How did the crossing bridge noodles come about? It was believed that there was once a scholar who was studying hard for his imperial exam on a small island and his wife would bring him food across the bridge but by the time when she reached there, the soup was already cold and noodles were already soggy. Thereafter, she load the boiling soup in a large earthen pot with a thick layer of oil on top so as to act as an insulation in keeping the broth warm. While noodles and ingredients were kept in separate containers. Thus when she arrived, she will mix the ingredients together with noodles added with warm soup. Likewise, in Honguo, bowl of soup still remains warm even after sometime.

Beside the origins of their signature vermicelli / noodle, if you do notice the walls, you will learn more about the chinese myths, especially on the 18 Oddities in Yunan or sometimes they called it 18 wonders of Yuna.

Shanghai Dumplings did strike on the right notes. Marinated minced meat was fine and wrapped by the skin. It was fragrant and perfect on the go with a dab on the ginger and vinegar. It tasted so good that you wont believe you are having Dumplings as they tasted more like XLB (Xiao Long Bao).

The Black Pepper Beef Fried Noodle was overpowering in taste especially with its black pepper. It was very oily too, perhaps not suitable to the locals here in Singapore. It was such strong that our throats were at its mercy. However, it's featuring the spiciness of what a Sze Chuan dish should be.

In Summary, the food that we had ordered was better than average perhaps only the last dish that did have a taste close to our heart. Service was efficient with servers promptly clearing away used trays and dishes away. Overall Honguo is a good choice if you want to have something less than $10 a dish in a cooling environment.

The staff was patient to teach me how to prepare for this meal such as adding all the ingredients into the hot soup. I enjoyed the meal.

This is my 2nd time dining Back this time to eat the speciality dish (Cross Bridge Rice Vermicelli ) . There are steps to eating this rice vermicelli as they provided you with 15 type of items to add in the soup. The noodles are springy and the broth is soothing. I liked the the pumpkin fries with salted egg yolk ($6.80) a layer of salted egg yolk encasing a sweet pumpkin paste. when we bit into it, the filling was slowly melting in your mouth.

SzeChuan Chicken $7.50
This is another of my favourite as i like the fragrant from the SzeChuan herbs and seasonings used. Initially I was only tasting the crispy and tender chicken chunks. However, the spiciness of the peppercorn and chilli kicked in later which added an interesting finish punch to the food. I would strongly recommend this to anybody who loves spicy food but for those who can’t take spiciness, this might be a bit challenging.

This is the signature dish of the shop ,红锅过桥米线 (Cross Bridge Rice Vermicelli ) .They have 3 variety and I chose the one with the most ingredients. There are steps to eating this rice vermicelli. Beside the fun while eating this dish, I like the fact that the soup remained warm after a very long time. Well, as a food blogger, I like to take pictures of food that was served to me and most of the time, food turns cold after I have finished taking the pictures.Below is the video of how i eat my 过桥米线.

Overall , I think that the food at Hong Guo is good especially if you like you food hot after taking loads of food pics. On top of that, service here was rather attentive and good. Thus I am giving it a 8/10 .Do try it out if you have =)

the pumpkin fries with salted egg yolk ($6.80) were a wonderful blend of crumbly pastry (i would liken it to something similar to the char siew sou pastry), over a layer of salted egg yolk encasing a sweet pumpkin paste. when we bit into it, the filling was piping hot and burnt our lips but we couldn't resist gobbling it down! yeah, it's deep fried, but the fact that it was made of pumpkin made it feel 'healthy'? haha. anyway, it was so light and delicious that we finished it easily!

this restaurant is mainly a yunan chinese restaurant, however, they have dishes from other parts of china as well, such as the sze chuan chicken in a basket ($7.50). it is a crisply fried chicken, covered with a spicy batter, and for added effect, tossed with a generous (read: abundant) amount of chilis. initially, we didn't feel that it was very spicy, but the more we ate it, the more our lips and tongue started to burn haha. what a fiery dish!

also a specialty of the restaurant would be the zhao pai mian xian ($8) which is a HUMONGOUS bowl of noodles with 15 types of ingredients in a broth that is boiled for hours. topped with a layer of oil to keep it warm, this is a homely dish that is good for nursing colds (:

Honey Lemon Salty Plum Freeze
It has a very strong taste of honey + lemon + plum altogether. It seems like there are dragonfruit seeds (?) on top of the drink. The seeds are very crunchy and gives that extra flavour and texture to the drink. If you are adventurous enough, be sure to try out this which is something more different than the rest.

Zhuang Yuan Mi Xian
Honguo's soup is double boiled for hours with parts of duck, chicken and pork and thus, it tastes very flavourful and nourishing as well. The soup is also not oily. I find this very comforting to eat on rainy days and chilly weathers.

Sze Chuan Chicken in Basket
I find it slightly salty but I love the spiciness of it. It will be rather spicy for someone who cannot take spicy food. The chicken is very lean and has no fats and I love it.

Minced Pork Lettuce Wrap
Scoop up a spoonful of the minced pork and wrap it with the lettuce. The strong taste of the minced pork goes perfectly well with the bland taste of the lettuce.

Pumpkin Fries with Salted Egg Yolk
These pumpkin fries are so cute! The "fries" are made out of pumpkin and coated with salted egg yolk. It can be a little dry because of the pumpkin's texture. Surprisingly, it is rather tasty. I was able to taste both the pumpkin and the salted egg yolk. Neither overpowered the other one.

Lotus XO Seafood Fried Rice
This is very yummy and fragrant. The mixture of ingredients adds more flavour to the already delicious fried rice.

It is presented with a huge pot of hot boiling temperature rich broth with 15 types of ingredients. You can see the ingredients from the photo taken. It was all put into the big bowl and tadah… you may start to tuck in.There wasn’t any oil layer and taste as clear as it looks. Worth to try!

Minced Pork Lettuce Wrap -$6.80. It is something interesting for me. It has the similiar concept of popiah style but this is with lettuce wrap. The minced pork texture has the sweet and spicy flavors wrapped with the fresh lettuce gives a big appetizer to start off with.

Overall the foods served here is surprisingly not bad especially the fried rice and the pumpkin fries. The staff is kind enough to guide us on how to enjoy the foods.

One can detect the wok hei in this Lotus XO Seafood Fried Rice ($8.80) and the subtle tones of chilli that adds substantial heat the dish. Compared to the fried rice at Crystal Jade or Paradise dynasty, the version here is more moist and flavorful, but fortunately not too clumpy

My eyes lit up when I saw this Minced Pork Lettuce Wrap $6.80 because I can't resist any food that are wrapped (popiah, Peking duck crepe etc). The wrap did not disappoint with its rich combination of textures and sweet-spicy flavors packed snugly in the fresh lettuce. But the filling can stand alone on its own and goes well with white rice.

The hot favorite at the tables were undeniably the Pumpkin fries ($6.80), which are deep-fried pumpkins batons coated with powdery salted egg yolk. Not exactly like crisp-like fries, the version here is squashy but still finger-licking good to qualify as a sinful delight.

Surprisingly, I found myself to like the chinese food here, especially the Fried Rice and Sze Chuan Chicken. Perhaps it was the strong spicy flavors that captured my tastebuds. Nonetheless, this is another noteworthy place to go for if you are seeking to try some very affordable Chinese food (mostly below $10) in a cooling environment.

This restaurant didn't give me a good feel about the service. They took about 15mins to send me my order. When I asked for chili, the manager who attended to me said that she will get it for me. After about 10mins, I decided to go somewhere near the kitchen to get the chili myself since they are so busy. Was attended by another staff who got it done for me in just 3 mins. If restaurant would be a perfect choice if the service improves abit.

It was sometime ago, when it opens, I try beef hotpot in this cafe, very spicy & the meat are tender. Serve with hotpot, rice, pickles & side-dish. It was big serving for myself alone, well I really can't miss their kopi-o.

Anyway, value for money. Then subsequently it become a routine that I must have hotpot every weekends, sometimes I bring my colleagues but they surprise me as they claim never dine in such environment.

The service-staff are friendly & so, are their service. Well this yunnan food really delicious.
