With lots of chocolate crumbs on top, it has made me to choose this bun which has a name called Chocolenu. I have never seen this type of bun in our local bakery shop as it is quite unique. Taste wise has a nice soft and fluffy texture with an aromatic chocolate taste. As for the crumbs, it is not too loose and is quite compact. During this Halloween season, Donq has introduced a few Halloween theme bread and buns to celebrate the occasion. I was particularly attracted to this bun that is shaped like a pumpkin. The green tea flavour was just right without any hint of bitterness it it. It actually brought out the sweetness of the bun which was so soft and likable. However, i was pretty disappointed with the 'pumpkin custard'. Beside being rather stingy with the custard, the custard has no pumpkin taste nor colour at all. I am very sure it was just normal custard filling. The only comfort is that the custard is not too sweet and has a light vanilla fragrance. I really this is a one of incident to the misled description of their buns.

When you happen to pop by Orchard, do go around in search of those nice bakeries because there are a lot and some are newly open. I happen to see Donq so I decided to give it a try since I need to have my lunch.

The variety is a lot and I can't decide which to choose. I was then attracted to their Chocolate Banana Ring. It looks so much like a donut but is too big for a donut. I think it can fill my tummy up for the rest of the day. And subsequently I saw another similar one with the same size and packaging, 5Shokumame. I decided to grab these two to try.

I started with 5shokumame. A generous amount of beans even within the bun like red, green beans. And the size of the beans are big. Top of the bun is a light spread of icing. It makes the entire bun quite sweet at first but towards half of the bun, it is still not that bad. The bun is soft within and a little spongy. I tried tearing it to small pieces for easy consume and is kind of hard on the outside. So now I can say it looks like donut but the texture is not as soft as donut.

I left the Chocolate Banana Ring to the following day for breakfast. It still stays fresh. It is just the same as 5shokumame ring in texture but within the bun, a good amount of chocolate paste from every bite. The taste of banana only comes towards finishing the bun. I believe it comes from the top of the bun with something like chocolate paste or icing that has been crystallized and small amount of banana milk or something.

I probably should buy just one. One is enough to fill your tummy, I think whole day. I will try again on others in their list when I pop by Orchard next round.

This is a relatively new bakery at the basement of Takashimaya!! So how's the bread here? I only tried 2 types this time.Quite pricey... just these 2 already cost $5.20. I think the bread here are seriously overpriced.Spinach sausage bun, one of their best-sellers but I didn't really like it... a bit sick of sasuage bun.I prefer this one - apple sweet potato bun with almond nuts. Nice! It is not too sweet too!

Donq has really good breads and pastries. The adzuki red bean bun is my favorite. The red bean filling is just sweet enough with a nice clear distinct flavour of cooked red beans. The flavour of the beans really shines with no other competing flavours so you really taste the pure taste of the red beans. The bun is soft and fluffy holding up well to the filling, and complementing it well.

This place is a very popular Japanese style at basement food hall of Takashimaya Singapore. Prices is a bit higher compare to nearby bakeries in Takashimaya. The bakery offers a number of unique Japanese French style creations which I have a hard choosing. Chocolenu ($2.80)The top looks reminds me of apple crumble, but the bottom looks like a bun. Not very chocolate. Taste wise good.

I love donqs breads and pastries! The buns are all soft and fluffy and the variety of flavours offered are never ending! One of my favourites is the chocolate boule which is filled with pieces of dark chocolate! Extremely intense flavours captured within a soft light and fluffy bun. The cheese paripari is also delicious, and makes for a great afternoon snack!

Finally had a chance to sample yet another one of their signature breads that tend to sell out quickly: Chocolate Boule. It is essentially a soft, fluffy bun packed with copious amount of chocolate. The bread has a dark brown colour, thanks to the chocolate blended into the flour dough and you can still spot some chocolate chips/pieces suspended in the final product. Inside the heart of the bread, you will find a nice dense dark chocolate filling which completes the awesome chocolately package.

As with other breads, I find that the sweetness level is well balanced; not overwhelmingly in your face sweet which allows you to savour the other flavours presented in their breads.

tried their kouign amann, which is a breton cake. this cake is picking up on popularity as more bakeries are making it now. have tried only a few different ones. the one at donq is pretty good. the one at tiong bahru is pretty bad. but good or bad, all the sugar and butter makes up for it and you just crave more and more of the richness of this pastry. the one here is quite addictive! about $5

And i walk round the shope to search for the best seller bread and one that looks tempting. And i saw this bread which is stated that it is their best seller. Indeed it was good and there's redbean, matcha and some sugar icing around the bread. It is called Matcha Tiger Roll for about $4+ Yummy !!

Love love love this new bakery. It's a Japanese/French fusion that's done very well! The service is very friendly and helpful. The breads/pastries are fantastic. Quite competitively priced, but not cheap either. The quality if fantastic. I have to say it is much better than Tiong Bahru Bakery by Gontran Cherrier! Everything has the right sweetness and flakiness. And so fresh! And the pastries do not go soggy even when you takeaway and have it hours later.

Don Q Bread Shop - Attractive packaging. A famous bread shop with a long history in Japan is in Singapore.Green Tea Rasin Roll, it is so tasty that you can eat it plain but topping it with a butter spread is great!Plain loaf bread - can taste that the quality of the flour is good. Have it toasted and you can have a toasted crust with a soft centre bread. Toasted or untoasted with vegtable, ham and cheese or just vegetable and cheese is a great start for the day.
