The Famous Hainanese chicken rice could not cater enough portion to our group and we had to switch dining place. Served by a fair-skinned guy who looks like Chinese. Wanted to order the avocado and gado gado but items were sold out. The signature Ayam Penyet is one dish that we will try. Deeply fried to golden perfection with crumbs on top. Come with fried tahu and fried tempeh. The chilli was very spicy but shiok!Cost: S$6.00 and it doesnt include rice.Soto Ayam Lamogan comes with vermicelli. If you like something bland and light, you can go for this. Cost: S$6.00Some "exotic" drinks from the menu since my favourite Avocado drinks are sold out. A mixture of basil seeds with attap seeds in syrup. Tastes something different.Egg plants are spicy and soft, a little bit oily though. The tahu Goreng comes with a special sauce that turns a simple fried tahu dish into something different. Sweet and tastes a bit like the Japanese sesame cream sauce. The restaurant is quite compact and it is not pram-friendly. For those who wants to bring prams, prams have to be "parked" outside the restaurant. My friend had to do that and hand carry the baby while dining. Read More

For a non-chili person like myself, it's a really rare occasion for me to be eating Indonesian cuisine. I ordered their signature Ayam Penyet ($6) and a glass of Avocado with Gula Melaka ($3.50). The chicken was really crispy and tasty on its own, even without the chili. And the meat was still quite juicy and not dried out. It also comes with fried tempeh which was really crispy too. Our table ordered 4 plates of ayam penyet, but the chicken size on each plate was considerably different - some much smaller than the rest (to cater for small eaters like myself, I guess).Read More

Merlion Wayfarer found this outlet next to its famous competitor in Far East Plaza. Zero queue and yet serving the same famous dish.http://merlionwayfarer.blogspot.sg/2012/10/nothing-beyond-spiciness.htmlRiceRice was warm and fluffy and served warm. Very good. Only that it was served way before anything arrived. It was only 15 minutes later that the food arrived. Fortunately, the wait staff took back the rice upon request.Ayam Penyet (S$6)Ayam Penyet Surabaya is prepared the authentic way as it is over at Surabaya, Indonesia’s second largest city. The price is lower compared to $6.50 at Ayam Penyet Ria, with the size of the chicken is a little smaller too.The smashed fried chicken (Small!) is served on a banana leaf with lots of crispy crumbs (So few!), a slice of fried soyabean (Salty!) and a piece of fried beancurd (Cold!). It is accompanied by their potent homemade chili sauce and a slice of cucumber to cool the palate.BBQ SquidLike the Ayam Penyet, the BBQ Squid is served on a banana leaf. The squid is laden with very potent Indonesian-style chili. The portion here is small too, and the squid is overcooked and tough. There is no taste other than the spiciness. Another totally disappointing experience.Read More

That was the very first thing that caught my eye when i walk past that stall. Its located on the same level as the more famous Ayam Penyet Ria. I chose it over the latter due to the more cosy and home feel. Gives an impression is a small comfortable restaurant/cafe where i can grab a nice dinner. Order the following ayam penyet surabaya, ayam bakar, stir fried long beans (cah kacang) and cendol. The chilli that comes with the main dish is power, definitely not for those who do not like spicy stuff. Cendol was a little too sweet but after allowing the ice to melt more, the taste was more enjoyable. If there's only one thing to complain about is the slow service but it was break fast timing so i guess its understandable. Overall a good eat, will definitely recommend it. Return to visit: Yes.Read More
