I don’t understand why the menu is so dirty! I know there’s no service charge and we must walk to the counter to order but I thought it would be nicer if I were served with a cleaner menu.

My mixed berries pancakes, $10. So so.. but I like the berries though I found the pancakes a bit too soaked and wet to eat.

Pulled pork, $13 after adding on to a snapple drink and fries. A lot of pork but a bit “siap” after eating too much. Very tiring to chew but the burger and fat fries were good!

Pork ribs, $20. I tried a bit and it had this pork smell and was also a bit “siap”.

Fish, $20. The sauce was very familiar but I just couldn’t recall the name of that kind of taste. Kinda vegetable/herbal feel if I didn’t remember wrongly. The mashed potato was way too milky. I deemed it as a no-no.

Had vouchers for Food for Thought Cafe last time and tried out the outlet at Queen Street. This time, over at Botanic Garden, a different setting, different menu, a total different experience. Excited. Hot chocolate for myself. It's a large cup top with marshmellow. Super sweet, I like though drink it once in a while. Slow roasted pulled pork with fries and rootbeer. Straight cut fries is very filling. The pork is well marinated with special sauce. Garlic prawn and chargrilled brocolli linguine

Amidst the lush greeneries of Botanic Gardens lies Food for Thought (FFT), a brunch-dinner place big enough to sit at least two-hundred hungry diners. As most of you all might know, the FFT outlet at North-Bridge has closed down and currently, the other outlet is at Queen Street's 8QSAM. Different from the latter, Botanic Garden's is mostly self-serviced - you order directly from the cashier and the service staff delivers to you. Oh, and you get the water yourself from the water-station as well.

Helmed by Singapore born and bred executive chef David Heng, hecontinually aspires to serve every individual guest with sincerity, and share his appreciation for the blessing of good food for a good cause. I like it how FFT has meaningful missions such as making poverty history, giving clean water and inspiring kind acts. No matter to what extent, knowing and most importantly, practicing what you preached by giving back to the society, especially the lesser privileged is what makes me impressed.

Having your favourite dose of caffeine, be it a frothy Cuppucinno (S$4.50) served with lemon biscuit or a calming tea of Chamomile (S$3.50) would be lovely before the mains, although to be honest, the drinks didn't pack much of an oomph.

Classic Works, which comes in different sets - Basic (S$8), House (S$14) and Full (S$20) is one of their more popular dish. Moreover, it comes with customizable individual sides, such as everyone's favourite smoked bacon and scrambled eggs, hash brown, chicken sausage and ciabatta. The basic set plus garlic mushrooms (S$12.50) was fairly satisfying, but nothing to rave about. But what could you expect for the price? For one, the scrambled eggs were done up nicely with the consistency like MacDonald's, while the smoked bacon was a tad too greasy.

If you prefer something lighter, why not have the delightful Smoked Salmon & Broccoli Plate (S$18) - a salad of of generous amount of flaked hot smoked salmon, roasted beetroot, chargrilled broccoli and aioli? One of the best salad dish I had so far I would say. Love the salmon by the way.

Other food items include pancakes, burgers, pasta and fillets, as well as desserts, featuring their signature Semifreddo Parfaits and cakes. All in all, FFT makes an ideal place for a short escape from the bustling urban lifestyle, have a lazy weekend brunch and perhaps a nice stroll in the beautiful gardens.

Onto the food reviews:
1. Dinner - Pesto Chicken Linguine
I quite liked the combination of pesto and linguine. However, it was a little salty for my taste!

2. Red Velvet Cake
Its a passable rendition of the cake, however FFT's version was not as moist as I hoped it could be.

3. Brunch - Pancakes served with Gula Melaka
This is perhaps the best I have tasted in FFT. Their pancakes are flat and thin - very unlike the American style pancakes. However, we ordered the chocolate pancake, they served with generous amounts of chocolate chips and sauce. When coupled with the gula melaka syrup, the pancake was heavenly!
Recommended dish!

Place was huge and airy, and you got to pay at the counter before getting your food. They seem to cater for particularly late risers-had all day breakfast on the menu and ordered a basic set of thick butter toast, scrambled eggs and crisp bacon at 3pm no less. Writing this makes me hungry at this hour, but pity all day breakfast doesn’t factor in the distance. Now interestingly,Botanic Gardens open all the way till 12MN,which is pretty much non-standard visiting hours.

Apart from the breakfast set,my friend ordered a trio of sliders-which is just a posh-sounding name for mini burgers. I believe there were pulled pork, crispy chicken fillet and a cheeseburger version, all too generously stuffed with vegetables. The sauces were pretty delicious, one of them slightly reminiscent of a tart thousand island(but no one could beat Hard Rock Cafe’s Blue Cheese sauce) but the fries weren’t too memorable.

Desserts seem to be on the expensive side- $7 for a slice of red velvet cake that look like they are out of Nyan Cat world but supposedly tasty according to past reviews. The raspberry buttered scones look particularly delicious, but I decided on getting a dark chocolate cake instead that was studded with dried raspberry. At $3, that was surprisingly cheap.I commented that it looked like a pile of shit, but that was pretty tasty shit, moist and crumbly at the edges. they had this donation box at the top of the water dispenser to help African kids, which was stuffed with two dollar notes. A commendable effort-maybe thats why they are called ‘Food for Thought’, because the other interpretation will be thinking about food, and I hardly ever do.No service charge, and prices on the menu were already inclusive of GST. Bill came up to be $31 for 2 persons, pretty reasonable prices.

It was our food hunting night after a whole day work. We decided to try Food for Thought which located at Botanical Garden. It is one of the best places to enjoy dinning as you can take a long stroll through the park after dinner.

This cafeteria is located at the basement right next to the car park which is not easily being seen. We had difficulties finding the place once we reach as there is no signage telling us where the location is. Once we found the place, we were quite surprise and delighted to explore the spacious cafeteria. It is an ideal place for family bonding time and group gathering.

There is a self-service kiosk where you have to place order for the food, pay directly at the counter and wait for your food to be served.

We ordered Aglio Olio @S$8.00 which is the plain linguine with garlic, olive oil and chili peppers. The taste is a bit bland for me but the serving portion is just nice.

We also ordered Chinese Chicken Caesar @S$10.00 which consists of soft-boiled eggs, roasted red capsicums. We enjoyed the salad as you can taste the freshness of the lettuce and also the tender chicken meat texture.

Next we have Slow Roasted BBQ Baby Pork Ribs @S$20.00. The portion was quite generous and we shared among 2 of us. The pork ribs are well-roasted and the meat is not too hard to chew. The BBQ sauce goes well with the roasted pork ribs.

As for the dessert, we ordered red velvet cake. This old fashioned style of red velvet cake was refine and sensational. The taste wasn’t too sweet at all.

Dinner was pleasant with the cosy ambience and environment. We loved the desserts displayed counter. It was nicely filled up with varieties choices of desserts for customers’ to choose.

One good thing dinning here is that you get to enjoy bonding session after dinner and nobody will come clearing your tables and hinting you to leave. The café is spacious enough to accommodate a certain amount of people. Be it in indoor or outdoor environment.

Mee rebus

The noodles had a good bite.

The gravy was substantial and the ingredients evident.

The fibres of galangal, fragrance of peanut and thick taste of mashed sweet and regular potatoes.

I would've liked it more savoury than sweet though.

And you wouldn't like this if you were a carnivore.

No meat in sight!

Ooh.

Rich.

Curried.

Chicken laksa.

Slippery fat laksa noodles in a thick coconut spicy gravy.

Too heavy for breakfast!

Garlic mushrooms.

A substantial side portion at just $3.

A side option to be added on to my Basic works at $7.

That's a $10 breakfast plate.

That's pretty good value for the Tanglin area if you're asking me.

I would've liked my bacon crisped.

These were barely browned at the edges.

Hmm.

Aside from that,

the thick toast with butter was redolent with the fragrance of butter, soft and chewy all at the same time.

They have small dollops of kaya and peanut butter at the counter tops if you wanted some bread spread.

The scrambled eggs were done just right.

Although that was a 45 minute queue plus wait on a busy Hari Raya Haji Friday morning,

I'm pleased with my introduction of a new dining option to my parents.

Food was good and the portion size was more than adequate for one person. Should try the Red velvet cake as it goes really well with the icing at the top. Also, waiting time for the food was not too bad. The restaurant has a nice environment and is a good place to chill and relax with friends or family. This place is definitely a plus point for families with children as there is a children's play area in the restaurant which can keep the children entertained. #NTUDAC

This place was quite crowded with no available seats when my partner and I arrived. We took about 10 minutes to find a seat. We arrived at lunch time and it was on the New Year's eve. That could be the reason. We ordered Basil Almond Chicken Linguine, Grilled Basil Pesto Chicken Burger, Hazelnut and Chocolate Cake, Old Southern Red Velvet Cake. These dishes and desserts are simply delicious. Words can't really describe how nice the tastes were. You got to give it a try.

Brunch came in the forms of Basic Works ($7.00), House Works ($12.00) and Full Works ($18.00) which are just increment of more food if you really want to know. Personally, I like to customise my brunch and I am just glad Food For Thought allows that. Two thick slabs of toast, nicely sauteed garlic mushroom, a good dose of good old scrambled eggs and that’s how ZX loves her brunch.

Ever since my last visit to Burger Shack, I’ve been in love with pulled pork burgers! I have to say the Slow Roasted Pulled Pork Burger ($8.00) was tender and coupled with that smoky homemade BBQ sauce and violia! You have one awesome burger to munch already!

Another must-try is their Creamy Mushroom Soup ($6.00). For ZX, it’s a must have every time she drops by. Their scones on the other hand may looked unpalatable compared to hotel standards and it looked even harder to take a nice shot of it but trust me, it’s one of THE BEST SCONES I had in years! It was even made perfect pairing with their fresh light cream. Gosh, I just wished I had extra cash to spare for more!

Much like you see in the show, Ratatouille ($4.00) is a French way of stewing vegetables. Served piping hot and in a stew of tomato sauce, this is as sweet as it gets! Although I would prefer my veggies sliced and arranged neaty just like how it was done in the movie.

Looking for a nice place to have a wonderful weekend brunch? Why not consider heading down to Food For Thought at Botanic Gardens instead and end off your lovely brunch affair with a sun bathing stroll by the park.

Topped with a generous amount of thick-cut fries, this pulled pork burger is gigantic in portion and can be shared among two people. Because of the air-con, the meal gets cold quite quickly and it's best eaten hot, so I didn't really get to talk to my friend much over meal, got to eat really fast. The pork patty wasn't very special, and the bread used was quite average. Not really food that give you thoughts.. quite a forgettable experience

My friends and I decided to start our Sunday with brunch at Food For Thought before heading out for a relaxing afternoon stroll at the Singapore Botanical Gardens. Sounds like a really idyllic plan if the weather works out.

To manage everyone's expectations, we were all duly notified by our 'organiser' that the place looked more like a canteen than a cafe.

It took us a while to get seats in the air-conditioned interior and to be honest, it was not the most conducive environment for conversations.

If only parents can keep their kids entertained throughout their stay at the playground. Not the place to be for breakfast if you cannot tolerate kids running about and making a din.

But one major plus point is that they are one of those rare places in Singapore that serves All Day Breakfast (8am - 5pm). Plus early raisers (8am to 10am) get to enjoy a cup of hot local black coffee or tea at $1 with any of their Local Breakfast!

Do not expect to be serviced at your table.

You have to order your food, pay directly at the counter and wait patiently for it to be served. Good news is the menu prices at Singapore Botanical Gardens are slightly cheaper as compared to their other outlet at Queen Street and in addition to that, there was no service charge.

Food assembling of our orders were really systematic.

That's my Brunch Set ($8) with choice of 3 sides - Garlic Mushrooms, Pomme Noisette (Hash Brown) and Scrambled Eggs With Cream! Presentation can't get any simpler.

Nothing amazing about the scrambled eggs and hash browns but the mushrooms saved the day!

Slightly healthier version of Brunch Set with Roasted Tomato Salad, 2 Eggs Sunny Side Up and Chunky Chicken Sausage.

If brunch set was not enough to fill you up completely, you can consider ordering their nicely browned thick Toast ($3) served with the following choice of spreads: Butter / Dragon Fruit Jam / Marmalade / Kaya / Peanut Butter.

Duo of Pancakes ($12) accompanied by fresh cream, gula melaka syrup and served with additional toppings of dark chocolate and raspberry tasted so much better than MacDonald's hotcakes. But you got to be prepared to wait around 10 to 15 minutes for them.

If you are not that into breakfast, you can opt for their Grilled Burgers ($8 - $12). Accompanying fries & drinks are served with a minimal additional charge of $4. Or their numerous pasta options.

Happy faces before we head out to walk our guilt away.

The scenery at Botanical Garden was gorgeous but the stroll did not prove to be such a great idea. The hot afternoon sun in Singapore can really drive one bonkers.

We sat at the table and the kids began to indulge in their scones dipping them in the cream all licking it off their fingers while hubby and I shared the Mocha. Hubby and I took a little taste of the yummy scone and we liked it a lot so we ordered and another one. The scone was nice and fresh and crispy and it was loaded with strawberries and you could feel them in your mouth. The Mocha was delicious as well as served nice and hot.

Went for an afternoon tea here and the place is nice!! The cafe has a aircon section and a lovely outdoor playground just outside. It's a great arrangement as the full glass windows allow parents (me!) to watch the kids run amok at the outdoor playground - in comfort!!! As I said, it's only tea and I tried the ham & cheese quiche. But the quiche is good!! Would try the other yummies next time.
