I last visited Kuru Kuru a couple of years ago. As there is a recent Groupon deal, I searched for latest reviews to see if the restaurant is worth a re-visit before I make the purchase.
Was very apprehensive with some recent poor reviews of the place. Nonetheless, decided to check out the restaurant yesterday.
I am happy to say that my apprehension dissipated when the 1st 2 dishes arrived, which were sashimi (salmon, yellowtail & swordfish) & pork cutlet. The former was cold & fresh. The latter, though thin, was decent.
The rest of the dishes (makis, various sushi, shishamo, ebi tempura, chicken wings, gyoza, garlic fried rice ) were OK.
My only gripes were :
Salmon teriyaki/ Salmon in butter sauce - very small pieces for each diner. Some were moist, others overdone & dry.
Chawanmushi - bland
Grilled Saba - skin was nicely grilled, but again, dry.
Sakura dumpling - this is a dried hard mess that I had to spit out. The dorayaki is a better choice than the dumplings
Ice cream - all ok ecept the vanilla, which has strong artificial taste
Salmon roe sushi - overly salty & not so fresh.
Service
Nothing I can fault with. They brought pots )for hot ocha) & jugs (of drinks) so that you can re-fill yourself.
One of the wait staff (I think a male Filipino) even wished my husband 'Happy Father's Day'. Well, it was just a lunch, not a special celebration. Gesture appreciated, though.
So, this place is still worth a visit.

The weekday dinner buffet is about 30 plus for adults. The variety is wide and I did not manage to try every single dish but many of the recommended dishes did not disappoint. I did not take pictures of every dish as we were too busy eating and talking.

Seasoned Baby Octopus. Common dish in most Japanese restaurants. Their seasoning was just nice. Not overwhelmingly sweet nor salty. Texture was crunchy. The baby octopuses were quite huge too.

Pork Belly. It was soooooo well marinated and it tastes like the Cha Shu of a nice Japanese Ramen. The fats disintegrate easily and once it enters into your mouth, it melts. I really wanted wanted to finish all the fats but it was too unhealthy. Ordered several portions of these though cos the meat just tastes too good!

Fresh sashimi, generously sliced. Salmon, octopus, yellow tail, tuna, sea bass. Another dish that we ordered several portions of. I was quite impressed for such a humble restaurant, the sashimi is of these standard. Not bad!

Teriyaki Salmon. Nothing much to say about. Just tastes like any other normal grilled salmon drizzled with teriyaki sauce. But I like the taste of the sauce.

Yaki Niku - This stir-fried beef is awesome! It is the usual sweetly marinated thinly sliced beef stir fried with garlic and onions, sesame seeds.... I ate 2 plates on my own. This comes in another flavour - Black Pepper, which was nice well because the black pepper taste is not overwhelming. This is also a quite common dish and I think korean cuisines have such a dish too.

The crowd wasn't very good. Probably cos of the location?
Location wise, I felt that it was pretty off for those who take public transport. It is quite a distance to the nearest MRT station (we actually walked from Orchard MRT). Nonetheless, it was a good dining experience! (:
The staff were observant and service was prompt. The dishes that we ordered all arrived in the right quantity despite us placing order messily in drips and draps.
Sadly, the dessert were not included in the buffet. A top-up is required so we gave it a miss.

buy some discount coupon from the website was not expecting much but it turn out to be a good deal. We order the garlic fried rice which was delicious and the right portion for a main dish not so little and not so much. I order the chicken curry rice for my main as well. The curry was nice and sweet and the carrot that come with the curry was cooked so soft that is simply melt in your mouth. Overall it was a delicious and affordable meal. will go there again if hae the chance.

You can either do the buffet or a la carte here at Kuru-kuru japanese Restaurant. We chose to have the a la carte. The price of the food here are reasonably cheap and affordable. Hubby ordered the Karee Raisu ($9). The pork cutlet with japanese curry rice is good, especially the curry, very delicious. I had the Omu Raisu ($8). The Japanese fried rice with egg omelet is a simple dish, yet very satisfying! The flavour is good. We also ordered the Yaki Sakana To Mango ($14). The pan fried fish with

We also ordered the Yaki Sakana To Mango ($14). The pan fried fish with mango is alright. The mango is very sweet, and the sauce is tasty too. However, after a few more bites with the creamy sauce, we start to get sick of it. Perhaps the portion is just too much for 2 person.

For dessert, we had the Dezarto Moriawase ($3.5), a mixed dessert platter consists of different kinds of mochi and pancake.

A lot of people tend to stereotype Japanese food is expensive. You are not wrong, but not necessary for Japanese buffet. Overall, most of the dishes were okay except the pizza. The dishes served were small in portion, so you get to try out more dishes on the menu. You can check out this Japanese buffet as the buffet pricing is quite attractive!
