This is one of Hong Yun's signature dishes.Their White Fried Bee Hoon. At first sight, it looks nothing out of the ordinary! It's just a plate of fried rice vermicelli! That's where the ordinary ends & the extra-ordinary begins!1 bite into this otherwise simple-looking dish reveals an aromatic flavor reminiscent of the days of old & that generous serving of countless shards of fried pork lard crispies (Bak Yew Pok) elevates this innocent-looking plateful into sinful bliss with every bite! continue reading

Usually I come here with friend for their white bee hoon, but this time we saw the butter sotong article on the wall,it look nice so we ordered a plate to try. It was so different from the picture, first few bite it was nice, very crispy but after having more ,we find that it was too oily,as for bee hoon, the portion was suddenly a lot,it was very dry not very nice, and as usual only 1 piece of sotong inside, very stingy. continue reading

A lively lunch which we had never been, although we sat very near to each other in our office yet it was the first time we eat together. Decided to eat Chinese Food, we came to this coffee shop.New version for their Menu, they added some dishes inside. All food items displayed neatly by type and their prices stated clearly, differentiated by size whether Big, Medium and Small.Their signature Meehoon, it was a must-order dish. I opted for it and gave up rice. Not salty, the taste was just nice. Eating along with Chilli Paddy, it went very well with eggs, shrimps and veggies. $8.00, the ladyboss said it was actually for three persons only. The most desirable dish for me, I like the crispy and buttery flakes which were deep-fried with egg yolk. The big prawns were all fresh, but the portion was small. It costed $20.00, not enough for us.Naturally veggie, it was good for health. Unfortunately, the sauce was too soggy. I prefer the gravy slightly diluted. It was $10.00.As known as Water Spinach, it was one of my favourite local foods. Aroma of garlic and dried shrimps were strong, it would be better if added extra spiciness. It costed $7.00 for small version. Quite disappointed for this, I thought it will be black saucy and flavourful. However it was too mushy and what I tasted was only egg. A bit expensive for me, it was $10.00.Last dish for us, we waited so long for it. Sticky gravy coated the meat, it was tender and full of fragrant onion ginger after stir-frying. It priced at $15.00.It was a bit stuffy and hot yet we enjoyed our time to gather there. Thanks Lynn for spending us such splendid lunch. continue reading

Located right after the gantry carpark entrance, Hong Yun has been reputed or their white bee hoon offering. Being a fan of you huak's version, i came by to do a taste comparison hoping that i have a new joint to visit instead of the sembawang area which parking is always an issue. Located under hdb flat, Hong Yun is one of the few stalls within the coffeeshop, so its not the sole business occupying the premises. The Hup Chong ytf is supposedly the other star of this coffeeshop. I ordered the $6 white bee hoon and the kailan with anchovies $7. First impression of the bee hoon its definitely the dry version and not the semi wet type like You Huak's. But the white beehoon taste smooth and easy to the bite. I feel it will be better if its served with a little gravy but again maybe that's exactly how they want to differentiate themselves with the competitor. It also comes with fried pork lard which sembawang's version doesn't. Other ingredients included sotong, chye sim, prawns, eggs and lean meat. The kailan vege did not impress, tasting very average and the accompanied anchovies does not compliment the dish at all. Despite average eats, i must say i like their special chilli sauce, not too spicy and it does goes well with the bee hoon. continue reading

White beehoon tasted average but the ingredients are good, you can see prawn, sotong, pork and lard. My friend said the one at Sembawang tasted better and here is the dry version, there is wet version. The fried brinjal and floss tasted quite good, crispy enough. The kailan tasted average too but different from other, there are fried ikan bilis served aside. continue reading
