Every weekends, there are high-tea buffet at Lao Beijing Plaza Singapura branch. Many traditional bejing foods are served within their buffet menu. It's yummy but please do not repeat the dishes as most dishes are made with minced pork, and can may be quite boring and you feel sick after eat too much of it. But their food qualty is good. My verdict: 7/10

A few days ago, my colleague and i went to Plaza Singapura for lunch. We ordered a lunch set each. The food is quite tasty and the Siew Mai is different from other normal Tim Sum. Siew Mai was not inside the lunch set menu, but we wanted to try how tasty it is. The bits of eggs was the topping for the Siew Mai. Xiao Long Bao is one of the dish that need to eat first before the soup dry up inside the Bao. After finishing my lunch, we noticed that this place have high tea. Maybe will plan the next

Lao Beijing's high tea buffet is really value for money! At a really cheap price, we got to enjoy Lao Beijing's famous dishes and of course, their xiao longbao! One of my favourite dishes are their braised mushrooms shown here in the picture! Every bite is so fragrant and juicy. Also they have something called the pork pancake which is really good as well!Their xiao long bao comes in trays of 8. Their xiao long bao comes in trays of 8. In every bite, the soup spills into your mouth and releases the delicious taste of the pork dumplings! They also have small bowls of noodles with their unque sauces and gravy. Some examples are their ma la noodles and their zha jiang noodles. Of which I really enjoy the zha jiang noodles.

My friend and I had always wanted to try Lao Beijing. And we finally did! smile Their la mian was their specialty, its really quite good. Imgaine the smooth handmade noodles slithering down your throat, awesome right! We tried their xiao long bao too, it was not bad smile the filling was reasonably generous. However, i dont think i would frequent lao beijing that often, it can be quite pricey. But i will definitely return there during special occasions, my mum love that place! smile

I met my overseas chef friend as he was in town and we decided to have a Hi Tea Buffet ($12.80++) at Lao Beijing to catch up after so many years. Having high hopes that they serve good Chinese food, we entered the restaurant and were seated by one of the waitress.

Some of the food items on the buffet menu were self service style at the buffet counter. The hot food was placed in heater trays and the appetizers were displayed on huge plates on the buffet table. The soup, which was Sichuan style soup (not pictured) was in a huge heater pot which didn’t taste nice at all as it tasted quite blend and too much corn starch were added into it.

The Appetizing Cucumber, Beijing Style was very light and crunchy. It was lightly seasoned in some finely chopped chili slices, garlic and a bit of vinegar. This dish had nothing too special about it but it was something light and appetizing.

This dish, Zhajiang Noodles is also one of their house specialties also one of Beijing’s dishes was disappointing. I had better Zhajiang mian out there at smaller eateries compared to this from Lao Beijing. The noodles tasted very flourish and filling and the sauce wasn’t fragrant enough to bring out the flavor of the “zhajiang”. Perhaps, it was done this way to make customers filling during their buffet?

The Beijing-style Juicy Shao Mai is worst than those you can find at coffee shops. There were many of it in the steamer on the buffet table and it has been in it for a long time. It was very dry and not juicy at all. From the looks of it, its machine made and the pork meat in it tasted hard and dry. The overall gave me an impression that it was frozen exactly like those found in the supermarket. My friend agreed too and I was speechless that a Tung Lok Chinese restaurant is serving dim sum of supermarket frozen food quality in their restaurants.

The Steamed Juicy Meat Buns (Xiao Long Bao) I have to say it was the most decent dim sum I had out of all that they have to offer and it is also one of their house specialties. It took a while before it came out of the kitchen after I ordered it. The skin on the outer layer was a little dry which shows that it was over steamed. Overall, I find that it’s the best out of all the items in the dim menu.

After this experience, I don’t think I will ever step into Lao Beijing again for their hi-tea buffet. I guess I'll be heading to other renown restaurants for dim sum instead.

Two Months ago, my best friend and I went to have dinner at Lao Beijing at Plaza Singapura. We ordered Peking Duck, Broccoli and Tofu. Food is good, service ok, price quite reasonable. Long time never have Peking Duck, should consider bringing my hubby there to try out the food this weekend but pay from his wallet.

The skin for xiao long bao was too thick for my liking but I dont expect Din tai feng standard for $16.80 as well.

The high tea starts at 3pm and usually there would be a long queue waiting from 2pm ono. They do not entertain reservation by phone. Go early and reserve personally on their waiting list.

If you are a big eater, its a place not to be missed. If you are going for quality high tea Dim sum, there are many other better restaurant around.
