Chanced upon this place along boat quay, it was very quiet with only two other tables at 8pm.. When you want to order, push the button on the table and a waiter will come to you .. Most of the mains like the sheperds pie or the salmon cross isn't or the honey oat burger that we had cane with a salad and soft drink.. I love their salad that had raisins and green apples with mayo in it a good healthy crunch!! the honey oat burger is also very delicious.. The meat as you can tell isn't frozen.. It's very juicy and tender unlike most highly processed burger meat is like! The salmon portion was generous in the ciabatta bread..  The shepherds pie came piping hot and we had to wait awhile for it to cool super yummy mashed potatoes with cheese and beef   continue reading

Nestled against the river bank along Singapore River lies a rather new patisserie spot, with its distinctive logo resembling that of Antoinette's. But besides the Queen's head against Tiffany blues backdrop, and serving delectable pastries, I believe that's where the similarities end.Complete with casual, lounging type of furniture as well as a pretty lawn-type alfresco seating area (offering views of the famous river), Madame Patisserie's is famous for its three-tier high tea set, which was one of the reasons that drew me forth. We shared the famous 3-tiered High Tea set (SGD$33.00) - comprising of an assortment of savoury items as well as desserts. The items were simple but delicious without being too overwhelming, the flavors succint in their miniature forms. The top tier was the scones - fluffy and solid without being rock hard, in fact the perfect texture with powdery hints. They were not too sweet, so went well on their own or paired with one of the many jams served - raspberry, strawberry, pineapple, butter etc.Next, there were the Cheese Egg Mayo pastries - a very homely recipe done right - simple but tasty on soft pastry. Then the Smoked Salmon Baguette - lightly flavored by the pickle slice it came with. Smoked salmon rarely, if never, go wrong for me, as long as it is not un-fresh.Next to it was the Smoked Chicken Sandwich - another delicacy masked by the rich flavor of creamThe Cucumber Sandwich next to it was also creamed with cheese, making it a delightfully sweet and crisply-fresh dishThe Raspberry Cheesecake was soft and moist, with the rich flavor of raspberry bursting forth in the mouth once chewed. The Vanilla Dome was another soft and moist creation, complete with the richness of vanilla's overtureWe loved the Nutella Tart - crusty and vivid in its velvety chocolate's smoothness.Lastly, the Lemon and Blueberry Crumble - a soft reminiscant of a muffin with well-developed flavors of citrus and berries all in oneFor full review and more photos, please feel free to visit:http://thearcticstar.blogspot.sg/2014/11/tea-at-madame-patisserie-boat-quay.html continue reading

Located at the Boat Quay, this small cafe is popped out from the rest of the restaurants from the row of shophouses by its green patch of faux grass in its alfresco area by the river. As it is quite hot, most tends to sit indoor. The cafe is by Sherie Quek, who is Former Ritz-Carlton head pastry chef. The cafe is bright and simple looking with a a glass-encased kitchen at the back. There is also a small area for kids to play. The menu has wooden looking cover and looks quite unique.Lemon Meringue Tart ($4.50++)The tart is surprising soft and easily slices off with a fork. It tastes slightly tart and not too sweet.Shepherd’s Pie ($11.90++)Minced Lamb in a savoury tomato based sauce with carrots, celery and onions. Topped with Mashed Potatoes. It comes with a choice of Waldorf, Potato or Green Salad. The main course also served with a drink.I could barely taste the mashed potatoes which is overwhelmed by the melted cheese. The minced lamb mixture below it tastes quite watery. The waldorf salad that served with it is quite crunchy and light.Pineapple Upside Down Loaf Cake ($6.50)Alcohol laced pineapple cubes topped the simple pound cake, giving it a punch in taste. Banana Loaf Cake ($6.50)The cakes taste quite soft and nice.High Tea Set with a pot of tea ($32++)Selected from a list of different teas, the rooibos vanilla tea is served in a pot with a teabag and tastes quite thick and nice.At the top tier, it is buttery scones (Plain & Raisin), accompanied by butter & a selection of homemade Jams (strawberry, blueberry, pineapple and chocolate raspberry). The scone is very soft and buttery, topped with the various jams ( especially the pineapple jam) it tastes even better. At the second tier, it is filled with different sandwiches.Egg Mayonnaise sandwichEgg Mayonnaise in a soft brioche bun with scorched cheddarQuite cute looking and tastes quite soft and buttery.Smoked Chicken sandwichShredded smoked chicken with espelette pepper mayonnaise on focacciaTastes light and buttery.Smoked Salmon sandwichSmoked salmon with trio of pickled onions, gherkins & capers on multigrain breadA simple and not too salty sandwich.Cucumber sandwichThinly sliced cucumbers & cream cheese layered on white loaf It tastes quite crunchy and refreshing. At the bottom tier, it is filled with assorted mini desserts.Vanilla Dome Vanilla mousse with Lychee jellyThe jelly sits on a thin layer of sponge and is very soft and smooth but I could barely taste any hint of vanilla.Nutella Tart Hazelnut-Chocolate ganache in a tartBeware of the melted chocolate which is quite sticky to eat but tastes quite chocolaty.Raspberry Cheesecake Smooth & delicate raspberry cheesecakeFeel that it tastes more like a mousse cake than a cheesecake.Lemon & Blueberry Crumble Moist lemon cake with blueberries topped with crumbleTastes quite light.Overall the food is not bad, but quite on the high side. The place is quite nice looking, but a bit hot with the spot lights shining straight down at the table. The table is also a bit small that we have a bit of problem of fitting the dishes in. Maybe the staff should have timed the serving before or let us move to a bigger table. continue reading

We started with their signature high tea set with a pot of tea ($32).it was served in a way similar to hotel high tea sets (hop over to my blog for pics). it looks even prettier than the tiered trays! And there was such a lovely selection of items on it. starting from the top, there are scones - plain and raisin. They were in a rather unconventional shape, which made me skeptical initially, but my doubts soon vanished the moment I popped a piece into my mouth. Wonderfully fluffy with a tinge of sweetness, they tasted lovely on their own. Even better, they came with the widest assortment of jams that i've ever seen in any high-tea set! there was homemade marmalade and butter, strawberry, blueberry, pineapple and chocolate raspberry jams! i loved the different types of jams (:the second tier was the savoury items - starting from the left, we had a smoked salmon atop a dark rye bread. i found the bread a little tough (would have been better if it was more toasted!) but i loved how the salmon had capers on it, which added a sour note to it that was very appetizing. next was the cucumber cream cheese sandwich which was a very refreshing item with the fresh cucumber and light nuances. the smoked chicken with chili pepper mayonnaise on a baguette was probably the most interesting out of the 4 savoury dishes, something different which i've never had before! and i loved the egg mayonnaise on a cheese corn bun. i liked how each of the items were served on a different kind of bun/pastry, which made each one unique and always exciting! finally, we couldn't wait to dig into the third tier of goodies, which were the sweets! ^^ heh, when a bunch of girls gather, you can imagine the excitement brewing over those ;) we started with the lemon drizzle cake first, and boy, the sharp flavours hit us with a force, livening our taste buds the moment we popped a small piece into our mouths. it was very sweet, yet balanced out by an amazing tangy flavour that prevented it from being too cloying. the chocolate cheesecake was luxurious - richness power-packed in a small cake, and we all loved it, but agreed that it had to be shared, if not it'd definitely be too much for one. the next two on the list were lighter and more refreshing, and i appreciated how it helped to neutralize the other two heavier desserts. the raspberry eclair had a lovely sour flavour which helped to cleanse our palate. i wish the sponge fingers were fresher though! they seemed a little too airy. the grape fruit tart we had was simple, and delicious (: We had many other dishes as well. read my blog for a review on the rest!
