Salted egg yolk pasta is a fusion dish that has western and asian touch. The egg yolk is painstalkingly sourced from Vietnam, China or Taiwan to ensure the creaminess doesnt affect the overall taste. After arrival, these eggs are further fermented for 3 days.

Overall, its a good attempt that foodies will queue to try it when the dishes is launched on 29 Feb.

No doubt Seafood Aglio Olio was the first dish served out of the kitchen, its assortment of seafood had drawn a closer attention on us. They are just never too stingy with the prawns, sotong (squids) and baby scallops used. The dish came to us in watery form which was an unusual sight as compared with the past Aglio Olio we had elsewhere. Nevertheless, it had a good spicy taste that perks up the dish.

I Am Legend threw me a surprise with this item on its menu. Pretty well grilled eggplant that still retain the moist and sponginess even after going through the heat. Presentation looked unappealing with hints that it might be soaking up most of the oil which deters healthy eaters from having them. Though mozzarella Cheese with pesto sauce were part of this make, i still find the dish lackustre.

The truffle fries could not make justice to its price tag. There were little or none truffle fragrance since it was served. This finger food was plain usual leaving the only highlight with shaved Parmesan cheese topping up the fries.

The pleasing rich look of the the Salted Egg Yolk was tempting enough for salted egg yolk lover like me.In fact, this dish will permanently be in the menu from 29th February. Chef personally explained that he made use of quality salted eggs from China, Vietnam and Taiwan. He had also added that these eggs were fermented for 3 days as a preparation to the dish.

A generous amount of creamy salted egg coated prawns together with consistent texture of spaghetti was stomach warming. The use of curry leaves and bird-eye cut chilli had spiced up a little for the pasta. It's decent enough and of course there are better ones out there.

For those who shared that thought of not ordering grilled fish from the Western Stall in Food Court, its time to make a change. Yes, it might be a little cumbersome to deal with fish bones but its all worth the trouble. Looking at the creased on its skin and its awesome taste from the brown savoury sauce, they were good to satiate your appetite. Having squeezed lemon juice to reduce the fishy taste, the grilled fish was perfect in its tangy, sweet taste coupled with a few slices of pineapple.

Making the table of us happy will be their Fish & Chips from the Dory Fish. With their home-brand Tatar Sauce that was a tad spicy to balance out the greasiness on these 3 big pieces of Fish remained good enough to keep the smiles on our faces. The battered layer was crispy and not too thick which led to a direct good bite from the golden layer into its chunky meat pieces while the sides like the fries & coleslaw were just ordinary.

The smell from the charred mutton chops had already gave the dish away without us further guessing the items on the plate. These mutton chops were marinated before hand and one can really taste the "herby" flavours in it. Lamb chop is quite a heaty dish to me and I have to limit my intakes of this dish after all the Chinese new year goodies especially when the dipping sauce is black pepper. Though, it looked overcooked, the color of the lamb chop was not equivalent to the toughness of the meat. It remained as tender as what mutton chop is. Replacing the original sides with onions rings was seen as a good alternative as they were no typical flour batter without much taste of onions. Over here, its definite that you get to bite on the real onions no matter which piece you choose!

Hits and Misses, given such Western Fusion Food sold in Food Court, standards were not bad and pricing is relatively cheaper, moreover serving is hearty. Since the actual launch of the dishes is on 29 Feb, they still have time to adjust and perfect the dishes. Do give this "Legend" your support!

Last but not least, thanks OpenRice for the invitation.

First up was the salted egg yolk with prawn pasta. The chef explained that salted eggs were premiumly sourced rather than from neighbouring south-east asian locations. The use pure salted egg rather than artificial flavouring. The salted egg yolk sauce for me was a bit too thick, I would've preferred it to be thinner, so that I could spread it more evenly throughout all the pasta noodles. They were extremely generous with the crunchy prawns but it still fails to justify the $15.90 pricing, considering this is a food court.

The seafood aglio olio was the greatest disappointment as it was way too spicy and it had leftover residue of either oil, or something that looked like water. I couldn't taste anything other than pure pepper in this dish. The noodles were al dente but everything else on the plate wasn't up to standard.

Salvation for I am Legend started to arrive with the grilled garoupa. Drizzled with the legendary sauce which was sweet and slightly spicy. This reminded me of some type of Peranakan cuisine. I liked the presentation of the Garoupa and the fish meat was soft and tender. You could tell I am Legend was indeed serious when they elaborated the freshness of ingredients used.

You have a choice of fish when it comes to Fish & Chips at I am Legend. The fish tasted okay, nothing fantastic and same goes for the chips. I just wished that they made some fusion twists for this extremely common dish.

I liked the lamb chops here. Though it may look a bit over cooked, the meat still tasted tender and juicy. The onion rings were huge and though this dish is typically served with french fries, you can request for onion rings instead.

Upon your first bite into the onion ring, you will immediately know that these onion rings were made from scratch! The batter isnt' over powering and the onion ring is a legit full ring of onion! The sauce for the lamb chop tasted like a mild black pepper sauce and it brought out the charreed flavour of the lamb chop. Good job guys! This is a winner!

Overall: Decent halal western food with some fusion twists. If you're shopping in Big Box, do give them a go, especially the lamb chop or grilled garoupa, skip the other western food choices that you can find elsewhere. Also give a shout out to the chef and friendly staff of I am Legend!

Creamy Salted Egg Yolk with Prawns Pasta - SGD$15.90

Salted Egg Yolk Pasta sounds special. I uses to love salted egg chicken very much but I never hear about salted egg yolk pasta before. This is my first try of it. I like the idea of using salted egg yolk to cook the pasta, it tastes really good. However, the portion is too small to be priced at SGD$15.90. Few pieces of big sized prawns in the plate add advantage to this dish but not the portion. According to Chef Emil, the salted egg yolk sauce is made from Vietnam, Taiwan and China; it is freshly fermented for three days before serving.

Salted Egg Yolk Pasta ($15.90)
With all the rave on salted egg yolk, "I am Legend" also came out with a dish called Salted Egg Yolk Pasta. According to the Chef, the salted egg yolk sauce was specially prepared which took three days to ferment. Hence, this Salted Egg Yolk Pasta was sold in limited quantity per day.

There was generous amount of fresh prawns in this pasta. The salted egg yolk sauce was very creamy with slight spiciness and saltiness. This reminded me of Chinese fermented bean curd sauce. Overall, I quite like this Eastern and Western combination in the dish.

The Grilled Garoupa with Legendary Sauce tasted exceptionary good and one of the best grilled fish in Singapore! The grilled garoupa was crispy on the outside, seems like it was deep fried before. The meat was fresh, juicy and tender liked a steamed fish. The sauce was very unique. Sweet, sour, umami and fragrant, similar to Thai-Chinese sauce.

The Lamp Chop was slightly disappointing. Though the meat was tender and meaty, the seasoning on the meat was overly salty and charred. The onion rings were homemade and tasted good with hint of curry powder seasoning.

Seafood Aglio Oglio is quite nice because of the generous amount of seafood in it. I like it as the pasta nicely absorbed the freshness and sweetness of the assorted seafood in it but frankly it doesn’t seems like Aglio Oglio as it is abit too watery. It tastes like a western fusion of Fried Hookien Mee with a tinge of spiciness. But whatever, as long as it tastes good, I like it

Salted Egg Yolk Pasta. I felt that it is overpriced for food court and portion is rather small. Perhaps, it would be good to increase the amount of pasta for customers like us who are looking for a value for money meal. Like the generous amount of prawn in it, it tastes fresh and succulent. However, doesn’t really like the overpowering salted egg taste of it.

Grill Garoupa(S$15.90) are quite good, with their sweet in house sauce but I personally doesnt like bony fish so I prefer the dory fish & chip.

I like their seafood most, as all of them taste fresh and sweet. However, find some of the items too pricey for a foodcourt at big box and portion too little for pasta.

Seafood Aglio Olio ($11.90)
There was lots of assorted seafood such as squid, prawn, clam, mussel in this dish. As the seafood were bought daily from stalls at downstairs, what seafood being used will be depend on which seafood would fresh on that day. I felt the dish was a bit too wet. One even commented that it was more like a seafood version of Hokkien Mee.

Salted Egg Yolk Pasta ($15.90)
The sauce was freshly made in house, fermented for 3 days, and used salted eggs sourced from Vietnam, Taiwan and China. Plus point there was lots of juicy meaty prawns in this dish. However I felt the the curry flavour was a bit stronger than the salted egg yolk taste in the sauce.

Fish & Chips ($10.90)
The dish here used the commonly well known Dory fish, coated with slightly spicy batter. Compared to the other dishes, the serving portion for this was much bigger, which made the rest of us quite happy. With 3 big pieces of battered fish, it was served with fries, coleslaw and tartar sauce. The battered fish tasted quite good, being meaty and chunky, and went quite well with the buttery tartar sauce.

Grilled Fish ($15.90)
The dish used a garoupa fish (600-700 grams), which was freshly bought on that day from downstairs. It was served on a bed of shredded cabbage in a hotplate, and topped with the in-house made Legendary sauce, juicy pineapple cubes. Although being served on hotplate, the meat of the fish remained moist, juicy and buttery, instead of being dry and tough. Quite a surprise for all of us. It was the best dish of the tasting meal.

Lamb Chop
The dish would be served with fries in the new menu. As we had been already served with fries in a number of dishes, the chef decided to swap the fries for onion rings which was a great move. Although the lamb chop looked a bit too charred, I could slice the meat easily. Inside it was quite juicy and tender, with a hint of gamey taste. The meat tasted great with its slightly seasoned taste minus the charred bits. It was served with a well made black pepper sauce, which I felt was a bit too overpowered. The sauce itself tasted not bad, but together with the meat it was way too salty. The onion rings was the real deal. Thinly coated with the crispy golden brown batter, it was crispy outside, while the onion was soft and buttery inside.

Overall the food was not bad but improvement would be needed in order to make an impression in the already crowded food scene. Food was served quite fast. Another thing which I noted the food court looked rather quiet with thin crowd during peak dinner period, which was quite a big different from the popular shopping malls across the street. Maybe business would be better during weekends I hope.

I read the previous 3 reviews, and was very keen to try this "gem" in the west, moreover at a place I visit often.Sadly, the service was what I would describe as very "disconnected". Sure they were kind of polite but not keen to deliver more than required when  asked if sauce received was correct (ordered mushroom sauce), the reply was "both sauce also got black pepper"... so be warned.Food was ok. Food was ok. But I saw a young man cooking and questioned "where's Chef Emil".. true enough, that's not him and from my raised brows... immediately got the response " aiya, its the same".

No it's not the same.

Only tried the rib eye which came more cooked than asked for.

And the chicken chop - bland meat. Marinate was so-so. Tasted a bit tandoorish.... Uhh.

Wish I had more good things to say about them but it was my first and also last patronage.

I had been to I am Legend many times since it was opened in Big Box. The food there are reasonably priced and delicious. I tried the chicken chop, fish and chips, pasta and many more. Chef Emil used the freshest ingredients for his food. His mushroom aglio olio pasta was heavenly. I love the mushroom. I am not a fish person. But the fish and chip and grilled seabrass left an impression in me. Now I eat fish at his stall. Overall, the visits were worth.

Chef Emil does a fantastic job whipping up delicious food, using fresh produce. It's hard to choose my favorite one cuz what we had so far have all been good! Chicken leg was flavorful and tender. The pasta was a delicious fusion of Thai tom yam with a good kick for those who enjoy spicy food. Fish and chips - totally fresh. And the thin crust pizza - awesome. And all reasonably priced!! Gotta check this place out!! Looking forward to having another meal there soon!! 😍

Food was good. Chef Emil was very friendly and made us feel at home. He recommended his popular dishes and he advised us on the level of spiciness for his sambal chicken wings and messy joe burger gravy. After the meal, Chef came by to ask if we had any feedback. Definitely coming back for more!
