Almost everyone knows Heng Ji Chicken rice, it's been there EVER SINCE i was born (i suppose).Tender chicken, juicy, sweet and fresh... this white meat enables you to almost gobble down one whole plate for yourself.A plate of chicken rice always bonds a family together, it's something every singaporean family would have ate together in common!The rice is quite small in portion, so don't be surprised if most people order two portions/bowls.The sauce is really great, you should ask for more. BEST chicken rice ever !!have been revisiting since im my childhood. i dont usually eat more than a bowl of rice. however for Heng Ji chicken rice, i manage to finish up to 3 bowl of chicken rice . For every visit, my dad would order 1 full chicken for just the 4 of us. i specially like to point out is their sauce. it is quite light,not too salty. it blends well with the sliced cucumber and the chicken. One plate of chicken rice would only be $2.50. That explains why there was such a long queue!The rice here was pre-fried. For the unaccustomed, this would make the rice more fragrant. The chicken meat is smooth, but not tender, and also lacks a solid nice bite. The gravy drizzled over the chicken is also a little MSG-laden and too salty for comfort. The cucumber is also served in very uneven thin slices. On the contrary, I am pretty impressed that they have chosen spring onions over coriander as garnishing, which is equally fragrant but not pungent!The real gem is the special chili sauce here. The dark red sauce seems to be made from dried chili and is sweet instead of the usual garlic-sour chili. I love the chicken rice. continue reading

My hubby and I saw a long queue forming and decided to try this stall's chicken rice as well. We had to wait around 15minutes before it is our turn. We ordered a plate of chicken breast meat and two bowls of rice. The chicken, although it is meat from chicken breast, is not hard and it is actually quite tender. Moreover, the chicken skin is also not too fatty, and I ate the whole thing, skin and meat together which further brings out the softness of the chicken since the skin is jelly like and melts in your mouth. Now I understand why there is a queue because it is too good to resist! continue reading

Heng Ji Chicken Rice for lunch! Ordered the steam chicken rice. Has always prefered the steam chicken to the roasted as it retains more of the sweetness of the meat. The chicken was very good! Soft and tender. The rice was flavourful! Not too oily unlike some others we see. Great lunch! Was so full after that continue reading
