Definitely one of the better California Roll I've tried altogether in town. Ichiban Sushi located at Toa Payoh HDB hub is like one of the only choices for dinner if you are looking for a restaurant after a long day at work.From a wide range of conveyor belt sushi to shashimi to udon and other Japanese food, this is the ideal place for dinner with love ones, they are just beside MOS burger. I've been to the other outlets of this Japanese chain in Singapore and their standard remains the same somewhat, and relatively affordable.…さらに見る

Nabeyaki Udon is my favourite cooking style for Udon because in this way, the Udon is cooked in a claypot with the broth and all the ingredients, allowing the Udon to soak up the flavours of the broth more effectively. The Udon will also become much softer rather having the rubbery texture of normal Udon soup.The Udon arrived piping hot, just the way I like it, with an egg and a tempura prawn. I've not heard very good reviews for this place, but decided to give it a try since there are not that many Japanese joints around Toa Payoh HDB Hub.We were seated in a nice cozy booth that accommodates 2 persons comfortably. They have a wide selection of sushi but not that many choices for noodles or rice. I decided to go for their Tenzaru Chasoba ($13.90) which consists of tempura prawns, lady's fingers, and sweet potato.The chasoba was pretty ok - not overcooked and chewy, but I felt that the sauce was a bit too salty. I usually prefer my soba sauce to be less salty and they also didn't provide any radish to put into the tempura sauce. The tempura batter was not very good either and was quite hard, which meant that the oil wasn't hot enough when they deep-fried it. The only good thing about this restaurant is that the staff were quite attentive and re-filled my glass of iced green tea whenever I finish it. …さらに見る

Whenever I crave for Japanese food, I always thought of Ichiban Sushi. What I really like about Ichiban Sushi is that it is conveniently located in shopping malls and the food they offer is really value-for-money. There is a wide variety of combination sets to choose hence at times it is difficult to decide on one! Sometimes they also offer ‘Special Sets’ introducing new items at a discounted price. I was flipping through the menu, wondering which of the usuals I should be settling on when something on the last page of the menu caught my eye.Teriyaki sliced pork with poached egg on rice in hot stone served with miso soup and a small side salad for under $14.Let's try it shall we?What a happy pop of colors from the cherry tomatoes, carrots and egg. And a generous serving of teriyaki sliced pork of course. The side salad was sad though. random veggies with a dollop of mayonnaise. Hmm. Wafu dressing would've been much appreciated.Be sure to stir the rice from time to time before it becomes burnt rice. Unless, of course you like it like that.In a word? Flavourful.
