Tonight I am invited to one of FFT Social Dinning Experiences which is about We Are The Stories We Tell Ourselves. There are 3 tables of people who come from different walks of life. The menu is set according to answers which most has answered. While waiting for others to arrive, we are served iced lemon tea which is not too sweet.Soup "If your life in Singapore was a colour, what would it be and why?" Yellow/ Hope roasted pumpkin, pumpkin seeds, fried shallots, red chilliThe soup is quite thick and the sliced chilli gives an extra texture to the soup.Starter"What always makes a place feel more like home to you?"Diversity Embracedsalted egg curry leaf prawn, beef rendang, grilled tandoori spiced chicken with steamed mantou The simple mantou is quite soft and fluffy. Stuffed with the heavily flavoured meats, it balanced out the taste. Main"Sum up Singapore's future in just one word."ChallengingThe classic 2 veg + 1 meat economic rice re-imagined For the main course, it is served in a box as what is usually packed for takeaway at a food stall. Quite creative idea.Garlic butter risotto, sautéed spring vegetables, chai spiced brulee salmon, sous vide egg, artisanal soy sauce It is quite a surprise to find this in the takeaway box. The risotto is well cooked and enhanced with mashed egg yolk on top. The salmon has an interesting salty crust.I finished the meal with a cup of Latte andbanana coconut tartlet for dessert. We are treated to a performance by singer song-writer Crystal Goh. She also shared her life story with us, the ups and downs. With the decks of cards on the table, we share our stories to other diners to show how one feels about Singapore.Overall it is quite an interesting dining experience. This place is quite an hidden gem. continue reading

Fast Food For Thought is a minimalist-styled cafe with quite an open concept. Upon entering, you will feel really relaxed! I took a liking to the ambience almost immediately. It is located beside the Singapore National Museum, and after walking around the museum, my friend and I decided to settle down here for a little sojourn.I ordered the Two Pancakes with Shredded Coconut, Gula Merah Coconut & Mee Chiang Kueh Butter - $12. It was served with coconut vanilla cream + spiced gula melaka syrup. I found it really too big for 1 person to eat, but perfect for two people to share The flavours were authentic: the shredded coconut & gula merah coconut combination is very 'Asian', but at the same time it somehow really complements the angmohness of the pancake! The gula melaka syrup is too sweet but that's probably what it is, so do not pour over it immediately. The whole cafe is a quiet place to chat for the price. The servers are young, polite & attentive, making the dining experience really pleasant. There are many people in the evening, with queues after 7, so it's better to reserve if you're heading there in the evening. continue reading
