For this review i must specially mentioned the yu sheng and eight treasure rice!

Yu Sheng - Almost all the yu sheng are very similar but what makes the one at din tai fung stands out is the crispy yam strips on top of it. Add a very interesting twist to it and it's yummy too!

Eight Treasure Rice - All along i always love glutinous rice and this has a variety of beans in it which makes it pretty good. Lovely colours too for the top and it's the perfect way to end a yummy meal with this.

Its roots dated back to Taiwan 40 years ago, when Bingyi Yang stopped selling oil and switched to making xiao long baos for a living. Businesses grew quickly with customers boasting about its exceptional quality and taste. Today, Din Tai Fung has became a widely acclaimed, international brand, offering customers distinctive culinary and service culture.

It was the 60th birthday of girlfriend's father and I thought, what's better than to celebrate over a table of signature dim-sum. As expected, getting a table on Friday evenings is pretty difficult and they do not bother with reservations under 8 persons. However, orders could be placed beforehand to minimise waiting, so food arrived even before we warmed our seats.

Xiao Long Baos, or affectionally known as XLB (S$6.80 for 6pc) are obviously a must-order. Thin melt-in-your-mouth dumpling skin with exquisite foldings, encapsulating the tantalising and juicy pork fillings was a sufficient reason to order second servings. Recently, they introduced the steamed chilli crab version (S$9 for 6pc) which is 40% larger than the original and consists of succulent crabmeat in spicy broth. For myself, I still prefer the former. Both are eaten best with vinegar and ginger.

Steamed Chilli Crab and Pork Buns (S$4.30 for 3pc) are clever twists to the original steamed buns, but lacks the "oomph", perhaps it was a tad too dry.

Shrimp Siew Mai (S$9.80 for 6pc) was slightly different from the normal steamed dumplings, their version was wrapped with dumpling skins in the shape of an auspicious money-bag, completed with a full juicy full shrimp on the surface. Amazing, yes, however, the high pricing is a minus point.

If there is one dish in Din Tai Fung that I had to label "under-rated", it would be their Goma Bun (S$3.60 for 3pc). Thick, flavourful black sesame wrapped within soft, fluffy bun was just purely amazing, or maybe because I was biased as a huge goma lover, but nonetheless, their rendition was genious.

Similar to their siew mai rendition, Shrimp Dumplings (S$7.30 for 6pc) consists of succulent shrimps mixed with juicy minced pork, wrapped with dumpling skins. Good, maybe, but definitely not awesome.

Besides dim sum dishes, Din Tai Fung serves a wide variety of enticing Asian delights like braised beef noodles, yang zhou fried rice and steamed chicken soup. This post is making myself hungry already, which reminds me to get lunch and search for more good dim-sum places. Recommendation guys?

Today we went to Din Tai Fung. We ordered a beef brisket noodles, dan dan noodles, pork and egg fried rice, steamed pork dumplings, steamed siew mai and vegetable dumplings. Overall, we were quite pleased with the service we received and the quality of the food. However, although we expected the food to be quite expensive, the portions were quite little. Overall, it was a good experience.

Whenever I want to eat Xiao Long Bao, the place to go will be Din Tai Fung!Their Xiao Long Bao are to die for especially when you eat it while it’s pipping hot. I like to sip the soup slowly before biting into the meat. I also recommend trying their egg fried rice with pork chops. Each and every grain of rice is coated with the egg and it’s really very fragrant. Can’t ask for a better egg fried rice than this. Highly recommended!

The Xiao Long Bao were probably our favourite - The temperature of those XLB was just right - hot but not scalding. Bite into one of these things too quickly and you can run the risk of burning the inside of your mouth with a jet of hot soup! (No wonder they're translated to Little Dragon Buns).

The Spicy Pork Dumplings in Red Chili Oil is another Taiwanese classic, and they make it good here as well. Very smooth dumpling skins with the right amout of spice.

The Braided Beef Noodles is good enough to share with two people - very tender and juicy brisket and chewy noodles.

For dessert, we had three little Black Sesame buns. The outside was white and smooth, but the insiders were filled with lots of black sesame paste that was sweet and offered a grainy texture to contrast with the outer bun. Very tasty and a good way to end the email.

Being a famous chain restuarant, prices are generally higher compared to the general Dim Sum eateries. Still, this is a good place to go to if you're craving dumplings and want a quieter meal with your own table. The various other menu offerings (noodle stoups, sauteed veggies, traditional Chinese dishes) are also good if dumplings aren't your thing.

We also ordered Noodle with Minced Pork in Bean Sauce. I liked the noodle. It was springy and nice. The Bean sauce was tasty and the pork was fresh.

Tasted the Beef Noodle Soup with noodle. Love the soup. It was flavourful and matched with the springy noodle. Taste was just so perfect.

Lastly we also ordered the pork chop fried rice. Felt that this dish was a little ordinary. Nothing too wow to shout about.

The only disappointment was with the service, they messed up by taking our order wrongly twice.

Din tai fung for lunch with my family members. We had some side dishes to share and one of them was the pork chop. This deep fried dish was really delicious. It was savory and juicy, and the outside was crisp while the inside was meaty and tasty. The dish came sliced into pieces so it was great for us to share. Although a little greasy, it really went well with the noodles we ordered and we enjoyed it immensely!

Din tai fung has a limited variety of dim sum type dishes however the quality of the product makes up for that. The crispy wantons were one of the best i have ever eaten, being super duper crispy and crunchy without being overly greasy. The filling was great too! Savory and moist without being dried out. Overall I really liked this side dish that we ordered to share.

A very humble fried rice, there was no luxury ingredient found in the rice. The portion was still okay, not too big but
enough.

Three of us were chatting when eating, it was an enjoyable thing. By now, I realize that not everybody have fortune to meet kind peoples in their life. I found mine and I knew very well who was the persons truly to me. I will appreciate it deeply.
