Dom Pedro ($18)
Fresh Milk, Vanilla Ice-Cream + Black Nikka Whisky
It looked just like another plain vanilla milkshake. In just a single taste, I could feel the heat of the alcohol down my throat. Feeling high fast. It was rather strong drink to have.

Overall the drinks were great. But in the warm dine in area, one tended to feel sleepy easily.

As the Cafe is sitting on a Melbourne, Austrialian theme cafe, its interior was quaint and rustic. A pretty place with high ceilings, layback and quiet, ideal for studying and relaxing.

Hot Chocolate was served with a packet of biscuit and comes with latte art. It lacked the chocolate taste that I'm looking for. Well, the taste was not as strong as I had thought.

Egg Benedict had given me a little surprise with 3 English Muffins on the plate and each of them having their on taste where X comes with Salmon which were sliced thinly accompanied with few slices of tomato and egg. While what we had on Y was Pancetta and egg and Z, with streaky bacons. I had chosen poached eggs to be served out of other options available. The eggs were skillfully done and topped with hollandise sauce.

As compared to Mr Benedict, JM's lazy breakfast was plain and unappealing, totally fits the name for the dish, "lazy". We have topped up the plain dish with sauteed mix wild mushrooms on top of our toasts and poach eggs. Breakfast on this plate was simple with butter and some jam.

Overall, if you want to enjoy the tranquility and relax over a meal, I would say Jimmy Monkey Cafe can be one of the choices to stay away from the bustling city. On the other hand, I find that the food pricing may be a little stretch on the wallets.

We were fortunate to snag a table. I do like the very "chill" and relaxed ambience, and the cafe was surprisingly quiet despite the crowd (who were also chattering away over meals).

I started off with a Cuppucino (SGD$5.50) served in its signature blue cup. Not bad, the coffee held slight hints of fruits, if my detection skills served me well. What would have made it more perfect would be some cocoa powder sprinkled atop the foam.

For mains, the colleague had the JM's Breakfast Sandwich (SGD$16.00) - with rocket salad, bacon, egg, roma tomato, avocado and kay's relish. It was a very hearty breakfast that was surprisingly not greasy, and tasted good - comfort food at its best.

I succumbed and selected the JM Breaky Muffin (SGD$14.00) - sunny eggs, leg ham, Hollandaise sauce, roma tomato and rocket salad. The muffins were exactly the way I like it - sandy textured, slightly sweet and not too soft. The combination with the eggs, ham and tomato made a simple home-styled meal awesome. The potato salad on the side was commendable as well - tender potato chunks with egg mayo dressing.
All in all I enjoyed the dining experience at this secluded and serene area, and the food was very satisfying. Never mind the inaccessibility - one wouldnt want their new favorite haunts to be over-crowded with too many people.

This was my first time coming to this cafe. it is quite inaccessible and I'm here as my friend is living at One North Residences.I had egg benedict with smoked salmon and it was mediocre. was expecting the salmon to be more tasty but it was rather plain. The eggs are runny and a good combination to have together with the salmon. overall, i will not be specially back for the food here as me and my friends feel that there are nicer egg benedict salmon at other restuarants.

1) Steak Sandwich - $16

The beef was a little overdone, and so quite tough to chew. Dunno whether the bread was too big or the beef steak was too small, the beef seemed miserable sandwiched between the 2 slices. If I'm the one preparing this, I will serve on a smaller bread, so that relatively it seem that I'm generous in the meat portion and customer will not feel short-changed like me (>.<)

2) Chicken Thigh - $14

In terms of taste wise, the chicken fared better. It was super tender even though it was chicken breast. The roasted tomato was done perfectly, which jet out sweet warm tomato juice once you bite into it. The imperfection was probably the serving, which was again too small.

I guess this place is probably not the best choice if you have big appetite or super hungry. Haha

The decor at this place also reminds me a little of Toby's Estate with its high ceilings and half-finished decoration sort of appearance, with the brick walls and stuff.

Despite their flawless service, I must say that their mains is quite disappointing. I ordered the Smoked Salmon Sandwich ($16+) and it was quite dry and hard to eat, thus difficult to enjoy ...not very worth the price in my honest opinion.

My friends ordered the Spaghetti w/ Sauteed Mushrooms (18+) which I think would be a better choice, nonethless not justified by the prices. The portion seemed small but my friend couldn't finish one on her own though. I pinched a mouthful - it was yummy but potentially jelat.

Molten Chocolate Lava Cake with Vanilla Ice-Cream ($12+) is practically heaven on earth! All my friends and I adore it to bits and we were mourning for it when we finished it within seconds - no exaggeration!!! Highly recommended and probably the highlight of the menu.

No trip to Jimmy Monkey could be complete without coffee, as we ordered a Latte for $5. Every sip was very very good and I don't regret it at all... also highly recommended.

In a nutshell - just order the lava cake and coffees and skip their mains, it is still a pretty good cafe to hang out if you know what to order ;)

Cappuccino
This was the perfect blend for me at that point. Having had too much coffee, I was kinda 'wasted' but this managed to wake me up through its strong yet rounded flavour of the mix. The milk was light and didn't mask the taste of the beans. The combination was just right, imagine having a bowl of hot soup when you're having gastric - that's the kind the feeling I had when I first tried this. A very comforting cup of coffee. Presentation wise, I loved the latte art, though the foam was a tad rougher than the one we had at Bettr Barista so you could see the big foaming bubbles instead of an even uniform foam. Loved this still though!

Latte
My friend was puzzled when I said I woke up from my cappuccino and when I tried her latte, I realised why. It was a much milkier version, which covered the taste of the coffee in it. Slightly bitter, but you could still taste the rounded flavour of the blend. I still preferred my cappuccino after trying this, but perhaps it might sit well with those who like a milkier base to go with their coffee. The little snack that went along was a perfect complement to the coffee we had. With a strong cinnamon taste, it was rather refreshing and I liked the crunchy cookie texture to it. Second to the one we had at Bettr Barista though!

Raisin Scone ($4.30)
Had this for takeaway as we were too filled with coffee for anything else.

It's usually served with butter and jam but this raisin scone was just served like that for takeaways. I reheated it in the oven after getting back and it filled my kitchen with a rich buttery fragrance. The top was very crispy while it was hot and the I liked how it was filled with a generous amount of raisins. I would have preferred a more crumbly version though, as it tasted simply like a more condensed version of bread inside. The rich buttery fragrance stayed as fragrance too and didn't add much to the flavour. Not exactly a very recommended scone for those who like it crumbly and rich.

Coffee wise, this is definitely very much recommended. And looking at its brunch menu, I can't help but to be tempted to come back for it the next time. You might not get the level of service you'd expected over here, as the service crew seemed pretty cold that it makes you wonder if you're really important as a customer. But if you look beyond that, I guess it's still a pretty good experience with its great coffee.

I ordered the Flat White at Jimmy Monkey's a while back, as part of my research for a school project. When I took my first sip, I was not expecting it to be so bitter. However, I grew to like the taste as the coffee has a multi-layered taste. While it tastes bitter at first, you also taste the sweetness and spiciness of the coffee bean which makes the experience one of a kind.
