English Hi Tea! At S$15++, each headcount can order 1 sweet item and 1 savoury item plus a beverage (coffee/tea/soft drink/juice). Since there was 3 of us, we get to try out 3 different type of savouries and sweets each. SavoriesCheese & Egg Mayonnaise Finger Sandwich with Salad Prime Rib Yorkshire Roll Up Bruchetta topped with Roasted Chicken with Tomato Salsa SauceWe ordered these three as they appeared to be the more filling type amongst the choices available. My favourite is the prime rib yorkshire roll up, which is beef tiny cubes in egg wrap. Sweets Strawberry English TrifleBrown Bread Pudding with Haagen Dazs Ice Cream Sweet of the Day: Chocolate MoussePretty decent desserts!Click on http://fun-hideout.blogspot.sg/2014/06/weekday-hi-tea-lawry.html to read more! ♥ ♥ ♥ continue reading

Enjoying some leisurely time, albeit temporary, can be really therapeutic. This time, we ticked off Lawry’s Royal Tea off our checklist. The fine dining establishment exudes old world charm and is decked with majestic 4-metre height floor to ceiling windows, offering panoramic views of Orchard Road. Afternoon tea is a more relaxed affair compared to dinner; service was unobtrusive and generally fine, contrasting with the formal butler-like style during the evenings.Royal Tea is available from Mondays to Saturdays from 2.30-5pm, at $48++ for 2 pax. The set includes a choice of Gryphon Artisan Tea, freshly brewed gourmet coffee or homemade steeped ice tea for each person. Mocktails and Cocktails are also available with a top up of $3 and $8 respectively.Savory morsels, namely, Prime Beef Yorkshire Roll up, Shrimp Croissant, Chicken Bruschetta and Cucumber Finger Sandwich occupy the upper tier. The most outstanding of all was the Shrimp Croissant, which was buttery and flaked beautifully. The Chicken Bruschetta was lovely too- tasty succulent chicken nesting atop a crisps bread base.Petite desserts arrived in the form of Raspberry Cream Cheese Pancake, Carrot Cake, Banana Chocolate Parfait, Strawberry English Trifle and Homemade Scones with Devonshire Cream. The superbly moist Strawberry English Trifle gets my vote for the best sweet, followed closely behind by the decadent Banana Chocolate Parfait. Sadly, the scones were failed to enticed as they were markedly doughier than the norm.Although Lawry’s Royal Tea did not rock my world, it was nonetheless decent and great value. For pictures and full review, pls visit:http://madamechewy.com/2014/09/24/high-tea-at-lawrys/ continue reading

The elegant, much raved-about Lawrys, known for its prime ribs, used to be situated at Paragon Orchard. I heard about it for a long time, but it was always deemed a very pricey place, especially when I was still a student. My friend and I decided to try it out on my birthday one year, after yearning to go for so long. The elegant interior with appropriately lighting, plush high-back seats and racks of wine. The uniformed waitresses and waiters were all polite in their greetings, and we were seated at our reserved table shortly upon arriving.I had expected the interior to be more formidable, with everyone talking in hushed tones and the diners all dressed up. To my surprise, the ambience was rather family-style, and everyone looked comfortable and happy. We placed our orders and awaited our meals to be served. We had the Chef who came to our table to prepare the salad. She literally mixed and tossed it in front of us, in that large metal bowl. When she finally placed the salad on our table, we were pleasantly surprised at how fresh and delicious it was. This is what they call the Famous Original Spinning Bowl Salad, consisting of Crisp romaine and iceberg lettuce, watercress, shredded beets, chopped eggs and croutons, tossed with our exclusive Lawry's vintage dressing on a bed of iceNow, my Lawrys Cut - their traditional and most popular cut for steaks. I chose medium-rare, my usual. The meat was very tender and easy to cut. The taste was good, with hints of my red wine sauce enhancing the flavors of the beef and the flavors were bursting in my mouth ... hmm yummy. The dish came with Idaho mashed potatoes, Yorkshire Pudding, and Whipped Cream Horseradish. For more detailed information and photos, do visit:http://thearcticstar.blogspot.sg/2013/11/dinner-at-lawrys.html continue reading

We were contemplating where to celebrate Christmas this year and decided to indulge ourselves by having a exquisite Christmas Brunch at Lawry's. The set menu, priced at $79++/pax included their famous Original Spinning Bowl Salad, Pumpkin Cheese Sausage Rolls Scrambled Eggs, choice of their Signature Roasted Prime Ribs of Beef & Turkey or Pan Seared Thread Fine & Hokkaido Scallop, Salted Choco-Berries Pie, and lastly, Fine Italian Coffee or Gryphon Artisan Teas served with Praline Chocolates.Original Spinning Bowl SaladA very fanciful way of food presentation, the waitress spun the salad bowl atop another bowl of ice. To top it off, a frozen fork was served to enhance the flavours of the salad, simply ingenious! Tossed with a generous amount of beetroot, croutons and cheese, this ice berg lettuce salad is indeed one of Lawry's signature dishes! Pumpkin Cheese Sausage Rolls Scrambled EggsA unique addition to the festive brunch menu. However, it was a letdown. The pastry skin was tough and hard on the palate. The scrambled eggs were a tad too watery for my liking as well. Signature Roasted Prime Ribs of Beef & TurkeyThe roasted Prime Ribs and Turkey were delicious. The medium-rare beef we ordered were soft, juicy and tender. The brown sauce that complemented it well and was one of the tastiest I've tried. The Turkey breast meat was moist and equally delectable. We were also served a portion of savoury minced meat pudding that was really chewy and mouth-watering! Pan Seared Thread Fin & Hokkaido ScallopLawry's is ultimately a Steakhouse, not a seafood shack. Although quality ingredients were used, the taste was perhaps, only slightly above average. The scallops were overcooked, resulting in a tough texture. The fish was well cooked but had a slight fishy taste that marred the overall rating of this otherwise exquisite dish. Salted Choco-Berries PieThis little slice of cake was the highlight of the meal! Underneath the dull chocolate facade lies the jewels and gems – tiny bits of strawberry, cherries, raspberries and blueberries that greatly enhanced the flavours and textures to this otherwise commonly served dessert. The light strawberry yoghurt ice cream was a great complement to the rich chocolate tart. To top off this splendid meal, a pair of lovely raspberry white chocolate pralines were served with our tea. A Christmas toast to love and laughter and happily ever after! May the coming new year bring good tidings and glorious food adventures to one and all! continue reading

After many months of waiting to eat at lawry's, I finally went there for my birthday dinner. This is the lawry's cut served medium rare. It is really great!! The gravy is thick and flavorful and the beef is really juicy! Eat bite of the prime rib gives of a strong flavor that makes you crave for more! I cannot wait to go back there again! The lawry's cut was too huge for me though. 285g for about $93 before gst and service charge. Awesome! continue reading
