Nothing beats a nice quite lunch at Shaw Centre - there's usually not that many people in this area unless there is an Isetan members sale going on. It's been a decade since I last ate at Dome, and I recalled how I used to love their pastry and coffees. I was seated by the window and ordered myself a Beef Lasagne ($15.90). The lasagne was not too heavy and had just the right amount of cheese. Although it get a little too salty, the salad on the side was a lifesaver and balanced out the saltiness

I also ordered myself a Long Macchiato - this is probably one of the few coffee places that still serves long/short coffees. You hardly get that any more these days. The coffee here is just as good as it was 10 years ago, with a deep chocolatey flavour that warms you up.

I ordered the Hawaiian chicken chunk and spicy tomato baked rice. It was really yummy and served warm. I liked the chicken chunks, there were not too big and was bite size. The chicken was seasoned well and went well with the tomato sauce. It was not overly cheesy, and just right. The baked rice still had the nice springy cheese texture. The overall setting was good with helpful waiters.

Yes i had the chicken confit here but on the menu its described more as slowly cooked chicken thigh then baked until crispy, served with creamy red skin mashed potato, garden greens and chicken gravy. I like the crispiness of this dish, even tasting better than duck confit version which I've tried at other restaurant before. the mash is also softer than usual and goes well with the well cooked but not too dry chicken. Also like the fact that the accompanying greens are decently sized and not pathetically small ones. Costing $15.90 before taxes, this lunch choice of mine concluded my 1st visit to Dome in years.

This Shaw outlet should be quite old judging from the condition of the couch seats but it does look cosy, the dining area is not too big and is a nice getaway from the busy lunch crowd but of course prices are a little higher than the usual lunch. My colleague also ordered a seafood platter to share. The seafood platter comprises of typical chix wing, calamari, potato wedges etc, nothing much to shout about though.

Service
Service was better than average. They "catches" the timing well. Food comes in order, with sides and drinks as first and the main as last. Plates were cleared up promptly before any new serving.

Ambience
A "peaceful" environment for a Thursday night. Environment makes customer feels relax and away from the bustling town life.

Price
Price is within the "ok" range considering I was dining in the orchard areas.

Ribeye Steak ($19.50++)
Although the presentation was kind of a turn-off (with really minute portions of carrots and fries), the steak was surprisingly good. The beef was juicy, chewy and retained every single bit of its natural flavours. And did I mention the portion was pretty decent for the price as well

Mushroom Soup ($6.50++)
The mushroom soup was thick, creamy, and definitely not canned. It was sheer delight to enjoy a bowl of hot piping mushroom soup especially on a cold evening. Nothing extraordinary about the soup; just pure rich mushroom soup worth every cent paid for.

In all, it was a back to basics dining experience. No bells and whistles attached, just authentic natural flavours abound!

This dish is quite different from the usual mashed potato which we had from most of the fast food restaurants or anywhere around us. The potato is very soft and moist, and the special part is that they have topped generous amount of mayonnise sauce on it instead of the usual black pepper thick gravy on it. The taste is sweet and really appetitizing. Great to have it on its own and with a cup of their signature fragrant coffee.

Mrupupup visited Dome at Shaw House in Orchard Road. The food at Dome is really nice. Mrupupup really missed their soup with a pastry on top of the bowl and its very special. Loved the taste of mushroom soup with the pastry (attached a photo). We also had pan fried salmon with brown rice, lava cake, cappucino and nice plum juice drink. Really enjoyable evening and the Dome restaurant was not noisy.

Caesar Salad with smoked salmon has always been one of my favourite selections of salads. Glad that the Caesar Salad from Dome is kinda up to standard - fresh vegetables and salmon with generous serving of dressing and bacon. Though the restaurant doesn't seem very crowded, we gotta wait quite long for our food and drinks to be served. Hence, visit this place only if you can afford to wait.

I ordered the lamb stew to share with my best friend.This is a memorable dining moment for me because we often share nice food together.The lamb was stewed to perfection as the meat was so tender and soft that it came off the bone easily. The thick gravy was also very delicious. Service wise was not bad but our food took quite some time to be served as it was during the peak lunch hour.

For the mains, my partner ordered Hawaiian Grilled Pork Chop ($15.90). It comes after about 15 mins from our orders. Quite slow for a restaurant that is not too crowded. There were probably only about 2 more tables ahead of us. There's 3 pieces of pork chop plus some olive flavored white rice hiding under the pork chop. Tried abit of the meat, it was quite hard.

I ordered Bacon Aglio Olio ($13.90). Came after 30 mins from my order. By the time my food came, my tea was already cold. The crew whom I think is the restaurant manager came to let us know that the kitchen is closing and if we have any last orders. Abit weird coz my main dish hasn't even been served. When we asked for my order, he said that they are preparing. The second time we chased for it, they still say it's being prepared. The third time we chase, they had to check my order to see what had not been served. Finally at 9.45pm, my long awaited pasta was served. Not sure why it took so long to prepare pasta!!! The best part was because they close at 10.30pm, the staff had to clean up the restaurant so while I was happily enjoying my food, the staff was busy sweeping the floor next to me. Not very hygienic, I should say. Maybe they should wait for diners to finish eating before they start sweeping. And if they could serve the food faster, I can eat earlier and then they can sweep earlier too. Just a thought. The Aglio Olio taste wonderful though. So it made up for the long waiting time and the annoying floor sweeping next to me when I ate.

Went to Dome Cafe for a teabreak. Got the Mocha Expeski ice blended drink. My friend had an ice coffee which comes with an ice cream which caused the coffee to be very thick after it has melted. The ambience of the cafe is quite nice, dimly lit and very relaxing. I shall pop by it soon again to enjoy a cup of ice blended mocha!

Teriyaki Baked Rice $11.50

The bake rice is really really flavoursome, the rice blend with the Teriyaki sauce and the fat free chicken give a very pleasant surprise underneath the fish flakes. If you have this Teriyaki Baked Rice here at Dome you will know it's distinctiveness compare to other restaurants or cafes. The portion of the baked rice is perfect not too big, good enough to fill you.

Dome Sundae $8.20

My sis had this and I had one mouthful of it. If you take a closer look at it, it is actually empty in the middle, kind of interesting! I don't know how they do it! While you are in the mid of having the ice cream, the ice cream will start to melt and it further enhance the chocolate syrup and that make it heavenly for chocolate lover!

Cafe Vienna $5.60

I like the presentation of the drink, the glass used with the hook handle is one of its kind. The coffee itself is not added with sugar and there's no sugar or any sugar syrup served with it but they served it with biscotti one kind of sweet biscuit so you are suppose to eat one bite and have one sip of coffee.

New York Cheese Cake $5.90

I didn't plan to have any dessert but having tried the Dome Sundae I was quite tempted to have it. At the bottom of the Cheese Cake, there's bits of almond chips.

All in all, every dish is special and they don't go with the norm. Even their pricing is one of the kind - they don't round it up to $0.50 or a dollar if you notice.

I went to Dome Cafe few times, although the menus have alot of choices but I cant resist the Lamb Shank, very tender & juicy meat garnished together with generous helping of sauces, mashed potatoes & blanched veg.I don't really like the Lobster Thermidor, so much different when I ate before at other restaurants.I also enjoyed the pumpkin soup, so yummy. Not forgotten, my favourite almond biscotti. For now, I am keeping my finger cross as to when, will I drop by again.
