The red bean pancake has a crispy coated skin with lots of sesame with smooth like silk red bean. If you are a read bean lover, this is a must try!

The hghlight is the pan fried meat dumpling. The shape is different than normal shapped dumplings but we loved it this way. It goes perfect with the vinegar and ginger. Definitely juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Yummy!

Having been serving these Xiao long baos for 25 years, Jing Hua Xiao Chi started as a humble eatery in one of the refurbished shophouses along Neil road by native Singaporeans Mr & Mrs Han, who believed in serving home-style goodness cuisine. Currently in the hands of their son, Guo Guang, Jing Hua stays true to their original menu, which remained unchanged since Day One.

According to Guo Guang, “Jing Hua is the legacy of the Han Famiy and represents years of hard work and passion. I hope to uphold the reputation of the restaurant and spread the word on our cuisine so that future generations can enjoy and experience the true tastes of Jing Hua."

These are not empty talk without substance. In fact, the Xiao Long Baos 小笼汤包 ($7++ for 7pcs) are near perfect--the ball of minced pork at the center, loose and yielding, as if itself in midmelt. My 2nd XLB landed in my spoon intact and buoyant, and I popped the entire thing comfortably in my mouth. There could be a little more of that liquefied pork gelatin but I'm just being greedy.

Other dumplings variations include the steamed vegetarian dumplings 素饺子 ($7++ for 7 pieces), stuffed with taupok bits and crunchy turnips which even non-vegetarians will delight. The Seafood and Pork Dumplings 三鲜饺子 ($8++ for 10) had a slightly chewy feel but the ingredients tasted fresh and not too greasy.

I prefer the pan-fried version 三鲜锅贴 ($8++ for 10 pieces) which transformed the original chewy skin into delicate crunchy bites with tantalizing burnt aroma. This gives the pan-fried dumpling more character, as if it was a golden pillow case 金枕头. Perfect if there were more chives.

The mastery achievement goes beyond the dumplings to the noodles and the desserts. The Noodle with Minced Pork & Soya Bean Sauce 炸酱面 ($5++), is wonderfully alchemized by the minced pork and age-old calculus soya bean paste that Iess salty than other specimens.

The Osmanthus soup with glutinous rice ball soup (桂花汤圆) ($3++) arrived hot and fragrant with warm floral inhalations. Hand-made with a spot-on dough-to-filling ratio, each tiny pop is rolled with a different flavour; lotus and walnut, black sesame, red bean and peanuts.

Another must-try is the Crispy Red Bean Pancake 豆沙锅饼 ($10++) that is prepared freshly upon order. Expertly deep-fried till they are like crunchy fritters, the dark brown parcels oozes dense, sweet red bean paste with charred sesame aroma.

After such a satisfying meal, I am convinced that the Han's decision to leave the menu unchanged was a right one. Consistent quality food that can stand the test of time. Sounds unbelievable in our modern age but here is a true story.

One of the simplest traditional Ja Jiang Mian I have eaten. There is only La Mian, Ja Jiang sauce and shredded cucumber in the dish. You will not meet the crowd if you reach before 7pm. The hot and sour soup was a tiny little bowl though but was enough to cure that szechuan craving. the minced pork noodle and dumpling were pretty average for me today. Somehow this visit did not excite me as much as before, perhaps I'm expecting more dishes innovation or something

Jing hua is the best for their dumplings. Service is fast, food is good and prices are relatively low. I love their vegetable dumplings which have beancurd tang hoon, cabbage Among other ingredients. Despite having no meat in them, the dumplings are chock full of flavour from the numerous ingredients used. Fresh and light, these leave you feeling good even after eating many of them. With a thin skin to hold everything together this makes for a really great mouthful.

Jing hua has the best dumplings in Singapore! The dumplings have soft pliable skins filled with juicy pork based fillings. There are super tasty and extremely juicy as well. In addition the dumplings are all not very expensive so this is a good place to get your Xiao long bao and jiaozi fix. The red bean pancake is my favorite item On the menu. It is crispy on the outside chewy and sweet on the interior.

Why?

Xiao lung bao and their noodles. Heck before the renovation we queued for over three hours and my date was complaining about the excessive wait. Then we had to share a table with another couple to her dismay. Once she bit into the dumplings, she was all smiles and all the discomforts and inconvenience went away. She knew it was worth the wait and the sharing of the table.

Besides, I PAID.

And yes, it was WORTH IT!!!

Red Bean Paste Pancake - To end off a sumptious feast of dumpling is this hot favourite Red Bean Paste Pancake. The pastry is crispy with sesame toppings making it frangrant. A thin layer of mochi lines the pastry in the inside and the melting hot red bean paste simply oozes out. The sweetness level of the red bean is just right. Always feel that it is like a "Happing Ending" having this as the dessert.

Little Juicy Steamed Meat Dumplings - One of the hot favourites in this shop. The dumpling skin is very soft and the meat ball inside is so juicy and tasty! One must be skilful in handling this item. Try it with a pair of chopsticks and you will know why. $7.00 for 7 pcs.

As mentioned, one must be skilful in handling the Little Juicy Steamed Meat Dumplings. You can see through the dumpling skin...A meatball soaked in a delicious soup. Once you bite it, you really have to sip the juice. As regulars there with my colleagues and friends from overseas, we always joked that whoever breaks the xiao long bao when getting a piece out of the bamboo basket, has to pay for the meal.

Pan Fried Mixed Seafood and Pork Dumplings - A Pan Fried Dumpling in a small rounded oblong roll. A cute shape indeed. Eat it once served is simply wonderful! The dumpling wrap is fried to a golden brown and it is crackling crispy when it is sizzling hot. Crispy on the outside and the inside ingredients which is a mixture of pork, vegetable and seafood is so juicy. * A must eat item. $8 for 10pcs.

This shop is along Neil Road with one side of it leading to Chinatown. Initially years back, we see many Japanese customers queing up at this shop. There is always a queue waiting eagerly at the shop. It seems that there were writeups on this shop in the Japanese magazines, hence we see many Japanese tourists or residing Japanese coming here. Nowadays we see many local customers here too. The boss has expanded his premise by taking over the shop that was next door which is indeed good news as the waiting could be shortened. There are other savoury items like Steamed Vegetarian Dumplings, Noodles with Minced Pork And Soya Bean Paste etc and sweets like Rose Flavoured Glutinous Rice Balls and Lotus Seed Paste Pancakes etc.

Located opposite the open carpark along Neil Road, this small eatery is always packed with locals, as well as tourists (especially Japanese). Long queue is often spotted outside the shop. They are well-known for their xiao loong pao (steamed pork dumplings), wodei (pot stickers) & zha jiang mian (noodle with minced pork & soya bean paste).

They also serve other northern Chinese cuisine such as Chinese pizza, steamed vegetables dumplings and szechuan vegetables noodles. For desert, there are glutinous rice balls with rose or osmanthus fragrance soup and red bean pancakes. All these, including the noodles, are handmade.

Price ranges from $7-$10 per dish. On average, each person spends about $10-$20. Prepare enough cash, as the eatery does not accept credit cards or NETS payment. Despite the good food, the owner & staff of the eatery are not very friendly. However, I still think that it's a good place for good food. My first time to the eatery was 10 years ago and I still bring friends there now.
