I had this so called Spanish fried rice but unfortunately it was not quite to my liking, maybe i do not know how to appreciate Spanish fried rice as i found the prawns too dry and tastless.

The pizza was also cheesy and was not too heavy, the crust was thin; which makes it ideal as a snack.

Lunching with sis & cousin and sis didn't want anything Chinese so decided to check out Marche after all these years...

We decided to share:
1) Rosti - there wasn't a queue and there were already 2 Rosti sizzling in the pans. Chef gave me one and loads of sour cream. I guess the Rosti had been sizzling in the pan for a while as its more charred than usual. But I loved the burnt pieces so I didn't mind.

2) Fried Calamari - we saw a couple having this next to us and decided to 'copy' their idea. The calamari was made fresh and I went back after 7 mins to retrieve it. The crust is crispy and together with the tar tar sauce, it's not bad. But I personally feel the ones from Fish & Co are still the best around!

3) Grilled Chicken Breast - I thought to go for something light and health as I initially wanted to order the Spanish Paella. Sadly, the first fillet was not fully cooked in the middle and I returned it. Chef inspected it and didn't seemed fully convinced that he didn't cook it fully. He just informed me that he'll make a new one for me and I am to return in 7 min to collect it. I waited for an apology but none came and I just sigh inwardly and struck Marche down by another mark.... Tasty wise, it's ok with the sauce, pretty plain by itself.

4) Crepe with fruits - I was surprised when sis brought back a plate of crepe with fruits! We both don't eat fruits so had to offer cousin instead. The filling is with cheese and that was ok. Cousin had her with chocolate and was charged with a dollar extra.

We left Marche full but not exactly satisfied. I used to love dining at Marche but now I understand why the low ratings...

Other than that, dining at Marche was a pleasant experience. Firstly, it was a lot of fun going around trying to decide what foods to try. For those who do not know, Marche uses a card system whereby you will scan your card whenever you order food from small stalls located in Marche in a style very much like a food court. At the end of your visit you will head to the check out counter where your card is scanned in and the total bill is tabulated from there. The bad thing about the card system is you tend to forget about the bill and order to your hearts content - which is great for your stomach but possibly not that great for your wallet. I spent about 30 plus per person, rather over budget but still we had a great time.

A must try is the Rosti. (see picture) This time i ordered without the sausage because we wanted to try more dishes. Its slightly oily but if you aren't that health conscious, add a huge dollop of cream and eat to your heart's content. Another must try is their apple crumble pie/bread. It was piled full of crumbs and the base was nice and hard - just the way i like my apple crumbles.

If you aren't a fan of sweet crepes, it will be ideal to try out the savory crepes at Marché. There are various varieties of fillings to choose from, and my choice of having roasted chicken was indeed a yummy one. With such a generous serving of fillings, and the sauce for dipping goes pretty well with the crepe too.

For those who prefer a light dinner, the Baked Salmon Fillet is a good choice. It doesn't taste as bland as it looks, with a light taste of herbs. The fillet was quite tender and juicy, definitely a healthy choice as it was not too oily as well.

As a major fan of crepes, I won't get bored having another sweet crepe for dessert. Had the Chocolate Crepe topped with chocolate drops as well as fresh strawberries. The best part will be the chocolate filling inside the crepe, it just taste too good especially when the crepe is still warm and slightly crispy.

Last but not least, for beverages, this Bundaberg Root Beer is my favourite at Marché. Shall be more adventurous and try the Ginger Beer next time!

Marche Restaurant really has a rather unique setting in its environment, claiming themselves to be like a Swiss marketplace. There are many "stalls" spread out around the restaurant, and you will have to walk around to see what food there is and order them. You will be given a card when you enter the restaurant, tap it whenever you order food, and only be billed when you are leaving the restaurant by the amount stored in your card.

There are a lot of different stalls separated by the different types of food, all of them Western food. One of the most unique dishes that you don't see it commonly served in most Western restaurants in Singapore is the rosti, which is actually just shredded potato pan-fried to stick together like a pancake. Special but the taste is not fantastic, as it is just plain potato, though I must give them credit for using good potatoes, but it is really not as fantastic as it seems.

The pizza is plain bad. The crust is thick, and the pizza is cold, ready made and given a slice to you when you order, making the whole thing hard and chewy like a chewing gum. Not recommended at all.

Tried several dishes on the grilled section, including lamb rack, steak, and sausage. Not bad, but nothing special about them that you can't find in any regular Western restaurant that serves steak and grilled meat. So it is not bad, worth eating, but not worth going there purposely for it.

As for the service, there isn't much service really, as you are expected to collect your own food as your order. Certain dishes that require more cooking time such as the grilled meats, you will have to go back to collect them when they are ready after a while. As such, it is totally self-service.

I would also say the price is a bit too high for the taste of the food. I would rather think that the price is not for the food, but for the unique setting and the ambience of the restaurant, so if you are there for the food only, it is not worth it, especially after a while where the sense of curiosity and specialty about the setting wears off.

My verdict: Good enough for a try, and to snap some photos at the unique design and the environment, but not so much for the food.

It is a pity that the marche here is a bit small, so that they cannot really afford to have a wide variety of food. Not that i minded, because i always go for the standard rosti whenever i come to marche. The plain one is approximately $7. I always wonder why it taste great, it is just pan fried potato with sour cream. I never did get my answer, but i still love the food nonetheless. And it is fun to watch them cook on the spot. I had the bread pudding too, with vanilla sauce on top. It do taste more of the pudding than bread. In fact, i would not have associate it with bread if not for its name. This is awesome. The pudding is soft and smooth, perfect with the vanilla sauce.

We had the seat by the window, and as my friends and i went in the afternoon, it was just too warm. It do not feel as though we have any air conditioning.

I ordered rosti with salmon, my all time favorite dish.
Actually i preferred eating the rosti without the sour cream.
The salmon slices given were huge and taste damn awesome.
The salmon slices were quite salty but when eaten together with the rosti, they get neutralised.
Dessert was Movenpick's passion fruit mango ice cream.
I love the fruitty refreshing taste with a tinge of sourness in every spoon.
I'm serious, it is very nice! My friend can't stop stealing my ice cream!

The ambiance is good with dim light and really nice decoration. This is good. I kind of ordered a lot of side dishes so it cost expensive. I personally think the price is way too high. No matter how great it might taste, it's too much for me to swallow it. Compared to the cost, the food is alright only?

I do love the reno here, it's really cozy & home-like, but the food at Vivo branch is disappointing to me. After queueing super long to just enter the place, we were greeted with the most oily rosti ever (which make me & another fren slight diarrhea afterwards). The pizza was just so-so. Perhaps the best thing was the Erdinger beer.Definitely not worth the wait... the branch at 313Somerset would be a better choice.
