Lai Lai Casual Dining is a cheerful bistro decorated in bright hues. Service is brosk, polite and friendly - just like what you wpuld expect in Taiwan. The specialty here is Japanese style ramen served up with popular Taiwanese toppings like crispy chicken cutlet, crispy fish chunks, braised beef, chashu or braised pork. The beef ramen here needs no introduction. We decided to try something different this visit. The chashu ramen $8.90 is very good. Pity it does not include a braised egg as shown in the menu; it is a separate order item at $1.80 - rather pricey for something that costs no more than 80¢ at the food court. The crispy fish ramen is nice $9.90 but the fish had been marinated too long so ended up being too salty. For those who wish to skip the ramen for a light meal Lai Lai serves a small selection of street food typically sold at Taiwanese night markets such as oyster omelette, pancake or jian bing and tempura, starting from $4.90 for 3pcs of ebi fry.The milky bubble tea at $3.50 is the best I've tasted in Singapore - silky smooth, thick and frothy and not saccharine sweet. Nice place to come to when you have cravings for Taiwanese food. Pity the menu does not include any desserts. continue reading

The egg roll here at Lai Lai is not bad but not really worth the price. It consist of egg and vegetable inside. It is quite tasty and delicious though and worth a try. Love the ice blended drinks here at Lai lai and the milk tea too although it could be a little sweet and the pearls a little hard. The red bean or the green bean ice blend is really good though.love the set meals!so affordable continue reading

Lai lai casual dining at Nex has a nice ambiance that makes you feel at home. Located at Nex, it's spacious and the staff there are relatively friendly and attentive. For $13.90, you get to order a set meal that comes with 1 main, 1 set and 1 drink. My favourite drink is the milk tea- its tea fragrance is strong and pleasant, and the pearls are sweet and chewy! For mains, i ordered the braised pork rice that came with perfectly seasoned pork (although a bit oily), braised egg and seasoned vegetables. For sides, my favourite has to be the pig's intestines as its braised soft and packs a bunch of flavor. Will definitely be back for more! continue reading

I met a couple of friends for lunch at Lai Lai Causal Dining. I decided to order their signature Beef Noodles. Where else can you get good beef noodles except from Lai Lai. they had the soup version and the dry version. I went ahead with the soup version and boy did i not regret my choice. the beef soup was so tasty, i think their cook did a great job in preparing the broth. the beef itself was so tender and chewy. the noodles were good too, does not stick to the teeth. I am very satisfied. continue reading

Lai Lai is not much known for their curry. Today Merlion Wayfarer decided to take a risk and try out their lunch specials for chicken and beef curries. The Taiwanese style of curry is different from the Indian, from the Malay and from the Japanese type. This version is less watery, more oily and much spicier. The chicken was just about right, and the beef was tough. Merlion Wayfarer ended up eating more beef than her share coz her friend didn't like the taste. However, both of them slurped up the delicious tangy q-q noodles and enjoyed the bouncy taste tremendously - Sure beats their 招牌 beef! continue reading
