Its my birthday today so I tried eating over for dinner. Its my second trip to the same venue. Was giving my tummy another chance to this restaurant. The service is good, waiting time was minimal. Ordered 上海醉鸡,小笼包,素菜包 and 担担面.In short, the 小笼包 was nice. The skin was thin yet it did not break easily. There is tons of juice in it as well.As for the rest, I did not like the bao or the noodle. The 担担面 was not spicy enough and there is no soup in the noodle. It seems to have more pepper than chilli.

The chicken was alright. But we can have better options from other places.

Celebrated my grandma’s birthday at Din Tai Fung. Super love the xiao long baos! I could just eat that non stop. But of course I did not. Haha. We also tried the fried rice with shrimps and pork chops. Very tasty and appetizing. There’s no doubt about the quality of their food. However, it was super crowded. We were lucky we made a reservation before hand.

I'm not a big fan of Chinese tea but I'd normally drink the tea at Din Tai Fung because unlike many Chinese teas, it doesn't have the bland taste that I dislike. Also, I'm not too sure what "flavor" tea it is, but it doesn't have that common chinese tea smell that I can't stand. The tea is very refreshing and has a strong tea taste that is slightly sweet. It is perfect for quenching thirst or after a big meal. Din Tai Fung will normally automatically serve it to adults unless told otherwise. It

The xiao long bao is ridiculously small and unlike most xiao long bao, there is such a small amount of soup in the xiao long bao that when I bite into it, it won't even flow out or scald my tongue. Also, the soup has a sweet taste but the flavour is way too weak for a xiao long bao. The pork however, is very fine, and taste like any other average xiao long bao's pork.

The only positive thing I have to say about their xiao long bao is the way they serve it. The xiao long baos are placed on a white piece of wet cloth, which will not allow the xiao long bao to stick to it. Most restaurants' xiao long bao will stick to the aluminium foil or paper or cloth they use for their xiao long bao.

As a xiao long bao enthuiast, considering they are charging 10 pieces for $9.00 or 6 pieces for $6.50, I'd say it is totally not worth it as there are many better and cheaper xiao long bao out there. I will not recommend it to anyone.

Din Tai Fung serves several fried rice and I'd normally have their fried rice with eggs but I decided to see what's the difference between that and fried rice with shredded pork and eggs. The fried rice is not oily at all and is relatively moist. The shredded pork comes is a large strip of pork, which I'd really prefer if they had diced it or something because a strip of pork looks weird. The pork isn't dry and is pretty fresh. It doesn't have the unpleasant pork smell that I hate.

It costs $8.50, which is $2 more than Fried Rice with Eggs ($6.50). Personally, I don't think its worth adding $2 just for the pork but the overall dish taste good, but probably not worth $8.50.

Whenever I'm dining at Din Tai Fung I'd normally order for the fried rice with eggs since I'm not a big fan of chinese cuisine's side dishes. The fried rice is not too oily although it looks oily. The fried rice is very moist and the rice is well cooked. I've never found a single grain that's too moist and can be smashed easily. They normally use a generous amount of eggs and spring onions for their fried rice. The spring onions give a very refreshing taste to the dish and it is hard to get sick

I decided to try Din Tai Fung's noodles for the first time. They have quite a big variety of noodles and the noodle soup with fried pork chop looked most appealing so I ordered it. Their noodles are pretty thick and have a nice strong flour taste that's common among other popular chinese cuisine restaurants' noodles (E.g. Crystal Jade). The soup is sweet but pretty bland. I made the mistake of not telling them to NOT put the fried pork chop in the soup. After being soaked in the soup, the skin of the pork chop is soft and had this floury feeling that's kind of like soggy fries. The pork chop is pretty juicy but the skin really ruined it for me.

It costs $8.80 for a bowl and is very filling. However, I'd highly recommend everyone to have their pork chop be placed in another bowl/plate rather than in the soup.

My family decided to try the vegetarian deligt for an appetiser. The vegetarian delight consists of a wide variety of strips of vegetables (E.g. Bean sprouts) in a special vinegar dressing. The vegetables are very crunchy and juicy and they go incredibly well with the dressing. It is a very small portion though. It costs $2.80, which in my opinion, although tasty, is pretty expensive for a small plate of vegetables. However, it is worth trying!

The crispy golden prawn pancakes looked very appealing so my family decided to order one to share. The pancakes smelled incredible when served. It has a unique smell that is kind of similar to peanuts' smell. The pancake is very crispy on the outside and the outer layer is very thin so don't worry about it being too "floury". I decided to try Din Tai Fung's streamed chicken soup for the first time. It is their specialty tea, which they claim that only the freshest chickens were used and the the natural ingredients were enhanced by many hours of meticulous simmering to bring out its original flavour. The soup is very clear and it had the strong ginseng smell that I'm not a big fan of. The soup is very sweet and tasty. The chicken, as they said, was very fresh but only had an average taste to it. this was at $6 per basket of 4. there's also a 15% discount with your dbs/posb card. very well worth it methinks.

new and also only available till 31st aug is this 'wu xia' man tou in anticipation of the upcoming movie.

i was expecting a lot from this man tou the moment i glimpsed the promo on their website. there are 2 flavours - the black sesame, and the sweet potato - and you can't mix them, so we got the sweet potato. in my mind the man tou should ideally be really really soft and chewy, but it's just really plain and you can barely taste the sweet potato. it's not horrible, per se. just not fantastic. i really wouldn't recommend this.

we've been having century eggs everywhere after tasting them on its own at hong kong on a recent trip. these were really good - the sauce was just nicely salty, the yolks were really thick and creamy, the ginger slices added a really nice tangy flavour to the dish - all that makes a century egg dish good.

i didn't like these glutinous dumplings much. these were really thick and filling, and pretty bland as well.

apart from the queue at din tai fung which usually warrants at least a 20 minutes wait, the food, service and value are pretty ace. however, the shops nearby should serve as a pretty good time filler/distraction while waiting.

I believe Din Tai Fung's xiao long baos need no introduction. I can't fathom why i love this little dumplings which are full of hot soup which threatens to burn your tongue if you gulp it down at one shot, but good food needs no explanation nor justification - the stomach and tastebuds just say good! I always liked dipping my xlb in the vinegar and eating it with the ginger shreds. YUM. Xiao long baos for a happy stomach!
