We were here on a Friday night and even though the location is a little out of place and there's nothing much in the Maritime House, it was still full house. The ambience had a very old school feeling to it, which was nice in a way. There's just too many swanky new restaurants popping up in recent years and Mariner's Corner just felt really cozy and nostalgic, which I believe is a selling point in itself. The customer service was also consistently good with friendly and smiling staff all around. One of the staff, an elderly lady, repeatedly told my friend to be careful as her main course was served on a hot plate which was really really hot. She reminded me of a caring yet slightly naggy mother Escargot in Garlic Butter $21 for a dozen: We ordered a dozen escargots to be shared among the 4 of us. The escargots were soft while still slightly chewy. I absolutely loved the sauce which was made of melted garlic butter. It was slightly salty though. Half Lobster with NZ Sirloin Steak in Mushroom Red Wine Sauce $27.50: I got myself the half lobster combo, which came with a variety of options like oxtail stew, fish or steak etc. I chose the NZ Sirloin Steak with medium doneness. The steak was not bad. It was still pinkish in the centre and easy to chew. The portion was just right for me. The lobster was also good, with sweet, firm and succulent meat. It also had a bit of roe and it smelled really really good when it arrived at the table with very strong grilled lobster smell. The sides were mashed potato, sauteed crunchy long beans and carrot chunks, which were soft and sweet. I thought this dish was really value for money - decent quality and portion of both steak and lobster at $27.50, what more can you ask for! For those who prefer a set, you can add $4.80 for soup and garlic bread, free flow salad bar, dessert and coffee/tea. On the day I was there, soup of the day was tomato soup and dessert was sliced cake.I definitely recommend this place to those looking for decent food at affordable prices, and also to those who long are looking for a cozy, nostalgic place to dine and catch up with your loved ones. continue reading

We order their set meal, with free flow of salad bar on weekends, weekday got set meal without free flow of salad bar ,love their soup, salad, main dish of chicken chop, steak , fish and chips and fruit cake, an old school setting. food portion is big, with this price elsewhere in town, probably it will be more expensive, remind me of old school days, love their environment and food, a cozy place to stay in a lazy weekend lunch, place is quite peaceful with very cozy setting. All their food is reasonable and nice with very big portion, a nice place to sit and chat too. continue reading

My sister in law suggested to have western food for dinner tonight and she had make reservation at this Mariners Corner restaurant that is located at the 1st floor of a building that is opposite to Pinnacle@Duxton. The interior is very old school and cosy and is like dining in the cruise cabin. For the price of $4.80, we can top up to a complete meal that consists of coffee/tea/softdrinks, soup of the day and free flow of salad from the salad bar. I will strongly recommend to top up to this complete meal as the selection from the salad bar is quite huge and most of it tastes great especially the coleslaw that tastes a little sour with crispy lettuce.Calamari ($6.00), nice, crispy on the outside.Tiger prawn and fish combo ($19.50), my brother in law ordered this and commented that the cheese that covered the prawn is nice and both the prawn and fish are fresh.Lobster and steaks combo ($25.80), the lobster they served is quite huge and fresh. The steak is grilled nicely to what I want at medium rare. Great dish for people whom love steak. The steak is soft and tender.Spaghetti Marinara ($16.80), I did not try this but from the look, this looks yummy.Do call for reservation as the place is quite limited and is packed during peak hours. A great place for dinning and the staffs here are quite patient and nice. And most importantly, the food here is reasonably priced and definitely worth coming for more meals again. continue reading

Pass by the restaurant many times but never notice its existence or never think that I will patronise it. Until one day I noted their banner outside the restaurant, it was started in the 80s. Then I would think that they could survive for so many years, they should reach certain standard.3 of us reached the restaurant around 6pm, it was still early for the dinner crowd. We sat at the window table. Once settle down, I liked the decoration and the atmosphere, it really did look like a 80s restaurant. We ordered lamb cutlet ($17.00++), ribeye ($18.8++) , sausage with steak ($20.5++) and ½ dozen escargot ($10.2++) to share. We didn’t top up for a full course meal, we just ordered the main dish as the portion was good enough to fill up our stomach. First serve the warm garlic baguette slices, it was nice. Follow by escargot, it really was only escargot. If it could have mashed potato together, it would be much better as the escargot contained so much melted butter. Anyway, taste wise it was ok. Mine was ribeye steak, it didn’t disappointed me. My mom enjoyed her lamb cutlet. Sausage with steak were generous portion, it was good too. Having said that the baked potato was just ok, frankly it wasn’t the type of potato for baking.Service crew are promptly doing their work. While we were having our food, dinner crowd started to fill in the restaurant, some of them looked like their regular customers as they chatted happily.I would say their prices are reasonable with the portion of food serve. We will certainly revisit if we want to have steaks. continue reading

The FoodI ordered the medium well sirloin steak with grilled lobster set which costs only $18. The steak is tender, moist and juicy and the lobster meat is fresh, delicate and mouth-watering. One good thing is by topping up $3.50, can enjoy free flow salad bar, garlic bread, soup of the day, ice cream and coffee or tea hence is very value for money! The AmbienceThe ambience is cozy with candlelight and soothing music of sentimental love songs best to go with your loved ones. I also experienced the nostalgic feeling whenever I dine in the dim lighting, surrounded by wooden walls, tinted windows, beautiful paintings and checkered table cloths. The ServiceThe experienced staff are friendly and approachable and never fail to make me feel comfortable at all times. The PriceReasonably priced at $50++ for 2 persons hence is very worth for money.OverallI feel very satisfied after having a sumptuous dinner and memorable impression which no other restaurant can give hence recommended to try for all those who never try before ! continue reading
