Leung sang hong partries has always been my favorite Hong Kong traditional pastries ever since I first tried their egg tarts. Their kitchen/bakery counter is very transparent to the public thus you can rest assure your pastries are freshly baked daily from the oven and not some leftovers from the previous night. I love it when I am lucky to get the piping hot egg tarts minutes from oven because the taste is fantastic. The fragrance of the egg custard and flaky pastries is so good that one is never enough. There are two kinds of egg tarts available (traditional and western buttery kind) and I will always get the traditional kind. Other than that I also love their bo lo buns (with assorted flavors like custard, sausage, roast chicken or plain) and their mushroom chicken pie. It's very buttery and good! It used to be $0.80 for all items but now it has increased its price to $1.20 per pc, but I will still frequent them for their awesome egg tarts!

Leung Sang HK Pastries originally operates 2 outlets, 1 at Chinatown and the other at Tiong Bahru, however, I've come to know recently that its Chinatown outlet had cease to operate. Here's how the egg-tart looks like! The crust is obviously different from western bakeries and when consumed hot from the oven, the egg-filling totally melts in your mouth! Even when it's no longer piping hot, it still tastes nice with its rich egg fillings. Definitely worth the try at $1.20/each. They also sells other pasteries such as chicken pie, po luo bao etc. Just exit from the right hand exit at tiong bahru station which led you to HDB flats and you can spot the shop!

Leung Sang Hong Kong Pastries looks like nothing much from the outside; just right outside the Tiong Bahru MRT exit opposite Tiong Bahru. It's a nondescript bakery that looks traditional and very much chinese. This bakery has been frequented by my family since 2 years back when we accidentally discovered it while exploring Tiong Bahru. The buns here are priced at reasonable prices of $1.10, and they also offer egg tarts. They don't look like much -very ordinary looking, but the plain buns are sweet on the outside & also fluffy on the inside. It's sweet and crumbly and it's the perfect combination of bread and flakiness. For $1.10, you can also try the Shao Rou buns which come with delicious char shao inside. The meat is not artificially colored (resulting in the disgusting bright red found in so many dim sum pau shops), and its deep brown colour contrasts to the light golden-yellow of the bun. It's also pretty tasty, and you can taste the meat inside with its sauce! Perhaps what I'd prefer would be the custard bun: I like sweet buns to be sweet to the core(literally). The custard tastes traditional and sweet but also complements the bun as a whole, this bun is a real sweet gem.I've also tried the egg tart, it's a cross between the traditional egg tart and a portuguese one but it's still good nonetheless. The egg taste is not overly strong such that it overpowers the crustiness of the pastry, but it's also pleasantly sweet, balanced out with the slight savoury of the crust. For such reasonable prices, I keep going back to this place, buying at least 5-10 items each time I'm there. My favourite, for some reason, is always the plain bun. It's simple and the flavours have a very fundamental sweetness to them, however, the bun is made complex through its texture: the contrast between the flakiness of the pastry skin VS the fluffiness of the bun. But if you do keep it overnight though, pop it in the toaster the next time you eat it and it's beyond perfect!

Daily Bakes which are sold off swiftly - Egg Tarts from this pastry shop are always the hotsellers. 2 versions of the Egg Tarts - One in the traditonal pastry crust and another in the western style where the crust is not so flaky and has a little butter taste. Either one the egg filling is pretty thick. When freshly baked, the crust is so crispy and the egg filling so soft and smooth. This shop sells other pastries like Bo Lo Bao(菠箩包, plain ones as well as some with fillings,Walnut Cookies, Lotus Paste pastries, Baked Char Siew Bao etc. A good place for one looking for Chinese tasty pastries. Egg Tarts are priced at a $1 each.
