Since the renovation of Chinatown Point (think it 1st changed from a blue to yellow facade, and now "littered" w drape ads ), I've only just stepped in today and how it wondered me with its modern interior (same emotion swept me when Plaza Singapura renovated to its current state) ! Even the escalators leading to the shops from the carpark, has lights that create an aura of elegance that reminded me of that in Orchard Central! Since I was just here for a workday lunch, I quickly narrowed down to Hill Street Coffee Shop as my lunch destination. The instant sight of this eatery feeled me with a sense of warmth with its wooden chairs & marble tables. I'm not that old, but I do like the ambience which simulated days of the past! Now this eatery is located just beside another selling Tow Geh Chicken. Though they did segregate their seating arrangement, I noticed that customers could order from both stalls and sit wherever they liked! Good collaboration in the name of business! The menu items would liken that of Killiney, with food such as Laksa and Nasi Lemak. I ordered the Laksa and it was served in a "clay bowl". I had asked for noodles but was served with thick beehoon instead. It wldn't qualify as the best laksa I've eaten, but the gravy was certainly thick, and I could filter out the shrimp bits in the gravy with my teeth. I suspect it lacked coconut milk, and this in turn affected the aroma of the dish. There was a big spoonful of small "hums". I don't eat them but must give credit for this. Haha! For the sake of the ambience (and the fact that there's A/C! ), I'd give this place another shot, but will try another dish. Next time round, I'd probably order that Tow Geh Chicken too! Haha! Total Cost (colleague's treat! Yay! ): Laksa + Rendang Nasi Lemak + Teh O Kosong + Teh - $15.10 continue reading
