Had the spicy chicken on hot plate while my friend had the bibimbap. The bibimbap's paste was sweet and had a slight powdery texture. The kimchi, with a mix of sweet and salty flavours was yummy. The hot plate chicken was well-marinated with the right sweetness and was slightly spicy. Portion was filling as well. There were lots of seaweed in the soup too. Prices are affordable and food is yummy. Worth the visit!

Mmmmmm my bulgogi. This bulgogi although not as nice as the one in Korea, its the best I have tasted in Singapore. The meat is juicy and has a sweet flavour. The are really generous with the meat and the rice is an awesome fit. The onions are not overpowering but complimentary. The seaweed soup is abit salty, but overall nice to end the meal. Their anchovies are sweet! But not crunchy enough. The kimchi is mmmmmm nice. This shop is located at u town. And its a nice locaation. The shop itself is

This shop is located at u town. And its a nice locaation. The shop itself is clean, and the way to queue is nice as well, like we just gonn take the tray and eat from the canteen. The service is good and friendly. We can choose to sit indoors with aircon or outdoors without which is good

Finally University Town is ready and it offers an alternative space for people to study, dine and relax. I chance upon The Hwang’s Restaurant which offers Korean cuisine while waiting for love. There is a process in taking orders – firstly: take your cutlery and tray, secondly: choose the can/bottled drinks you like, thirdly: placed your order, subsequently: take some ice or if you prefer dispenser drinks and finally make payment and wait for your food. Each combo comes with two sides, a soup, rice and a hot plate full of BBQ meat of your choice. I order the pork and chicken BBQ combo. The pork is quite dry and tough but the chicken is moist and succulent. There is a lot of seaweed in the soup and it is quite tasty. Will return back to try other items in the menu.

Braving through the haze with my mask on, I head to U-Town for lunch and settle for Hwang's Korean Restaurant. It is a semi self-service style where you get your tray, grab a drink if you want, order your food from their menu and be given side dishes or rice and etc, then lastly to the cashier for payment. Grab a seat and your food will be served up to you. At the price of $4, quite reasonable.I ordered Dumpling La Myun (Ramen). It was served up shortly after I sat down. Very fast. 4 pieces of d

I ordered Dumpling La Myun (Ramen). It was served up shortly after I sat down. Very fast. 4 pieces of dumplings and it is nice. The dumpling skin texture is good and thin. The fillings are mainly minced meat and greens. For the side dishes which consist of kimchi and what I call it ikan bilis are average taste, though I finished all up to prevent wastage.

And even so for the noodles and soup. Nothing to 'WOW' about because it seems or it is like those packet of instant ramen we can buy off the shelves of supermarket.

There are some Korean drinks on the chiller which you may want to try. Quite a number of rice sets in their menu so can try if you are into Korean stuff.

Despite there are quite a few food courts in NUS that have the Korean food stalls, Hwang's Korean Restaurant still have its loyal customers. It's partially self-service, where you order the food, pay, and take the side-dishes at the counter, but the waitress will serve the main dish to your table. I ordered the Kimchi Ramen ($4.20). The portion is big and lots of noodles. The soup is quite spicy and sour. Not much kimchi though.

They serve a variety of Korean barbecued meat sets, rice, noodle and soup sets. This restaurant operates in a typical American school cafeteria style- First, grab a tray, then join the queue. As you move up the queue, grab drinks and/or appetizers (such as rice cakes) to go. (BTW they have quite a few interesting Korean can drinks available). Place your orders with the waiter and wait for your food order to arrive then pay. I realised the waitress at the counter was Korean only after attempting to order my set in Chinese and she didn’t really understand me. (Me so embarrassed!) So just order your desired meal set number in English.

I had a Fish (mackerel) and Chicken BBQ meat combo set for $6.20 (after NUS student discount). I really thought it was worth it, especially since the portions of meat were really generous and big, served on a sizzling hot pan. The combo set also came with a bowl of rice, soup and two korean condiments (kim chi and seaweed). Taste-wise, the meat combo was really decent, somewhat above your ordinary food court stall standard. The mackerel was really fresh and the outer skin was grilled to crispy perfection, whereas the flesh inside remained soft and juicy. A slice of lemon is provided so you can squeeze some lemon juice to pour over the fresh white fish. The chicken was very well marinated and as a result, it was really tender and flavourful. The sauce is a typical Korean marinade sauce- a combination of sweet and spicy which tingles your tongue, definitely a delight with white rice.

This is definitely a great place to enjoy good korean food!
