It was time for meeting up with two of my favorite girls - *Janice and *Amelia, and we decided to try out the new HKc (Hong Kong cafe) located at 23 Serangoon Central, #B1-30 / 31 Nex, Singapore 556083 and the number to dial is 6636 8997. We were pretty certain that it was another restaurant prior to that, so well, its fairly new.The Har Gow (SGD$4.30) was served first - prawn dumplings essentially. The prawns were quite fresh and the crystalline skin was rather light, so while we were not wowed, there was nothing to complain about. It was har gow.... simply that.Following that, we had the Fried Shrimp Wanton (SGD$3.80), which was fried shrimp dumplings. The skin was crispy and the inside consisted of sweet shrimp meat, so we were rather pleased with this item as well. Finally, the Combination Platter (SGD18.80) was being served - an assortment of roast pork, roast chicken and roast duck all chopped neatly and nicely decorated for us. The skin of the roast pork was crispy so it lent credence to the roast pork overall. The roast chicken and roast duck were pretty average, probably because we had been expecting better standards from a Hong Kong restaurant / cafe. For more detailed information and photos, please feel free to visit:http://thearcticstar.blogspot.sg/2014/07/dinner-at-hkc-hong-kong-cafe-nex.html continue reading

A Hong Kong Cafe located at #B1 of Nex is not difficult to spot with its long queue and the open concept style of dining. They put on a "wow" attracting poster selling Chicken Hotpot that make us wanting to try and see if there are any difference from the original chicken hotpot (which is at level 2 of Nex). They serve pretty decent priced set meal starting from $33.80 which consist of a chicken hotpot, plate of veges, soup, dim sum. U can also order their signature milk tea @ $3.00 each.Their soup of the day ~ Dong Gua (Winter melon) soup. slightly too bland for me especially i expected a much stronger taste for Cantonese type of soup.Butter lettuce vege with mushrooms - nothing special. it is just poach vege with oyster sauce.dim sum - apparently their dim sum is pretty good. i love the siew mai despite i m not a siew mai lover.their chicken hotpot ~ seriously, i still prefer the original one although this one still taste as good after they added soup into the pot (the original one, soup will taste more bland if u add more soup). this one you probably cannot add anything to cook with it. just pure soup.OverallFood : **Price : **Customer Service : **1/2Will i come again? No. not for the hotpot continue reading

Ice Milk Tea (S3.80), and Ice Lemon Honey ($3.00).Ordered one of their dim sum items, Prawn Dumpling ($3.80).. Nothing special...Single Roast Duck ($8.80). This actually comes with a rice for a single pax, but crew said it's ok if we want to skip the rice, since we are only keen in trying the duck meat only. Anyway, their duck meat is pretty good. Also ordered the Canton Chicken Hotpot Set ($22.80), which can accommodate up to two stomachs Vegetable and meat are not re-fillable, but gravy is exceptional. I really love their initial thick and sweet gravy! It is re-fillable, but they simply pour boiling water, which spoil the sweetness... continue reading

Quite a few of the existing eateries at Nex mall has closed down. One of them is Lai Lai taiwanese cafe. A new HK Cha Chan Teng has taken its place selling HK coffee shop delights. The menu wasn't very extensive and lacks variety. Prices are on the steep side too. Claypot chicken rice 2pax $18.80++The portion for 2pax was quite generous, it is even enough to feed 3 small eaters. The rice is rather fragrant and chicken meat is chunky and moist. Plenty of fresh veggie and mushroom can be found in the rice. Not bad.Prawn dumpling soup $8.80++Prawns were fresh, the soup was nothing to shout about. continue reading
