The dish is one of the new dishes in the new menu. The meat is juicy and goes well with the wasabi like sauce. However the garlic slices are not crispy and texture too chewy.

Ton Kara ($2.50)
Available in 3 types : pork, chicken and chicken wing. Battered with Bairin's way of battering, then cooked with CONFIT cooking method which involves cooking the meat in its own fat.
The pork version is too fatty with the thick layers of fat, while the chicken version is too salty. The chicken wing fares slightly better.

Overall the food is average with improvements needed. Service is not bad with staffs clearing the tables swiftly.

After finishing shopping at ion orchard, wanting to find a place to rest and dine in . Saw this Japanese restaurant named Ginza Bairin and the display of foods outside the restaurant so decided to go in and try. The serving of the Pork Katsu was huge. I was very full after finishing it up! The pork slices were freshly cooked, thick, tasty and well-fried and the egg. It come with miso soup the soup is tasty and not too salty.

A very stupid idea in my opinion.

In the end I mixed the whole ball of meat into my soup. A decision which I regretted immediately. The Ramen is chewy at just the right texture, however the soup is now so spicy that I could barely continue eating.

I might come back for some of their other items next time, but I will definitely not recommend Spicy Tonkotse Ramen unless you can really take very very high level of heat.

My gfs ordered buta-ten udon, chicken katsu set and pork katsu set and all have add on too like ebi fry, oyster fry and cheese croquette. No complains from them about their food so it should be good! I shall go back to try their curry next time!

Our total spending of the night: $87.10

Went to Ion basement for my late lunch, saw that Ginza Bairin wasn't crowded so sat down and ordered kurobuta curry katsu set; Crispy fried breaded pork cutlet was lightly seasoned and juicy, its freshly cooked as there’s still smoke when I lift up the pork. Japanese curry has always been my favorite kind/type of curry as it’s mild and thick; curry gravy was rich, luscious and delicious, goes really well with the fluffy and soft pearl rice.

Happen to meet the bff at ION, so decided to go for dinner. Unagi Katsu Set - Unagi although deep fried, it is still very soft it almost melts in the mouth; the sauce is slightly salty. The Sesame dressing also makes the pile of plain thinly sliced cabbages sweet.Spicy Ramen - I "tax" a little of the spicy meat & it's very spicy yet nice! The soup before mixing is also sweet. No complains from the bff thou.

Ginza Bairin isn't the most famous place for ramen or even noodles, for that matter. Lunchtime ensures that there is always a queue line for Ginza Bairin. A decent rice set with pork katsu + miso soup can be just a few dollars shy of powerhouse katsu chains like Tonkichi, bringing it to a cool $18-19.

Decided to try the ramen as I did afterall come to ION for ramen but the queues elsewhere were too disgustingly long T-T. The standard ramen is $12.90, and they have other varieties such as kurobuta black pig (? did I spell this correctly, oops) ramen.

The soup stock is rich and salty, with a milky tonkotsu taste with a savouriness akin to sea salt/shoyu. There is an egg in this, with vegetables, charsiew and wood-ear. I found it slightly strange that they used bok choi in the ramen though, didn't seem very Japanese and more Chinese instead! Haha, but no matter. The noodles were springy and delicious, and it went superbly with the other contrasting textures. The egg was a bit soft for me, but the yolk was perfect - a delicious golden, orange tinge. What I found the oddest about this was the the charsiew and the egg was braised in a gravy that tasted so sweet, it tasted like dessert. It tasted like someone had accidentally knocked over a bottle of honey into the gravy. Didn't sit so well with me.

Service is mediocre, the ramen is mediocre (I admit this wouldn't be an accurate representation of Ginza Bairin as ramen isn't their forte at all.), the price is quite expensive (especially for the ambience + food). Not exactly worth it but Ill return to try the katsu sets one day!

Tip: They accept credit cards here, Amex, Master & Visa!

I have ordered kurobuta curry katsu set. Since they are famous for the kurobuta (black pig) both of us had ordered it served in a different style. Deep fried till golden brown with mini bits of bread crumps that are clinged on so tightly to the piece of meat that one will not worry that we will spill all over the table. There were thin layer of fats in between the crispy crust and the meat yet not too oily. Of decent quality and definitely not the best I have tried in Singapore so far.

The curry sauce that comes along is thick and gluey, full of Japanese style curry. This curry smell & taste still lingers around my mouth a few hours after the meal.

Kurobuta set looks different in its presentation and comes with some pickles and kurobuta black sweet sauce which sums up the different between a curry set and this.

The staff are not very pro-active, when they see customers reading their menu, they are still chit chatting.

Ambience
The tables in the shop are placed too closely together, I saw one of the customer got knock against the chair and then the table. 2 Hits in a few seconds.

We are able to see the kitchen through this view in the shop. It's easier for customer to gauge the readiness of their order.

Recommendation / Tips
If you were to ask me, I would prefer Saboten Pork's Cutlet to this as Ginza Bairin's tonkatsu is a bit dryer.

Price
The total amount spent for 2 set meals complete with drinks. Comparing with its competitor, they offered free flow of salad and rice. I would rather pay a little bit more at their competitor's as theirs comes with dessert (matcha ice cream).

Love the curry from Ginza Bairin, they usually served their curry set with some dice sliced red pickles. Eat them with the rice and curry and I'm in heaven!

On top of that I ordered 2 cheese potato croquette. It was a disappointment because of the bread crust. It was too dry and stale even though it was served piping hot. Each croquette cost $3.70. Wouldn't order this again.

The set in total cost $20 plus. A little on the expensive side considering they do not have service charge.

I looked around the restaurant and saw several people ordering the tonkatsu curry rice set which looks really appetizing as well!

Went there during lunch time and there wasn't a lot of people. Spending per person is about $16-21 per set. The ambiance is quite sophisticated for a Q-and-order restaurant I would say. Rice set with egg and eel that my colleague had.Kaarage chicken with curry set. Tonkatsu Ramen. The specialty for this restaurant has gotta be the Japanese curry. For the kaarage set, it accentuates the fried chicken and taste heavenly when mixed with RICE.
