Peking Duck - $55: Skin is super crispy & not oily. The wrap is also served warmed & it's very soft. However, the serving of the vegetable is slightly little.

BBQ Combo - $18: We ordered BBQ Combo of Chicken, Roast Pork & Char Siew, but they ran out of Char Siew! Nothing to rave about on the chicken, but the Roast Pork skin is very crispy. It is also very tender & the ration between fat & lean meat meat is just nice.

Beancurd with Seafood - $20: Nothing to rave about apart from the fresh seafood.

Recovering from flu I decided to opt for something light and nothing would make my day better than a bowl of hot “Ting Zai Zhou” also known as “Lychee Boat Congee” from Imperial Nan Bei Restaurant, Tampines.

There are a wide range of Cantonese congee but the most popular congee is the Hongkong Boat Congee.

Imperial Treasure Nan Bei Restaurant Lychee Boat Congee consisted of many fresh ingredients added to make this congee special. Ingredients such as thinly shredded cuttlefish, fried peanuts, shredded pork, pork skin, fish slices, jellyfish, fish maw slices, thinly shredded chicken meat and doughnut stick strips.

The rice is boiled for several hours until the rice grains breaks down into a very smooth watery gruel.

Imperial Nan Bei Ting Zai Zhou still serve the best Lychee Boat Congee. The taste is flavorful with all the sweetness of the various types of ingredients added to this smooth addictive porridge leaving a lingering taste in my mouth.

Priced at S$6.80 for this take-away.

A traditional Cantonese dish from Guangzhou where fishermen used to sell this porridge in their small dedicated boats.

Currently, there is a new itinerary for visitors touring Guangzhou, China which includes “Guangzhou Lychee Boat Tour with Congee”.

A good mix of fresh ingredients in a congee.

With this bowl of congee, I think I have almost recovered from my flu and also gain back my appetite.

Pig Shanks come from the front leg of the pig. When properly cooked the pig shank become succulent and flavorful and this is one of the best appetizer menu from Imperial Treasure Nan Bei.

The best way to cook is in a long slow braised.

Thinly sliced Foshan province’s popular braised tender boneless Pork Shank are marinated with rice wine and spices. This dish is normally served with a dipping sauce of white vinegar and minced garlic together with red chilli. The robust dipping sauce gives a real kick to the appetizer. Alternatively another dipping sauce is the red chilli oil paste but we still prefer the original vinegar sauce.

Here is the close up view of the Foshan Marinated Pig Shank. Amazingly marinated and the texturized grain of the meat. Definitely require the mastery skill to cut and deboned the knuckle into half lengthwise and trimming the marinated pig shank into thin slices without tearing them apart.

By the way, Foshan is located in the northern part of the Pearl River about 12 miles from Guangzhou.

Fried rice was fragrant and nice, but the noodles were rather normal like any other chinese restaurants. We absolutely love their red bean pancake! Sweet yet savoury, but not a thing for the health-conscious people due to the large amount of oil that goes with it. The tang yuan was good too, a change from the usual tang yuan in soup style.

So far, Imperial Treasure Nan Bei Restaurant has one of the best water chestnut cake I ever tasted. Though the cake is soft, but holds its shape even after frying. There is a generous amount of chopped water chestnut in each piece of cake. The trademark characteristic of this dish is its translucent appearance.

Whether taken hot (panfried) or stored in the refrigerator is just as good.

Here’s a photo of a plate of Water chestnut cake which we requested for take-away. It was stored in the refrigerator and later served as a cold snack. Still very fresh and crunchy.

I needed something light for my lunch after my dental appointment at Tampines One.

Having passed by Imperial Treasure Nan Bei Restaurant, I decided to order a bowl of the restaurant popular Lychee Boat Congee for take away.

You may wonder how did this name derived from?

Well, the history of the special Sampan Porridge (Ting Zai Zhou) was served aboard sampans that plied Liwan Lake on the western outskirts of Guangzhou (China). Their local people and tourists would get onto the boats and taste the porridge while making their journey across the lake.

Imperial Treasure Nan Bei Restaurant at Tampines One is one of the unique Cantonese Restaurant that served this special porridge and they name this dish as Lychee Boat Congee .

The major ingredients include pork, sliced fish, fried peanut, slices of deep fried doughnut sticks and thinly shredded cuttlefish and jellyfish strips. The porridge is boiled and together with all the ingredients just before it is served.

A light refreshing congee with lots of protein combination.

Priced at S$6.80.

Have visited this Chinese restaurant to celebrate my mother's birthday. The environment was quite squeezy and is not really that cooling. Fortunately the foods here tasty, if not I would have upset my mother. Especially love to eat their sweet and sour pork as the pork meat are very tender and juicy. The colourful capsicums are very crunchy and fresh, which added that extra nice fragrant to this dish. The portion is quite alright and the price is reasonable.

The Scallop Rice Dumpling was $10.90 each and enough for 2 persons. You get 10% off for DBS credit card for rice dumpling. They offered to steam for you. We decided to takeaway 2 for dinner. We were not disappointed with the taste, it consist of yellow bean, scallops, roast duck and pork belly. The taste and combination was just right. Only thing I wish they deboned the roast duck, as my half portion had bone. The takeaway came with sachets of sugar and a small tub of soya sauce. It was very filling for me.

My 2 other friends ordered Prawnballs porridge, another ordered Beef Brisket noodles. I ordered the Grass Carp Belly with Century Eggs. All of us liked our porridge. Indeed very delicious. I have a soft spot for fish belly despite the many bones in it. I love the fatty flavour that oozes out when you sink your teeth into the fish. Congee was overall very fine, probably cooked for many many hours. I wonder how do we achieve just texture and consistency at home. Can someone tell me the secret to smooth, non grainy cantonese congee?

My other friend who has the beef brisket noodles was also very satisfied with her mains. Seems like she was given many pieces of briskets, quite a value for money dish.

We ordered a combination of pork and roasted duck to share. It was not bad, both were rather crispy. I love the pork, gives out a crackling sound when you bite into it. Good amount of fats and of course cholestrol.

Overall a very satisfying meal, will definitely come again. Be warned though that it can get rather quiet. Dinner time on a thursday was not too bad, I could get a seat quite easily at 730, but it became a little crowded at about 8pm.
Be prepared to wait if you come during the weekend, it is a common sight to see a queue for the lunch dim sum.

Would recommend crispy noodles as it really taste awesome, the noodles wouldn't be soggy like what you get from zhi cha store, it is still somehow or rather crispy even though it mixes with the sauce already. Fried rice was not bad too, we order the crab meat with scallop.

Go for the crispy noodles, this is what i recommend.
