy. But both halves are equally sweet, and not spicy at all, in terms of my low chili tolerance level. Like the Alabama Pork Ribs, it is well seasoned and the meat slides clean off the rib. The only difference is probably the Fiery & Berri Pork Ribs is sweeter, and has the BBQ sauce flavour to it.

Overall, I like the ambiance of the restaurant with nice comfy cushions and excellent service. I've enjoyed most of the food served during the ORTU because it's mostly meat, and meat is my best friend. I recommend this restaurant for celebrating special occasions, and I will be back for the food again!

Convenience is key. You don’t have to wander far from the Raffles Place MRT Station to arrive at Dallas Restaurant and Bar –it is just a few steps away from the ‘starting point’ of the lively stretch of Boat Quay’s riverfront restaurants where the office crowds, tourists and expats congregate at.

Occupying the first floor is an alfresco dining area and bar. The furnishings match the kitchen’s intent –decidedly Texas-style.

If you’re planning on having an urban Dallas Cowboy themed party, you’re on the right track.

Walk up the stairs, and you’ll be in for a surprise. A contrast to the urban cowboy’s den on the first floor, a charming restaurant takes up the second floor, radiating a classy yet cosy vibe.

Salt and Pepper Calamari ($14)

The Salt and Pepper Calamari is stunning –far exceeding my expectations. The squid is plump and isn’t overly chewy; it is encased in an utterly delicious golden batter that isn’t too greasy.

When served with a slice of lemon and a dollop of chilli mayonnaise, calamari transfigures into something better than your typical battered squid rings.

Breaded Mushrooms ($12)

The Breaded Mushroom is a personal favourite.

The morsel will burst with earthy fragrant juices in your mouth upon the first bite, and melted cheese slowly coating your palate with salty creamy goodness.

Highly addictive. I wanted more.

Chicken Tikka with Coriander Mint Sauce ($12)

Chicken pieces are marinated in curry yoghurt sauce and char-grilled to perfect tenderness.

Deeply flavoured, it comes with a coriander mint sauce if you’d like an extra hit of refreshing piquancy.

Mains

Crunchy Honey Mustard Bacon Salad ($17)

Mixed leaves, tomato, crispy bacon and avocado topped with honey mustard dressing

I don’t like salads, and I will not order salad at a restaurant.

But, the Crunchy Honey Mustard Bacon Salad left me wanting more.

Love the honey mustard dressing –though not the healthiest dressing, at least it got me to eat my greens. Love the thick slices of avocado –adding that needed creaminess without the guilt. The bacon was crispy till the very last piece at the bottom –lending a much desired crunchy texture and saltiness to the salad.

Avocado Chicken Parmigiana ($23)

The Avocado Chicken Parmigiana looks like an adaptation of a Mexican dish, executed in a Texas style.

This dish is heavily sinful, but it is pure comfort food. It is a dish that you can stuff your face with after a break-up. Of course, if you’re already in good spirits, this dish will make you feel even happier!

Baby Back Berry and Fiery Ribs (½ rack $24, full rack $32)

Slowly braised pork ribs served with red cabbage slaw and potato wedges

The award-winning ribs were clearly the stars in the restaurant’s repertoire.

Forget the mediocre burgers. Order the ribs. That’s where Texan cuisine shines.

Thanks OpenRice for organising this awesome lunch session.

Chicken Quesadillas
This was the first dish that was served. Having a mild dish to start off as an appetizer was a very good choice. The tasty guacamole and sour cream dips added to the deliciousness. Merlion Wayfarer was thinking... if she were watching TV while eating these, she would finish off the whole platter easily ALONE within the space of one commercial break!

Lamb Sliders
Merlion Wayfarer's first impression was that this dish looked just like Burger King's Mushroom Swiss, especially with the melted cheese all oozing out. Surprisingly, the lamb did not taste strong at all. In fact, it tasted just like beef and was in fact quite enjoyable. Being tennis ball-sized also meant that it would never be too much of a good thing, and could be wolfed down in several bites.

Breaded Mushrooms
The big chunky mushrooms were fried in a lightly-dusted batter. Despite the deep-frying, each of the succulent mushrooms retained its taste - Neither the batter or the creamy garlic mayonnaise was overpowering. With each bite, the juice of the fresh shrooms just oozed out...

Salt and Pepper Calamari
Pairing with the mushrooms was another breaded favourite. Merlion Wayfarer liked the sweet chilli mayonnaise sauce atop the Calamari. Other than that, the Calamari was quite ordinary. (Come on, it ain't easy to wow with fried calamari mah...)

Alabama Pork Ribs and Chicken Tikka With Coriander Mint Sauce
The Alabama Pork Ribs was Merlion Wayfarer's favourite dish. And she did not usually favour pork dishes, much less pork ribs. So you can imagine how good this dish had to taste to be her favourite here...

Once in the palate, the strong BBQ taste of the pork ribs immediately dissipated slowly. With each bite, the juiciness of the pork mixed with the bak kwa-type BBQ taste and the special marinate and filled the palate with yummy goodness. One was definitely not enough!

Much like the Chicken Tikka found in South Indian restaurants, this version has been pre-marinated in spices and roasted. However, it was less spicy than the Indian version (probably to suit the Westerners' palate), and a tad too salty.

Crunchy Honey Mustard Bacon Salad and Chicken Penne Pasta
After three sets of heavy samplers, it was time to move on to two lighter dishes.

Merlion Wayfarer was not a fan of avocado. However, she found the Salad a welcome change to refresh her tastebuds.

The Spaghetti seemed to be a less carefully thought-out addition to the menu. Somehow, having a milder Italian-styled dish after some strong-tasting ones left it tasting bland and unmemorable.

Avocado Chicken Parmigiana
Dallas' version was made from chicken breast pan-fried in Japanese bread crumbs (not sure what exactly is the "Japanese" version), and grilledw ith pasta sauce, avocado and mozzarella cheese. Merlion Wayfarer of course enjoyed the cheese most. What lies beneath the cheese is secondary. And and, the fries served here was a bit too much. No more carbos, hopefully, for the rest of the upcoming dishes...

Southern Burger
The Southern Burger was our second burger in this sampling. It consisted of chargrilled ground beef topped with bacon swiss cheese, with atouch of bacon, swiss cheese, BBQ sauce, tomatoes and caramelized onions on a ciabatta bun.

The beef was done just right - medium-well. Unlike most burgers, this patty was not minced. In fact, you can see the layers upon layers of beef within the patty.

Beef and Chicken Fajitas
Essentially, these were Mexican popiahs - flour tortillas served with beef and chicken in caramelized onions, with guacamole, sour cream, salsa and re-fried bean (Have no idea why it's called this!) dips. Comparatively, the chicken tasted better than the beef.

Fiery and Berri Pork Ribs
It was with a big sigh of relief that most of the group greeted this as the last dish. Most did not dare try the "fiery" version, fearing that it might be too spicy for our local taste buds. But no, they were told it was adapted to Westerners' palate, and would be just mildly spicy. True true...

After trying both versions, Merlion Wayfarer still preferred the sweet taste of the berries. It was quite an interesting combination for red meats like pork ribs, and sort of left her preferring a dessert as a final dish...

Merlion Wayfarer Says
Merlion Wayfarer had accepted other food-tasting invites before.

Like most food-tasting sessions, there were really superb dishes, and there were other mediocre dishes.

Like many food-tasting sessions, the session was conducted during the restaurant's off-peak hours, so utmost attention could be provided to the food-tasters.

Like some food-tasting sessions, the owner or head waiter was there to give an introduction to every dish, and had assigned several wait staff to attend to the food-tasters.

However, Dallas Restaurant and Bar impressed Merlion Wayfarer:

When one of the food-tasters asked for a drink that was not provided as part of the food-tasting session, it was provided without question.

Even so when the glass was emptied, the wait staff topped it up without being asked. Not once, but several times.

The food-tasters were invited to visit the exclusive lounge at the top floor reserved for private bookings.

When some of the food-tasters were full and could not eat any more, takeaway boxes were provided for them to bring the food back.

A business card was presented to each and every food-taster by the restaurant manager. She was friendly, yet professional and attentive. She herself attended to serving our table with a smile and acknowledged each of our thank-yous.

Most of all, this was the most impressive spread that Merlion Wayfarer had ever experienced in a food-tasting session with a total of generous portions of 12 dishes!

Even my 8yr old grandson,Tyler enjoyed the food. His fave being the BREADED MUSHROOMS,served with creamy garlic mayonnaise. As for me,my fave would be the ALABAMA PORK RIBS & also the LAMB SLIDERS. The pork ribs were tender & juicy besides the meat came off the ribs easily. Whereas the Lamb Sliders are actually Mini Burgers served with fries. The patties are freshly made & tasted delicious.
Would recommend this place especially to those who have a big appetite.
Thank U OpenRice & Dallas Restaurant for giving me this appetizing experience.

Decor is minimalistic with little frills, but the rather smallish interior made for a cozier atmosphere. There is a third floor as well but I believe its reserved for private functions.

Salt & Pepper Calamari - The calamari was very decent when consumed piping hot but when left to cool, the oil in the thick batter solidified and saying it was gross would be an understatement.

Chicken & Cheese Quesadillas - I thought this dish resonated quite well with me, falling pretty much into the comfort food category. Gooey cheese with chicken bits and a nice chewy texture from the dough - what's not to like

Shredded Pork Tacos - As appetising as they looked, I found the pork tacos wanting in flavour and texture. The pork's texture reminded me more of sardine then pork and it honestly didn't taste like pork. Still edible though.

Tempura Barramundi - The tempura batter was too thick and to make things worse, the fish wasn't fresh. Imagine chomping down on a piece of flour with a fishy aftertaste. A heavy dosage of lemon would definitely help.

Dallas Wings - The wings took the honours for being the worst dish of the day in my humble opinion. There was zero marination and the flour coating was tasteless as well. A dash of salt would have done wonders. There was also the problem of inconsistency in cooking. Some pieces of chicken were overcooked while others were okay.

Baby Back Pork Ribs Done in 3 Ways - Fiery, Alabama and Smoked Hickory BBQ - The fiery ribs were very sweet and garlicky with a mild spice twist at the end. Tender meat was definitely a plus.
I thought that the smoked ribs were overwhelmed by the BBQ sauce and the meat wasn't as tender as I would have liked it to be.
Strangely enough, the Alabama ribs were more spicy then the fiery ribs and came across as sweet and garlicky as well.

Beef Fajitas - The beef was purportedly 100-120 day grain fed beef and though the meat was noticeably tender, any hopes of a nice beefy taste was ruined by the excessive curry powder, which was a pity really. The guacamole and sour cream dips provided scant comfort.

Breaded Mushrooms - Dish after dish of deep fried stuff. When it got to the breaded mushrooms, I was all ready to regurgitate everything out. Fortunately, the mushrooms were still decent. A little juicy with hints of cheese within. Watch out for the thick batter though.

And in case you were wondering about my missing corn & crab fritters, it never came. Our table had to remind the waitress twice and the host once before the Alabama ribs arrived. So it was a unanimous decision not to bring up the case of the corn fritters to them, lest we had to wait for another 30mins.

Each of us coughed up about $27 for below average cholesterol laden pub grub, which is probably not the wisest thing to do. Service could have been much better and they seemed rather short handed. The place is nice and great for gatherings but something drastic has to be done about the quality of the food. Reasons like food quality dipping due to a huge turnout just doesn't cut any ice. Well at least the owner was nice enough to drop by to address our concerns about the food.

This is a nice restaurant for a date with a good ambience and can look at the Singapore river and the beauty of the CBD area at night. I went there on a Friday so the bar was already pretty packed and the restaurant at the 2nd level also started filling up as dinner time approached. I ordered the baby back pork ribs and it was served with seasoned wedges and red cabbage slaw. The pork ribs were fantastic as it was very well flavoured by the sauce. The meat was tantalizing soft and it just addict

The meat was tantalizing soft and it just addicts you with every bite. I am not a potato lover so I was really impressed by the wedges. The seasoning on the wedges certainly attracted my taste bud and they were really crispy. I loved coleslaw and the red cabbage slaw did not disappoint me. It was crunchy and sweet. The service was really good too as the waiter responds to my request immediately. This is really a good place for nice food, environment and ambience.
