Located at the same row as the famous fish soup bee hoon is this Hainanese curry rice that has been here for quite a while. The queue ona Sunday morning 11am is longer than the tian tian chicken rice stall queue. It's madness, the staff are working as fast as they can but it's quite a small shop so having all 4 of them working like an octopus, is quite hard.We got two packets of curry rice with pork chops and veggies with the second packet having an extra pork chop, total damage was only $6.90. Very reasonable! The minimum cost is $3 per packet. I love the curry sauce, it is not too spicy as I don't normally take spicy and the pork chop is so crispy and yet not oily! The veggies have tang hoon in there and though oily, is very tasty to eat. I come here at least once a month and it is always a worth while to queue! The pork chop is just so yummy! So is their fried shrimp but it's more expensive. Do note however that this queue never ends! So regardless of what time you come, just be prepared to starve and wait in line for at least 20 minutes! continue reading

I am always in a dilemma whenever I am in Tanjong Pagar. There are so choices when it comes to food. This time, I decided to visit the newly renovated Maxwell Food Centre. Even then, there are so many types of food to to eat such as Ah Tai Chicken Rice, Tian Tian Chicken Rice, Zhen Zhen Porridge, Xing Xing Tapioca Kueh, Hum Jin Pang, or Tanglin Crispy Curry Puff. During a weekday lunch, I decided to have Hainanese Curry Rice. Although there are several stalls selling curry rice, I prefer the one from China Street Hainanese Curry Rice. I have posted on this stall before and you can read about it here. I joined the queue which was more than 10 person long. The good thing is that the turnover here is fast as the food are all cooked already. There are the usual choices you get to see in a curry rice stall such as bitter gourd, curry chicken, fried pork chop, cabbage, squid and eggs. I already knew what to order before hand. As you many have noticed, I ordered exactly the same items as what I ordered in the previous post which was 1.5 years back. I really should change and try their other items! Bittergourd, curry chicken wings and fried pork chop (which is a must for any curry rice), along with curry drizzled all over the items and rice. This time, the bittergourd was cooked was still hard, a little more time on the wok would have been ideal. The chicken wing was nicely cooked. The meat in it was soft, firm and tender. The pork chop fared the best. Well marinated meat with thin, crisp fragrant batter, it was fried perfectly. It was delicious! Worth the queue and braving the heat in the food centre. Although the food centre has been renovated, it was still quite warm. If you like Hainainese curry rice, I would also recommend the curry rice at Bugis called Eleven Finger (Eu Kee) Scissors Curry Rice. Read more reviews at http://thehungrybunnie.blogspot.comThis is one of my favourite Hainanese curry rice. It's perpetually crowded so it's best to eat super early to avoid the crowds. Unless you're a fan of the Singapore past-time of waiting in a long queue. The must-trys here are the pork ball braised in gravy, pork chops, curry chicken and braised cabbage. continue reading

The FoodI ordered the famous Hainanese Curry Rice with signature fried pork chop, meat ball and cabbage drenched with lots of curry! The fried pork chop was tasty (well marinated), crispy and thin. As for the meatball, the pork was tender and tasty. Lastly, the braised cabbage was soft and tasty with dried shrimps flavour. The thick and tasty curry was another wow factor which was not too overly spicy. The ServiceSaw 8 people in front of me when I joined the queue but was surprised that the workers are quite efficient as within 8minutes, its my turn to order. The AmbienceAlthough the stall is in a Hawker Center, i find that the place was well-ventilated and not stuffy hence still acceptableThe PriceReasonably priced at $3.90 per plate for decent portion.OverallI will definitely come back again and highly recommended to try this! continue reading

Love their curry rice and I order for my lunch. Whenever I visit this stall, without fail I will order their pork chop which tasted crispy and delicious. This stall variety of dishes are alot then expected, I also order cabbage and fried egg which makes up my meal. Curry were not spicy and not watery (wasnt taste great if the sauce turns out watery). Everything just tasted fabulous which I define its difficult to express out by words untill you had try it yourself. continue reading
