A quaint little Japanese-Western fusion restaurant located at Bugis Junction, and has been around for years (thankfully), well known for its delicious pasta and other dishes, Ma Maison was the choice for us that day as we headed for lunch. The Buddy selected the famous Hamburger Steak Set (SGD$16.50) - juicy, thick patty with sunny side up egg, side vegetables and mashed potato, served with rice or burger. The burger was tender, grilled to perfect with hints of smokiness to its flavor, yet still retaining the lusciousness of beef's natural flavor. Pity the Buddy asked for the egg to be cooked fully, because the steak is best eaten with the egg yolk poked and infusing the steak, adding to the taste.I had the Prawns and Scallops Gratin (SGD$13.80) - baked to a lovely golden color and slathered thickly with cheese. The huge fresh prawns and chewy scallops were delicious and lent credence to the cheesy pasta. The gratin melted in one's mouth literally, scoring points immediately. For dessert, there was a slice of Grape Tart - huge, juicy grapes that were sweet, not sour. They did not taste processed, and are laid out beautifully in red and green tones, atop a crunchy biscuit base. I loved how the grapes popped literally in our mouths before we settled the sweetness with the more solid crusty base. For full review and more photographs, please free to visit:http://thearcticstar.blogspot.sg/2015/02/lunch-at-ma-maison-japanese-restaurant.htmlRead More

A friend bought a simple, pleasant lunch at ma maison @ central today on 9.12.2014.he was taking good care & review of my tooth implant. after that we went for lunch at central below his clinic. he ordered a tonkatsu set & i ordered a beef don set. place was really rustic & pleasant.the set came with simple garden salad. olives were nice. my friends laughed when he asked me to try the soup (came with his tonkatsu set. my beef don came with miso soup) and i said tasted exactly as i expected.what to expect of soup of the day for a S$12.90 set include coffee? i tried a piece of his tonakatsu. it was good. the pasta was ok also. my beef don was ok too. beef was flavourful & sauce was nice taken with a bit of rice. :-) it was a very passable lunch. there was also coffee with the set. ambience was great & food better than average. i would pick this over waraku (restaurant next to it).See my full reviews & photos at = http://chefquak.com/2014/12/09/pleasant-lunch-ma-maison-on-9dec2014/Read More

There was some up to standard restaurants in Bugis did appeal me, one of them was Ma Maison. Frankly speaking, my impression towards it was rather pricey before visiting. But after having a look at the Menu, most of their main dishes were reasonably priced. Service was excellent, attentive manager and friendly staffs.Easy to spot with its wooden exterior, large white words were visible obviously. Considered a Japanese-Italian Cuisines Restaurant, yet the decoration was predominately European. Environment was comfy welcoming, everything was neat and clean.Mouth-watering appearance with a heavenly good smell, the plate was freshly cooked and well-blended in milky cheesy gravy. Truly creamy without additional condiments, noodles remained springy and stir-fried until perfection. Mushrooms, Eggs and Bacons were generously mixed around, slightly soggy but not too greasy. Somehow I quite fancy about the “Check Out” Concept, we were given a key that literally means which table we seated. Showed it to cashier and paid our bill, exactly checking out process at a hotel lobby.Read More

Hamburger steak: $16.90. There were fried potato and carrots at the side. The potato was moist and soft within while the skin was pan fried. The sauce of the hamburger was not too salty nor sweet and it went well with the hamburger steak. The hamburger steak was slightly juicy too and not oily. Overall it is worth a try, especially when there is 20% off ala carte items on monday (ladies' night)!Read More

Went for set lunch with BFF at Ma Maison Bugis, we always decide on the set lunch as it is value for money. Usually below S$20 with soup, main course, salad, french baguette and dessert. The soup of the day changes daily, that day it happened to be Tomato soup, the soup is not too sour and goes very well with the fresh, warm, crispy french baguette. The salad is fresh and dressed with thousand island sauce. I love that there are olives in the salad. I choose to have steak and spagetti for the main. The steak is very well done, i ask for medium and it is really medium not like some restaurant that cannot cook steak doness accurately. The steak is cook on the outside and pink in the inside, the brown sauce is delicious and the spagetti is al dante. Marvelous. The dessert for set lunch is ice cream, you can choose either, chocolate, vanilla or strawberry. I choose strawberry, but it was not scoop properly, hence the ugly shape in the photo but still delicious. Read More

It's been a long while since we last ate at Ma Maison and as we were undecided on our lunch venue, we decided to revisit this quaint little restaurant to satisfy our Western-Japanese cravings.Tonteki Set ($19.80++)The Tonteki Set was delicious. The soft tender cutlet blended well with the BBQ sauce and each bite releases a juicy burst of flavours.Strawberry & Kiwi Tart ($4.80++)The dessert, however, as a disappointment. This was their promotional item for the day and we could see why. The tart was a little soggy and lacked the buttery fragrance we were expecting. It was also a tad too sweet from what we remember it to be. Hopefully this was only a slip and not a general dip in their dessert quality. In all, a lovely place with great ambience to spend a lazy weekend afternoon catching up with friends... Read More

I am a big fan of Ma Maison with their French décor and somewhat homey ambience. This coincides well with their name, Ma Maison which otherwise stands for My Home. Lovely! Ma Maison is a Japanese restaurant offering a mix of Japanese and Western cuisine (expect offerings like pasta, pizza as well as Jap dishes like tonkatsu and omu rice). I was there for dinner with my sisters and even though we reached quite early (around 7pm), there was a long queue extending to the outsides of the restaurant. I believe we waited close to an hour before we entered. The restaurant is quite dim, save for some lamps at the table sides and small candles lighted on each table. We ordered pizza along with two other main courses and drinks. Nearing the end of the meal I decided to order desserts as well. The latter is a newer addition to their menu which was not present previously.Among the three dishes, I loved the pizza the most. The tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet) was quite tough to bite into, but I guess that’s just pork for you. The stone pot rice was average. However i do love that there is a layer of rice above the rice, and so it covers it like omu-rice. Maybe I will come back and try their other variations. To make payment, we would be handed a metal rectangular tag and key. Quite cool if you ask me. Like checking out of a hotel or something. The food’s awesome(especially the pizza) and I would definitely return for more.Read More

the week is moving at a snail's paceso here at ma maison, i got a portion of these french escargots for myself.loved it that the butter garlic olive oil sauce is always so good. the escargots might be a bit iffy to people who have not tried such a delicacy before but it tastes just like the bamboo clams. with the same kind of chewy texture.a tip for all. always bite them into half and use the other half to dip into the small valleys in the metal plates just to make sure you get as much of the sauce as possible.it's bad but it's so good!Read More

Totally a must try! looks small but totally filling. No beefy smell to the Hamburger patty. Patty is juicy and not over cook at all!Love this tart that I have ordered as well. the blue berries are crunchy and yummy and not soggy at all! Sweet but not jelat. awesome sweet note to end a meal.A little sour and if you don't love sour food like me, don't try their Strawberry Tart or Mixed berries Tart. My big eater boyfriend picked their tonkatsu and initially I thought it would at least come with rice but apparently as you can see, it did not. The pork cutlet only come with additional lettuce salad. Their Japanese salad dressing is awesome and worth a try! According to him, the portion still fill his stomach just nice after all so not too bad I guess? This place is a little noisy but ambience and lighting of this place is good for couple dates if you don't mind the noisy environment. The day I popped by I even witnessed a guy proposed to his teary girlfriend before her group of her girlfriends. :)Read More

Came to ma maison for some desserts after dinner at around bugis area. Was here before and decided to came back because of the nice ambience.I had their fruit tart and it presentation make it look very appetizing. The tart is well decorated with grapes. The grapes are fortunately sweet and not sour! the tart taste good too. And the cream is just nice not too thick or rich which does not make me feel sick after eating it. Read More

Tired out the famous dish at Ma Maison - Hamburger steak. It is pretty mediocre. The portion is quite small to keep me full too. However, the sauce is not bad which compliments well with the steak. Was expecting the steak to be tastier. The sunny side up makes the entire dish looks more appealing. Overall, this dish is pretty average. The thing that i like about this restaurant is its ambience. I find it very suitable for couples to dine in there together. Read More

After having a good experience with their outlet in Clarke Quay Central, was looking forward to another good meal here. The ambiance was equally nice in this outlet. Dim lights, cosy seats just that it doesn't have the view of the Singapore River just like the outlet in Central.Ordered their Escargot and Caesar Salad again. Like my last visit to their central outlet, they were extremely good. Ordered 2 new items that i didn't try before Squid Ink Pasta - Chewy Pasta with bits of diced squid and mushroom. The squid ink added a fresh seafood flavor to the pasta. Beef Stroganov Butter rice - The beef stew was very tasty and the omelette was cooked just nice. Read More

Ma Maison is famous for its hamburger steak, or so I read from websites and other recommendations, so I decided to give it a try. There is a sunny side up egg placed on top of the steak, which was not too runny, and the steak itself was flavourful, topped with their own gravy which goes well with the steak. Presentation wise it was also well prepared, and looks enticing. The whole dish is actually quite filling, and I struggled to finish.Read More

Restaurant is located at a corner, nice ambience, serving unique fusion of japanese & western food at affordable prices. There's also attractive looking yummy fruit tarts on the display shelf.*take note, you might need to queue & wait especially on weekends, lunch or dinner time.. many people ordered the escargots, spaghetti, seafood platter. assorted flavours of fruit tarts to choose from. service is good, i got my seat quite fast even though on the queue too. The tokatsu is tender on the inside, not too hard unlike others, perhaps deep-frying for too long. The coating is also crispy on the outside, not too thick. The side dishes which came as a set, are also good, to reduce greasiness of usual deep-fried food.Love the matcha ice cream, is rich in taste and smooth in texture.Read More

This quaint, charming restaurant looks like a western countryside house on the interior is big on ambiance (looks really romantic at night due to the soft light emitting from the table lamps and the view of the river), decent on food (there are hits and misses)...A great place to spot the Japaneses having their family outings there, couples and groups of well dressed ladies...We order Hamburger Steak, Spaghetti and Omu Rice & Escargot!!Hamburger Steak --> This is one of MM's signature dishes, Japanese style! its not really a steak but a large burger patty with an egg on top, or you can request not to get egg which I did...Spaghetti --> Nevertheless, their main course was ambrosia decent...I had the squid ink pasta and it was wicked! The spaghetti was tasty and the sauce was full of flavor, making my brother crave for more...Omu Rice --> The butter rice wrapped with egg omelette was awesome but the sauce was too salty for my liking...Escargot --> Slimy and chewy with a rough, tongue-like texture, the butter it is baked in does lend a lot of flavor..."Deeelicious!"Enjoyable lunch but still worth a visit...!!Read More
