For more reviews, visit www.Umakemehungr.comSince my schooling days, I have known Gelare for its Tuesday half price waffles and it was always full of patrons during then. However, I did not have the luxury to try their ice cream and waffle as it would cost me a bomb during my school days. After the renovation at Suntec City, Gelare has occupied a wide area along the fountain of wealth.Gelare Ice Cream is unique on its own as it is made with no air, while other ice creams would contain as much as 50% air. Being there for waffles and ice creams, my eyes were fixed on the brown column where Waffles treats are. We had the Classic Waffle with 3 scoops of ice creams of our choice. There is a choice of maple syrup or chocolate sauce and fresh cream over the waffle. We had chocolate mint, raspberry and chocolate ice cream on our waffle.Instead of the usual round scoop of ice cream, what we had was somehow like a corn size ice cream. Every waffle is freshly baked to order which requires some waiting time and can be ordered in half or its regular size. Being a waffle lover, I expect it not only to taste good but to smell good too. Just too bad that, its texture and taste did not fall within my expectation.Ice cream was creamy and filling but was kind of on the sweet side which did not really fit my style. However, I would say the quality of ice cream is definitely better than the usual ones we had. continue reading

Located in front of Giant, at tower 3/4 with an unblocked view of the fountain of wealth is Geláre Cafe. Unlike other Geláre outlets, this on serves a very wide menu of breakfast itemsThey carry a wide range of ice cream flavours, considering that they've opened for business since 1986, they have invested alot of effort into getting the ice cream flavours right! Geláre has expanded to now sell premium coffee as well as their infamous tuesday half-price off waffles ($4++ after the discount) Here's an interesting fact about GeláreGeláre Ice Cream is made with no air, while other ice creams contain as much as 50% air. During the early periods of commercial ice cream production, people found that they could double their ice cream yield by fluffing the product with air. The ice cream looked the same to the unwary customer but the fact could easily contain as much air as ice cream.1. Soursop ice creamThe soursop ice cream is my favourite, as it contains real soursop fruit and seeds in the mix! If you close your eyes, you can almost imagine the real fruit in front of you. It smells and tastes like the real thing!2. Yuzu ice creamI love the yuzu fruit but this tasted a tad off. It was too sour and had a strange bitter after taste. I couldn't even finish half this cup. It was quite a disappointment, as I had high hopes for this flavour. Not many ice cream parlours offer this flavour, as I can guess that it takes quite a bit of effort to get it right.3. Lychee ice creamThe lychee ice cream was slightly more icy that then other two and had a sweet tinge of lychee sweetness in every mouthful. Not a bad ice cream flavour, but I wouldn't travel all the way just for this. continue reading
