Standards have a vast difference as compared to the very first time I had visited them. Noodles are moist but the soup & food tasted bland this round. I can
no longer reminisce the old school days time over a hot bowl of Bah
Chor Mee.

The portions and pricing are too pricy to determine such
a bowl of Bah Chor Mee. Although Lau Lim has its own style in the bowl
of bah chor mee, we can better portions and value worth the money else
where.

This time around, after sending someone to the airport, we decided to give this place a try again. As it has received many endorsements from the media and food bloggers, there must be something good about this place. Best part, it was a weekday morning, so we don't expect it to be packed with people.

Occupying two shops, Jalan Tua Kong Lau Lim ('JTK') stall can be quite big. One shop sell the fishball noodle, drinks and toast while the other location, also have Yong Tau Fu. For a bright sunny day, the al-fresco can be considered quite warm, there is an option for indoors in the second shop. You must order at the cashier, make payment and get your queue number to put on your table.

We ordered 2 dry Mee Pok ($4 each) and a bowl of Fish Ball Soup ($5). We waited about 15 minutes before the food was served.

The portion size is above average. Each bowl you get 3 fish balls, few slices of fish cakes, bak chor and lean meat and ... Wow, I see prawns!! Yup, 3 pieces of prawns and they are deshelled. I have to admit, now you know where the $$$ goes to.

The noodle is cook to al-dente, not sticky and with a bite of crunchiness in it. Covered under the ingredients are the generous serving of pork lard and pork oil that basked the noodle. Wow, no wonder the noodle is yummy. The fish ball is bouncy but soft, while the rest of the ingredients are fresh, especially the prawns.

As I ate my noodle without chilli, I can tell you it is very flavourful. LD's like her noodle as well, and she approved of the chilli version of the mee pok.

The Fish Ball Soup has around 10 fishballs in it. The soup looks a bit cloudy, covered with excess of the fishball which add to the taste of the soup. Again the fishball is soft and springy. Very Q.

Service here is very minimum, as you need to go to the cashier to order before they deliver your food.

Overall, based on our second experience here JTK fishball noodle is one of the good fishball noodle around. Price definitely higher, however you are paying for the quality here. Waiting time will be the minus point here, but at least you can seat, have a drink and chit chat while you wait. Cheers!!

Having my late breakfast, I took my time to eat slowly. Chewy and springy noodles were what I expected, great combination to the slices fish cake. Came along with soup for dried version, hearty bowl was watery yet flavourful. Natural sweetness flashed out from pork bone and fishballs, it was obviously cooked without MSG. $3.50 was utterly cheap for mine, like it very much.

It was 6.30am early morning on 12.11.2013. we decided to go bedok simpang for breakfast. so it had to be meepok tar at jalan tua kong lau lim. according to my friend, this was from the original stall.

On this day it was a bit salty. the guy must have added a bit more fish sauce & usual loads of chilli. love the chilli. still, for me overall, it did not disappoint. meepok was enough qq (al dente), fish balls were sweet, and there were lots of minced pork & quite fatty ones & 3 la pok (deepfried lard) which i took 2. the fish cake & lean pork added to the overall experience. no prawn. but chilli was still the most important.

I was it better than the jalan tua kong stall at 6th avenue? in fact i thought the 6th avenue one was better overall though perhaps this fishball was better.

The Hakka yong tau foo stall is located beside the mee pok stall. You choose what you want from the wide range of selection and they will deep fry it for you till crispy then a special minced pork sauce is poured over the fried items. The fried items will absorb the sauce making it so yummy and yet not soggy.

Wet tissues were given to diners with Jln Tua Kong name imprint on them. This is the small version of mee pok and no prawn were added. Although I prefer this to their branch (somewhere located at coffeeshop nearby), I felt that the standards had dropped drastically and price is no longer worth the wait and noodle. Noodles are moist but the soup & food tasted bland this round. I can no longer reminisce the old school days time over a hot bowl of Bah Chor Mee.

Well known for its long waiting time, this is no deterence to their faithful supporters. Tables and tables are filled up in the coffeeshop.

Ambience
Too crowded, parking and seatings are usually my considerations before going there.

Price
The portions and pricing are too pricy to determine such a bowl of Bah Chor Mee. Although Lau Lim has its own style in the bowl of bah chor mee, we can better portions and value worth the money else where.

Recommendations / Tips
They do offer Yong Tau Fu, while waiting for the mee pok customers may try their YTF as starters.

If you are a fussy eater like me, you don't get much of a choice here. There is only 1 dish and it comes with fishball, fishcake and pork slices and that's it. I don't even get to add meatballs to the mix.

On first look, the dish looks really plain. This is the chili version and it appeared really harmless. That impression didn't last long. The sauce is well balanced with vinegar and the chili is kick ass after a few mouthfuls. I can take spicy and this is alright to me, ask for less if you can't take the heat.

The noodles are crunchy and nice but they dry up after a while. My trick to eating dry noodles is to pour a little soup in now and then to maintain the moisture of the noodles so that they don't stick together in a lump.

The fishballs are bouncy and salty (just the way i like it). The pork slices are also very tender and well cooked. Too long and the noodles become too soggy and the fishballs dry and hard etc etc etc. Anyhow, the conclusion is that this is an awesome bowl of mee pok!

Business was really good and we had to wait quite a while for our food.
I like their concept of yong tau foo, something different from what i usually ate.
And the food's overall quite delicious and quite a huge portion!
All of us were super full and trying to finish all our food

Jalan Tua Kong Lau Lim sells really good fish ball minced pork mee pok! Their queue is always super long, especially during lunch hours. I love their mee pok as it is not lumpy as compared to some other mee pok. Their fishball is also very chewy and they are very generous with the number of fishballs served! Their minced meat is another highlight. So finely chopped into small tiny pieces, yet retaining the sweetness of the minced pork due to the sauce. Very appetizing!

Yes - This is the undisputed number one Dried Mee Pok on my list.

I was hooked the first time I tried Lau lim's mee pok.

Prawns are fresh and crunchy, noodles are springy and well seasoned by the chili.
I'll usually order another bowl of 'ingredient soup to go along with their meepok.
Their soup are made out of solid stock without MSG. (I'm rather sensitive with MSG)

The bad point about their meepok is... you cant stop asking for more!]
I ran out of words to describe this meepok. Simply good.
You gotta try to believe it. you wouldnt stop with a normal $3.00 serving.

Their chili are awesome to go with mee pok, so good that i even tabao their chili home! (*note that its available in jar form for customer. $8/jar)

Do go early, their business end at 5pm daily.
Must try!
