Bruchetta topped with Roasted Chicken with Tomato Salsa Sauce

We ordered these three as they appeared to be the more filling type amongst the choices available. My favourite is the prime rib yorkshire roll up, which is beef tiny cubes in egg wrap.

Enjoying some leisurely time, albeit temporary, can be really therapeutic. This time, we ticked off Lawry’s Royal Tea off our checklist. The fine dining establishment exudes old world charm and is decked with majestic 4-metre height floor to ceiling windows, offering panoramic views of Orchard Road. Afternoon tea is a more relaxed affair compared to dinner; service was unobtrusive and generally fine, contrasting with the formal butler-like style during the evenings.

Royal Tea is available from Mondays to Saturdays from 2.30-5pm, at $48++ for 2 pax. The set includes a choice of Gryphon Artisan Tea, freshly brewed gourmet coffee or homemade steeped ice tea for each person. Mocktails and Cocktails are also available with a top up of $3 and $8 respectively.

Savory morsels, namely, Prime Beef Yorkshire Roll up, Shrimp Croissant, Chicken Bruschetta and Cucumber Finger Sandwich occupy the upper tier. The most outstanding of all was the Shrimp Croissant, which was buttery and flaked beautifully. The Chicken Bruschetta was lovely too- tasty succulent chicken nesting atop a crisps bread base.

Petite desserts arrived in the form of Raspberry Cream Cheese Pancake, Carrot Cake, Banana Chocolate Parfait, Strawberry English Trifle and Homemade Scones with Devonshire Cream. The superbly moist Strawberry English Trifle gets my vote for the best sweet, followed closely behind by the decadent Banana Chocolate Parfait. Sadly, the scones were failed to enticed as they were markedly doughier than the norm.

Although Lawry’s Royal Tea did not rock my world, it was nonetheless decent and great value.

The elegant, much raved-about Lawrys, known for its prime ribs, used to be situated at Paragon Orchard. I heard about it for a long time, but it was always deemed a very pricey place, especially when I was still a student. My friend and I decided to try it out on my birthday one year, after yearning to go for so long.

The elegant interior with appropriately lighting, plush high-back seats and racks of wine. The uniformed waitresses and waiters were all polite in their greetings, and we were seated at our reserved table shortly upon arriving.

I had expected the interior to be more formidable, with everyone talking in hushed tones and the diners all dressed up. To my surprise, the ambience was rather family-style, and everyone looked comfortable and happy.

We placed our orders and awaited our meals to be served.

We had the Chef who came to our table to prepare the salad. She literally mixed and tossed it in front of us, in that large metal bowl. When she finally placed the salad on our table, we were pleasantly surprised at how fresh and delicious it was. This is what they call the Famous Original Spinning Bowl Salad, consisting of Crisp romaine and iceberg lettuce, watercress, shredded beets, chopped eggs and croutons, tossed with our exclusive Lawry's vintage dressing on a bed of ice

Now, my Lawrys Cut - their traditional and most popular cut for steaks. I chose medium-rare, my usual. The meat was very tender and easy to cut. The taste was good, with hints of my red wine sauce enhancing the flavors of the beef and the flavors were bursting in my mouth ... hmm yummy. The dish came with Idaho mashed potatoes, Yorkshire Pudding, and Whipped Cream Horseradish.

Original Spinning Bowl Salad
A very fanciful way of food presentation, the waitress spun the salad bowl atop another bowl of ice. To top it off, a frozen fork was served to enhance the flavours of the salad, simply ingenious! Tossed with a generous amount of beetroot, croutons and cheese, this ice berg lettuce salad is indeed one of Lawry's signature dishes!

Pumpkin Cheese Sausage Rolls Scrambled Eggs
A unique addition to the festive brunch menu. However, it was a letdown. The pastry skin was tough and hard on the palate. The scrambled eggs were a tad too watery for my liking as well.

Signature Roasted Prime Ribs of Beef & Turkey
The roasted Prime Ribs and Turkey were delicious. The medium-rare beef we ordered were soft, juicy and tender. The brown sauce that complemented it well and was one of the tastiest I've tried. The Turkey breast meat was moist and equally delectable. We were also served a portion of savoury minced meat pudding that was really chewy and mouth-watering!

Pan Seared Thread Fin & Hokkaido Scallop
Lawry's is ultimately a Steakhouse, not a seafood shack. Although quality ingredients were used, the taste was perhaps, only slightly above average. The scallops were overcooked, resulting in a tough texture. The fish was well cooked but had a slight fishy taste that marred the overall rating of this otherwise exquisite dish.

Salted Choco-Berries Pie
This little slice of cake was the highlight of the meal! Underneath the dull chocolate facade lies the jewels and gems – tiny bits of strawberry, cherries, raspberries and blueberries that greatly enhanced the flavours and textures to this otherwise commonly served dessert. The light strawberry yoghurt ice cream was a great complement to the rich chocolate tart.

After many months of waiting to eat at lawry's, I finally went there for my birthday dinner. This is the lawry's cut served medium rare. It is really great!! The gravy is thick and flavorful and the beef is really juicy! Eat bite of the prime rib gives of a strong flavor that makes you crave for more! I cannot wait to go back there again! The lawry's cut was too huge for me though. 285g for about $93 before gst and service charge. Awesome!

Finally, the main course of the meal! This was undoubtedly the best steak i've had my entire life. The meat was literally melt in your mouth, and you couldn't stop eating! The Au Jus sauce that came together with it was super tantalising and you'd definitely get hooked to it the moment you start eating it. The bread pudding also goes really well with the sauce!

The salad is appetising and the vegetables are fresh and crunchy. The ingredients like crisp romaine, iceberg lettuce, watercress, shredded beets, chopped eggs and croutons are tossed with their exclusive Lawry's vintage dressing on a bed of ice.
Next will be "The Lawry's Cut" and their roast beef is absolutely delicious and is the best I have ever tasted. I asked the beef to be cooked as "medium well" and the texture is just perfect. The beef is fresh and also roasted till it's nice and juicy with the tendons and fats melt and dissolve in my mouth. I find that the Idaho Mashed Potatoes are smooth and goes well with the sauce. The Creamed Corn is very tasty and naturally sweet too !
Lastly, I also order "English Trifle" as dessert to complete my meal. It has a refreshing taste that is not overly sweet and the light and fluffy sponge cake is laced with Rum, Sherry, vanilla custard cream, strawberries, and fresh whipped cream which tickle my taste-buds!

The Price
Reasonably priced at $80 with high class cuisine

Overall
I will definitely come back again and highly recommended to try this!

The salad is nice and their method of preparation gives the dish a nice theatrical touch, however, it would be better if more cherry tomatoes could be give. Only a mere 2 halves of a cherry tomato (i.e. 1) is allocated to each plate unless you ask for more. This I find a tad measly. The Yorkshire pudding is fluffy and soaks up the steak and mash potato gravies well.

This posh restaurant served really nice prime ribs. But I am also interested to have the salad here too, which are equally delicious! The sliced lettcues, tomatoes and onions are very fresh and crunchy. Not much dipping sauce has been provided for this salad, which you will be able to taste the natural goodness from the vegetables. The long garlic bread is also toasted till really crunchy and full of the strong fragrant from the garlic spread used on it.

In this dish, the tiny pieces of beef is being rolled up and wrapped around by the thin yet long slice of egg. It has a sauce for you to dip the roll up, for that extra tantalizing taste. It's quite filling for one person as it's too meaty.

Chocolate brownie - my favourite of all sweets! It's quite chocolaty and love the combination of brownie and ice-cream.. It's always awesome!

SERVICE
The service staffs are very polite and efficient in clearing plates. However, they tend to linger around your seats or stand there and look at you while you dine, which makes me feel very uncomfortable. They will only look away when I stared back.

AMBIENCE
I love the chillax ambience in this restaurant. Nice music, good food, classy-like-a royal palace! As I sit back and relax while indulging in the afternoon tea, my body seems rooted to the seat and it cant seems to leave the place....

A great dining experience - this is how I would describe my experience at Lawry. Not only is the service good, the food is delicious. Though I ordered the California Cut (as shown in the 2nd picture), which is supposed to be meant for small eaters, I find that the serving is quite substantial as salad and yorkshire pudding are served prior to the main course. I love the yorkshire pudding, it taste really good and goes very well with the beef. Yumz!

I feel that the salad was average, but found it thoughtful that the salad fork was chilled. The restaurant has their own seasoning for their salad

Had Kurobuta baby back ribs which was BBQ ribs, served with creamy coleslaw and fries

Meat is very tender and soft.It is expensive to dine here (app $70 and above per pax), so I would not return unless there is a promotion, which is usually a buy 1 get 1 free main course promotion with selected credit cards.

The slice may not be that generous, but the quality of it is definitely great!

The Prime Rib was much tender than I worried. The fat almost melts in your mouth. It is not chewy and rubbery that you have to cast aside like many rib eyes or prime rib. This is amazing. My friend who had his steak 'the rarest possible' had similar thought. On top of that, the taste of the cattle was sublime. Having said that, I like the temperature on my rib eye steak done Middle. Slightly lukewarm.

Dessert was okay in our opinion. It was something we could have without. Same for the coffee. I guess we were overwhelmed with the price and we just went ahead with everything our eyes saw! the mushroon soup is not fantastic.

One thing to note: They have a weird compilation of music!
