My mum wanted to buy some dumplings from Eastern Rice so I took the chance to check out the offerings on their menu. They have quite a variety of rice dumplings here like the Nonya Rice Dumpling ($2.50), Hokkien Rice Dumpling ($2.50), Cantonese Style with Egg Yolk Dumpling ($3.20), Black Eye Beans Dumpling ($2.30) and even a Black Pepper Chicken Rice Dumpling ($2.70). There are also mini versions of the Nonya and Hokkien Rice Dumplings ($1.40 each). I was surprised to see that they also have other local snacks like Tutu Kueh ($2.50), Shui Kueh ($2.00), Yam Cake ($1.80), Zhu Chang Fen ($1.80) and Muah Chee ($2.00)!Muah Chee ($2.00)Being a fan of muah chee, I got this to try.The muah chee was quite chewy and was sweet enough for me. But at $2.00, I thought that the portion given was quite little compared to the ones you can get at Pasar Malam. There was also too little of the peanut coating and it could certainly do with more of it for added crunchiness. Nonya Rice Dumplings ($2.50) and Mini Nonya Rice DumplingsMade from white glutinous rice with a filling of pork cubes fried with coriander powder, this gave off a nice aroma when we opened it. The glutinous rice was appropriately sticky although it was a little too oily for me, but my mum loved it. Their strength certainly lies in the dumplings, although prices for some of the items like the muah chee can be a little pricey for its portion size. Service though, was quite decent. continue reading
