The Hitichano white beer is spectacular. But shop your way around the informative beer list they've compiled. It's organized by brewery, so you can get a bit of info on each and an overview if their bottlings. There's also a tasting flight for whatever's on draft. That's a great place to begin, then order up a pint if your favorite. We didn't get food, so can't speak to that. continue reading

Jibru Beer Bar is also a good place to chill, apart from Tanuki bar in the Orchard area, but if you are going for beer, Jibiru has a greater selection of unique beers. I got the Tamamura Honten Indian Summer Saison this time, which is one type of japanese beer. It is a very smooth drink with hints of cinnamon, but may be a little too bitter and finishes dry. Overall it's still quite refreshing and good on a hot day. continue reading

Went for drinks at JiBiru slightly before 8 and I managed to enjoy the Happy Hour promotion! Ordered one 440ml Sapporo Premium lager ($6.10) , and a 300ml Hitachino Nest pale ale($9.90). Not an expert on beer but I preferred the taste of Sapporo as compared to the pale ale. The pale ale seemed to taste way more gingery/lemony? It tasted odd, especially the aftertaste, and I didn't really like it. The happy hour prices are also divided into two, with one segment from 6-8 and another before that. Beer prices can get pretty cheap with the HH prices, making this a great place to chillout. The ambience of the place is not bad honestly, the entire row of bars/bistros along the 313 outdoor region is quite nice to hangout and just chill. JiBiru has a dim kind of setting, with electronic tealights at the table. The tables and benches are wooden, which gives a very Japanese feel to it. JiBiru offers a really extensive range of Japanese beers and it's quite mindboggling at first sight.Service is not too bad I guess, but it's nothing totally fantastic either, I'm guessing most people come here to just chillout with the beers. They serve up Japanese food too, but since it was my after-dinner destination I wasn't too keen on stuffing myself! Spent in total of $24 after GST and service charge -wasn't too bad an experience! continue reading
