As for the students, you might want to consider their set lunch. You can customized your kind of baked rice. 5 Kinds of Base X 8 types of sauce X 12 Main Ingredients = 480 of variations!!!
I chosed the baked rice with cream sauce and seafood. The seafood was neither overcooekd nor had a bad fishy smell.

My personal favorite! The medium raw pan seared steak was so well seasoned and juciy. Stacking them up gave a great visual impact. Personally, I like my steak seasoned with S&P. But if you like, you could try their BBQ sauce with chopped Garlic and Chili. I loved their dark soy sauce fried rice. It gave me a "grandma" feeling. Every grain was covered with the dark soy sauce and fragranced with fried garlic. Simply the Best!

1) Pasta in Spicy Tom Yam Broth - my fav dish of the meal!!! I created this meal with fusilli and salmon. This dish surpassed my expectations! My salmon chunks were seared and there was a generous number of chunks in it!!! The broth is also very tangy and enough spice to be called Tom yum. Love love love it!

2) Chicken Soup of the Day & Garlic Bread - the soup is honestly not bad, can see the chicken chunks but likely to be canned soup with add-on goodness. The garlic bread was also nice and I love the retro enamel plate it's served in. heh!

3) Beef Bolognese - 1st that that struck me was how it had a generous  amount of beef sauce over the pasta. The sauce is a tad too sweet for my personal liking but its nice enough, nicer than some other places.

4) Kid's Meal Chicken Burger - the chicken patty is not some frozen minced junk but a lovely chicken fillet that's pan-fried nicely. Serving enough for a small adult eater or ladies wanting to watch their diet.

5) Cheese Platter - fried finger food with pot of soft cheese fondue to dip in! Wonderful indulgence! Highly recommend this!!

For a non-premium restaurant, it's pretty good and prices are also very decent. Plus I salute Chef Ben for his cause, how not to come!?!?

I had the black beauty for dessert and I really enjoy it alot. One of my recommended - 'must visit' restaurants!

PS: try to go during the early lunch timings for weekdays if you wanna avoid the long queue.

Wrong order was served, I was quite unhappy at the moment. The staff apologized, it was not a big issue in fact yet I don’t like Mushroom. Put them aside, I pretended it had no Mushroom inside, actually it tasted not bad. Acceptable Mushroom-based gravy, as long as I didn’t touch Mushroom will do. I guessed Mushroom lover will like it very much. Not expensive, it was $10.80.

It was my first time dining at 18 chef and i find it really very affordable. I had the student meal which cost only $7.90 with a main and a drink (not in photo) i Ordered black pepper spaghetti and there are scrambled eggs, mushroom and hotdog. I specially love the black pepper sauce, it is very rich and flavorful. The scrambled egg was quite average, expected it to be more creamy. Most of the crowd is quite young - possibly mostly students due to the very value-for-money student promotion. I really like this place because it has a casual and comfortable setting. However, the noise level of the restaurant is quite high and you have to shout to get yourself heard. Not the most conducive for serious conversations or long heart-to-heart talks.

Decide what you want to eat and order at the counter - no service charge here!

One of the more eye-catching selections is the Heart Attack Fried Rice ($15.80 for one person serving, $28.80 for two persons serving). The picture below depicts the serving for two persons.

It was overall an okay dish for me. The garlic fried rice was rather tasty and savoury but the beef slices were a little too tough, tasteless and very oily. The oil was literally dripping onto the chopping board... well which reminds me that the presentation of the dish was quite interesting - a redeeming factor.

On a separate occasion, I returned for a fourth visit to try the student promotion at $6.40 which included a Tomoto-based pasta with mushroom and their Iced Lemon Tea. Their pasta was very surprisingly much better than it looks! The sauce looks a little diluted here, but it was so flavourful and rich. The mushrooms were also springy and a perfect touch to the pasta. The pasta itself was cooked al dente and there was nothing at all to pick on for this dish. I enjoyed it a lot and the price was equally attractive...

One thing that I remembered from my first visit in 2008 was their Iced Lemon Tea which maintained its standards ever since. It somehow is much more fragrant than average and very refreshing.

Definitely coming back for seconds with suitable company.

Looking for a meal under $10, that comes with a main, drink & dessert? Eighteen Chefs is definitely the place that fulfilled those criteria. Here, you get to customise your kind of pasta, sauce and ingredient. I had a black pepper sausage pasta and the serving was generous, but the taste was average. However, the lemon tea was definitely very refreshing, wouldn't mind having a 2nd cup. Overall, its worth giving them a try.

Pretty self-service type of ordering concept.

It seems their homemade ice lemon tea is a hit there, as almost every table has that drink!

Pasta added with spicy garlic sauce, mushrooms and prawns ($12.30). Prawns are crunchy, and sauce is creamy too. Pasta a little hard yet with a little bounce too. It is spicier than it seems to be, and upon closer look, you will spot cut-chili padi...

Cheese baked rice with creamy mango sauce, chicken sausage and minced beef ($11.30). I kind of regretted choosing the creamy mango sauce, as it doesn't mixed well with the baked rice. I should have gone for something spicer instead of sweet sauce. Nevertheless, It's still delicious

Generally, food is not bad, and service is commendable too
I just love to customize my food..

Having tried both the baked rice and pasta before, I would say, go for the pasta if you like your food to be wetter, baked rice if you like your food to be drier. Tangy tomato is not bad! But abit sour-ish to my taste, but still good when taken in small amounts. There’s only 4 chicken sausage but the sauce was enough to make me eat the spaghetti on its own (with the sauce)! Complimentary water at the side, but the ice tea is really enough, it’s a huge cup! Ice cream was just the normal one scoop of chocolate ice cream. Don’t expect yourself to be extremely full from the meal if you’ve a larger appetite, it’s only $6.40! Our food came pretty fast after ordering, in fact less than 5 mins from ordering. Ice cream was served after our meal.

Eighteen Chefs was founded by Chef Benny Se Teo in 2007. It is a social enterprise which employs and trains delinquents and drug offenders, because Chef Benny himself was a former drug addict. He hopes to inspire youths-at-risk to find alternative and positive ways of integrating into society.

Did you know? He was the FIRST Singaporean to be trained at Jamie Oliver's restaurant, Fifteen. Now, that's something huge and I am tremendously jealous!

Garlic Bread

Literally. Not a fan of garlic, so I gave that a skip and had the bread only. What caught my eye in the first place was actually the plate. It definitely brought back some memories as my grandparents used to have them!

This dish was pretty unique because it wasn't your usual type of Garlic Bread where you could spread the paste. The crunchy crisp taste was evident that this was served fresh out of the oven!

64 Degrees Egg

You're supposed to eat this by slurping it using a straw. I wasn't aware of that, so I just swallowed the entire egg =.= Even so, this egg is cooked at specifically 64 degrees, thus the name. It had a runny texture similar to hard boiled egg, but was slightly softer in terms of texture.

Heart Attack Fried Rice

I strongly recommend this! This one we had was the 400g of New York steak, meant for 2 person. There's also a 200g portion for 1! This dish is one of Eighteen Chef's signature dishes, dedicated to Chef Benny's late mum. No wonder these was a homely feel to it. I loved the meat, it was done just right for my taste. Also, the juice of the beef and black sauce is soaked into the rice, making it extra fragrant and irresistible!

Delicious homemade brownie with 2 scoops of ice cream is one you should look out for when your sweet tooth is craving for a bite! The brownie was warm and moist. Drizzled with chocolate sauce, it was a good combination with the ice cream.

Raspberries and Vanilla Ice Cream

I didn't taste much of this, but just a spoonful of it made one thing for sure - I LOVED the raspberry sauce that goes well with the vanilla ice cream! This dessert was a good mix of something sweet, sour and plain. The waffle was soft yet still holds the crunchiness to it.

Just Chocolate in a Jar

This dessert was definitely a head-turner. It was colourful, and it comes in a cute jar. Definitely screams unique! Fans of chocolates would love this. Even though I am one, but I found the chocolatey taste too overpowering and sweet. It's worth a try though!

Calling all students! At Eighteen Chefs, there's a $6.40 Student Privilege that anyone can afford! Choose between Pasta or Cheese Baked Rice and you'll get Lemon Tea + Ice Cream!

Chef Benny is the Director of Eighteen Chefs if you don't already know. He is also the founder to be more precise. Chef Benny may look a little stern but when you have the chance to speak to him, he is a really fun and jovial person. I did and had a great time chatting with Chef Benny.

First up, we began with a starter, the French Loaf With Roasted Garlic Confit ($4.80), the french loaf was well toasted which left me vivid impression that I could hear the chuckle of the crispness when I bite onto it. It was served with Roasted Garlic Confit to set a deeper impression. The combination was nevertheless Perfect.

Then, we have the dish which is on the top of the board in the restaurant. The Heart Attack Fried Rice (for 2) at only $28.80. 400 grams of New York strip served with a butter garlic fried rice could make your heart jumps. That is also the reason why it is named 'Heart Attack Fried Rice'. The beef was chilled not frozen, cooked in medium heat served hot makes it all unforgettable. It was really juicy and scrumptious.

Amongst all the dessert I tried, Black Beauty was the best. The brownie was served warm and which tasted the best when served. Smooth texture which makes it irresistible. Applaud for the amazing wide range of desserts available at Eighteen Chefs! (:

Overall, Eighteen Chefs is situated in the central now which makes it even convenient for anybody to meet up now. The price ranges from $6.40 (student meal) to $30 for a main which can keep you satisfied and full for a meal. It is definitely the best place for gathering yet. Good food for good people, you tried it yet? Do remember to call to make a reservation to avoid disappointments! Oh, the heart attack fried rice is a must to order. ;)

The student set is supposed to come with ice cream, but since i already ordered the waffle, I gave up the ice cream instead. The raspberry is very sour! But it is well compensated by the jam as well as the ice cream. I find the waffle too dense for my liking.

My friend got cheese baked rice with scrambled eggs. surprisingly, it tasted good! the portions were quite small though but at such a cheap price of $6.90 (includes drink and a scoop of ice-cream), I can't complain. The ice-cream with waffles on the other hand were a disappointment. the ice-cream tasted cheap and melted way too fast. The ice-cream with waffles on the other hand were a disappointment. the ice-cream tasted cheap and melted way too fast. The raspberry sauce (too much) was too overwhelming. The waffles were still alright.

I'll still go back again for their set meals!
