I'll be honest, for a chiffon cake, $7 is really pricey. The chiffon cake itself is very light, however the butter cream all over the cake, tasted very cheesey. The cheesey taste was unexpected and I am not sure if everyone would like it. It was more like a cheesecake + matcha chiffon cake.

The chocolate chiffon cake was more enjoyable than the Matcha Chiffon Cake, the chocolate cream was so delightable, I devoured it in no time.

Would I come back here for more of these $7 chiffon cakes? No, why? Because they're $7! But it was an interesting experience. I may come back to try the matcha roll though.

Sadly, the cream puff has been sold out this time round, and as i didn't feel like eating a cake I chose something light: smoked salmon salad.

Expect a mixture of Western meets Japanese cuisine including specialty pasta, beef spare rib stew, fish & chip. Lunch and dinner sets are served at a very reasonable price of below $15 and $20 respectively. If you go to their facebook page, you will also see that they have recently updated their menu.

Anyway, my smoked salmon salad was surprisingly good and hearty with thick slices of salmon and the salad dressing was a creamy type but light. They were definitely not stingy on the salmon!

The coffee there is not too bad as well.. i like the cappuccino. Overall a nice place to hang out if you want to avoid the crowd, and try to catch the cream puffs before they are sold out!

There were promotions for cakes when I went here and it was 3 cakes for $12! The cakes shown in the picture were quite delicious, except for the marble cake though because it tasted like normal sponge cake! Good for chilling. They sell beer too so you can relax here and chitchat.

With fresh slices of strawberries, this Japanese cake is fluffy and light in texture. Not creamy nor buttery.

Simply craving for more.

Though pricey at S$7.00 per slice its really delightful.

I bought some for my dad who had tried something similar in Japan, and he claim that this is exactly the same and it is really good. High praise from someone who have a picky taste buds!

The Macha Marble Chiffon Cake was just average. It was soft and fluffy but too dry. The macha flavour could have been stronger.

The Rose Chiffon Cake fared better. It was soft, fluffy and had a stronger rose fragrant.

The coffee was a huge disappointment. We took just two sips and left it untouched.

That's all for the Liang Court Wednesdays' Food Tasting Trails. I wonder if they will hold this again next year. It's so value for money!

A pity we only had room for 1 cake, and it was a hard pick. I asked the restaurant staff for recommendations and she asked that I tried their signature. The cake was light, fluffy and of a right sweetness with fresh fruits.

Even my BF who usually gave answers like "ok lor, can lor..." everytime I asked how is our food, gave it a thumb up.
I will certainly be checking back again, this time with more round to try out their other cakes...

We waited for quite some time for our food to arrive, probably 20 minutes. My friend's order was Doria which it was indicated on the menu that it will take 15 minutes to prepare. On the other hand, my Black Pig Bolognese Fettucine did not have a minimum preparation time indicated on the menu. However, at the end, my friend's Doria came first before my Black Pig Bolognese Fettucine.

After a not-so-satisfying main course, we were looking forward to the desserts hoping they would help to end the dinner with a wow. We had the Pont Neuf ($5.20, below) which was a cream puff crispy on the outside but creamy and soft on the inside. Yumms! 4/5

Most people come for the cakes, here you can see the mind-boggling array of cakes and pastries, every piece made with love (check out those layers!!!) The popular cakes include the Strawberry Shortcake, the green tea cakes and their cream puffs as well. Incidentally, it should come as no surprise that their cream is one of their selling points!

They also offer a dining section for those of you who wish to opt for the full works -cakes, tea and a chill time. I believe that they also serve food, but why go for the food when you can stuff yourself with these cakes!!

The Strawberry Shortcake is my all time favourite -this is one of my favourite cakes in Singapore. The chiffon is light and fluffy, with the sweetened cream equally light and delicious. One can literally eat the cream from a bowl with just a spoon and a grin plastered to their face. It is THAT GOOD. I'm terribly picky with cream cakes, but this cake impressed me. The cream was neither oily not buttery, it had a lovely aroma and flavour that made you crave it instead. It was also far from cloying and the combination of strawberry & cream is unrivaled.

At $7 it would seem pricey, but given that I would never be able to recreate this in my own kitchen and I enjoyed every single spoonful... I would pay 7 good dollars to eat this over and over.

The (apple) Mille Feuille is also one of my favourites here. The pastry is light, flaky and had a nice aroma of freshly baked pastry. It isn't too dry either, or that is compensated for with the cream (divine, as usual) and the bits of apple. What I liked about the apple was that it's crisp, chunky and adds a delicate sweetness to the whole creation. be warned though, the mille feuille collapses easily because of the flakiness of the layers.... Eating this will prove to be a messy (but extremely worth it) affair!

The Matcha Marble would be the most value for money at $4 a slice. Its a marbled swirl of green tea and chiffon cake, and it's slightly sweeter than the Chocolate Marble. The green tea taste is distinct, but not overpowering in an unpleasant way. It doesnt have the acidic tea taste nor does it have the artificial powdery green tea flavour. It's a subtle balance complemented by a thin layer of cream on the top. Delicious!

*Pardon the wrapping!!

Though not a fan of chocolate chiffon (I like chocolate cakes dense and decadent, chiffon seems to suggest the opposite!), this cake worked well. It wasn't too sweet like most chocolate cakes and even with the cream, the whole feel I got from this cake was generally that it was super light for a chocolate cake!

I would recommend the Strawberry Shortcake, the Mille Feuille and any green tea cake (be it the Green Tea Chiffon or the Matcha Marble). These really proved to be outstanding. If you find yourself hooked on the cream like me, you'd want to consider the cream puff... A true heaven! Be prepared to pay though for these creations, but I assure you it will be worth every cent.

Abundance of filling.

The custard was so smooth and silky! It tasted like vanilla custard yet it has this amazing milkiness to it. It's not heavy at all, surprisingly it's very light. The pasty is very soft, yet there's a mysterious crisp to it. When you bite into it, it collapses in your mouth. And you can never stop at only one piece.

If you want to buy these puffs, do go there early. Sometimes it runs out as early as afternoon, and I had to walk away disappointed like a wilted flower.

I had Beard Papa in mind and I must say the cream in this little piece of delight was much creamier and rich than the one by Beard Papa! The outer layer was slightly different though.. Beard Papa's puff were more towards the custard puff choux pastry type while the one by Dulcet is a thicker more crusty texture. I would say to each his own but i prefer the chewy texture of choux pastry. Coffee was good but forgettable. I loved the environment and still, stands by Tampopo!

Their signature Cream Puff used to be sold at specific timings where they will churn out limited amount. At that time, though it is harder to get and one might risk being disappointed despite going all the way there just to taste this delicacy, it tasted better as those puff are made fresh from the oven. Now, though it is still delicious, their way of making a big quantity and and keeping them in the fridge so that it will be available to more customer causes their Cream Puff to lose a little of the fragrant, crispy texture that the top used to have. Nevertheless, i still love their puffs as the custard inside is smooth and full of real vanilla aroma.
The Tea Time Cake is basically a very light sponge cake with cream piped in the middle. They use buttercream which is very smooth, but i would prefer their fresh cream or custard filling.

Recommended for people who Japanese cakes and pastries!

From the same management of Tampopo and Tampopo Deli is relatively new café Dulcet & Studio. I love their cakes and my all-time favourite is the Fruit Scoop Cake. However, when I recently tried it again, to my shock and disappointment, the cream was not as rich and sweet. Plus there was very much less of it and seemed to have more cake sponge instead! The best part of the cake IS the RICH (yet light) and SWEET cream in its abundance! Have they tweaked their recipe? Please no!
