This taste quite ok and i don't mind having it once in a while but overall i may still prefer to buy from Barcook as i have something i really like there and location is more convenient for me.

Looking for sweet bites, I ordered this in tiny cup. Exactly a Mango fan, it was so delicious for me. Made up by layers of Sponge cake with Mango mousse, pieces of fresh Mango slices were surprisingly at the bottom. Refreshing chilling dessert, texture was complex yet decently filling. Without overpowering, light tanginess was just nice aftertaste. Price was at $6.00, it was worth to have such succulent treat. No harm trying their delectable dessert with numerous heath benefits for our body, and they were delicious and comparable to most of the famous high-end bakery indeed.

This seems to be quite a famous bakery as I recalled seeing it featured in one of the radio shows before. There are many different varieties of bread and I am frankly quite spolit for choices. The young cashier was very friendly and she recommended me to try the White Pearl bread after understanding from me which type of bread I prefer. She recommended me the White Pearl as I mentioned I wanted something that is low fat yet tasty. The White Pearl is made using raw sugar and it is less sweet than its other breads. In addition, there are also raisins and walnut chunks in the bread and also the black sesame seeds. I would say I really enjoyed this a lot. The bread is not the pillow soft type but it is still soft enough and it is not too sweet. The sweetness from the raisins and the delightful crunch from the walnuts are more than enough to add dimension and flavour to the bread. At $1.90, it is a little expensive, but for the health benefits, it is worth the few cents more.

It's benefits include longevity, youth looks, prevention of hair loss and greying of hair. The Wolfberry Chrysanthemum is good for replenishing the blood and it improves the eyesight too!

Shaped just like a roasted sweet potato. I love the combination of the purple sweet potato and Japanese potato that is naturally flavoursome and sweet. And the pumpkin seeds on top just lends an extra crunch to the texture. The best part is that the bread is very fluffy and airy inside. This is definitely one of the best breads I’ve had in a long while. I don’t know if sweet potato really helps to lower cholesterol and the risk of colorectal cancer but I do know it is great in easing constipation and help improve bowel movement. So no harm in eating more of this!

I knew about this bakery as they were featured on TV! As I was around Tiong Bahru area, I decided to drop by this bakery to takeaway some buns! However, I was disappointed that most of the buns I had in mind were sold out already and I only got this Sweet Potato bun, which was the only one left! The breads that were offered in dough & grains had chinese herbs and TCM elements were added in. Each bread had a different benefit to it, for example, promoting longevity, lowering of cholesterol or even aiding with weight loss!

Tried out both the Black Pearl and Jade Lychee and they were soft, chewy and definitely flavorsome. Especially the Jade Lychee which comes with a strong lychee fragrance. You can also see from the picture below that it is one of the recommended item

The Jade Lychee is made from matcha and this subtle green tea goes really well with the fluffiness of the bun. It's slightly sweeter than the rest, and there are bits of dried lychee/apricot(?) in it to give it a twist. The dried fruit gives the whole bun a new flavour, making it slightly sweeter actually haha.

The Black / White Pearl is my favourite. I know that the black pearl has walnuts in it, while the white pearl has raisin/walnut in it. Both buns aren't really different in taste, both are really fluffy, slightly sweet, and is perfectly good to be eaten alone! The black pearl has a slightly crustier outer layer though while the white pearl is soft throughout. (Try toasting it -it's heaven!)

Cannot remember why the black pearl is black (bamboo charcoal walnut?), but I've got to recommend this to everyone -we admit it's a bit pricey given that the bun isn't really large and its $1.90 for a plain bun after all, but it's pretty darn good.

The spinach buns were slightly more ordinary. The spinach taste wasn't very prominent though (so those adverse to veggies should have no problem here!), but the texture of the bun was so soft and fluffy! Wouldnt recommend this though, on the whole.

The soft texture of the bun really complements the creaminess of the sweet potato -this wasn't too sweet too, which was pleasant. Not really a huge fan of sweetpotato though, and in comparison to the other buns, you're better off trying their special buns such as the Jade Lychee of their signature pearl series.

Pricewise, it's admittedly a bit pricey, but for the novelty of the ingredients and for the quality assurance that what you're putting into your mouth is of high nutritional value (think: fruits, chinese herbs and Japanese flour!), it's worth a try, but don't expect for Dough & Grains to be a new breakfast staple for your family!

Today, I'm going to introduce to you a special bakery, which produces bread with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) concept. It's the first bakery with such a concept in town. Curious what kind of bread do they produce?

Dough and grains actually produce quite a large variety of breads, tarts and pastries. And do read the labels on the shelves for description of the various bread and their health benefits.

We tried the Chinese Yam Tart ($1.90). Chinese Yam is known as huai shan and it is normally used in Chinese dishes. Who would have thought tat it can be made into a tart? It is said to enhance digestive and kidney system. The taste of it? The Chinese Yam taste is really not very strong. What I like is the texture of the tart, especially the crust.

We tried 3 different buns as well. They are all TCM inspired with herbs added in it like the Black Pearl with shouwu added in it.

Overall, it's a place more suitable for takeaways. It has a wide range of tarts and pastries as well. I'm sure to try their tarts next time!

For it's innovation and creativity, Dough & Grains is definitely worth your try!
