Situated in a row of shophouses along Amoy Street, Matt's The Chocolate Shop has been in operations since 2012.The shop specialises in dark chocolate fudge and takes pride in good old-fashioned chocolate cakes made from former-banker-turned-baker Matthew Chow's original closely guarded recipe. We were welcomed by the rich chocolate aroma the moment we pushed open the glass door and as we paced into the shop, we noticed the tables and chairs available for dine-in are rather limited due to space constraint.Music playing from the small white player not only injects life to the shop but also has a calming and soothing effect on one's mood.Paying them my second visit after many months with the anticipation of trying their new items especially their tiramisu. However what came was the news of disappointment, they have temporary stopped production of tiramisu as they are still sourcing for a supplier for one of the ingredient.Nonetheless, they still have other new items in the menu like their Chocolate Truffles which cost S$12 for a box of 9 and Chocolate Chip Cookies priced at S$6 for a box of 150g.However, we are not having any of these for our aftermeal indulgence.Latte (S$4)My dining partner ordered this and she commented this has a strong coffee effect.Ice Berries Soda (S$3.50)Drink of the day. This refreshing drink is neither too sour nor too sweet with the soda not too overly gassy making this cold berries beverage a good choice for drowning away the chocolate richness.Pandan Buttercake (S$3.50)Though drizzled with gula melaka syrup, the sweetness of this cake is considered moderate. Bringing gula melaka onboard this cake makes this so different and its amazing how well it complements with the pandan. A rather good alternative if you are not into chocolates.Matt's Fudge Cake - Small (S$4)Their signature fudge cake that also comes in medium which is priced at S$30 and S$50 for a large. The cake is moist and dense in texture with the fudge so rich in chocolate taste yet not overly sweet. Very thoughtful of them to make it in this size where one can satisfy their cravings without feeling too guilty."Come In For A Fudgin' Good Time" - Matt's The Chocolate Shop continue reading

I just want to comment about the Small Dark Chocolate Fudge Cake. It is absolutely mouth wateringly delicously Perfect. I wouldn't come to Matt's chocolate factory for a fanciful looking cake with colourful design and a cartoon figure on top. The chocolate cake is simple and elegant. No frills, no decor added or needed. For those looking for rainbow colours, do try somewhere else.I took a spoon, scraped the top layer of chocolate cake. When I put it in my mouth and let my tastebuds do the work, I heard the "Hallelujah" chorus singing in my head. I had to pause for a while to indulge in that moment. The chocolate is slightly on the bitter side and I would describe as extremely fine. Can definitely taste the quality in the chocolate.I took quite a bit of time to savour this rich choclate cake. Do not be fooled by its small size, it does pack a punch and can make you feel full and contented. I would consider $4 for the small chocolate fudge cake good value because of this.Amazing that I can still taste the bittersweet chocolate when writing this review continue reading

The Amoy Street outlet occupies a small shop with limited sitting capacity; patrons mostly drop in to buy and take away.Must try their Tiramisu Double Layer ($10.00) probably one of the best Tiramisu in town! Must try their Pandan with Gula Melaka Cake ($4.00) and Chocolate chip cookie ($6.00 for 150g) as well.On the whole, Matt’s Chocolate shop really lived up to our expectations as a dark chocolate fudge specialist. All the cakes contain half the sugar content of your typical chocolate cake, plus they use dark chocolate with 60% cocoa content - just some of the reasons that Matt's The Chocolate Shop has won over so many chocolate fans - including us, their newest additions to the list! Please refer to www.ieatandeat.com for details review. continue reading

Visit: http://dairycream.blogspot.jp/2014/01/matts-chocolate-shop.html for full post and picsMatt's The Chocolate Shop is a shop which anyone can easily overlook along the stretch of near identical office-like shops at Amoy Street. The short opening hours meant that I had to zoom here within my hour-lunch break, but luckily with the accompaniment of another chocolate lover colleague.Although they are famous for their Chocolate Cake ($4), it tasted like a normal cake to me. The ganache was too thin while the cupcake-sized chocolate base was not as dense nor moist as I thought. Not sure if it was because local chocolate was used (as informed by the staff) but the proportion of ganache to cake is too off-balanced. But some might like this simple, no-frills cake. Though the Pandan Cake with Gula Melaka Dressing ($3.50) did not look like the gorgeous bundt shaped version on their FB page, it tasted better than expected. Our piece was drenched with a fair amount of gula Melaka, which helped to moisten the cake without overpowering the pandan flavour. My favourite part? The crispy brown crumb coating. The best vote goes to the Tiramisu ($7). My partner was surprised at the instant aroma of cocoa once she lifted the cap. Though there is only one layer sponge and cream, the coffee liquor taste was stronger than most places and soaked every pocket of the sponge thoroughly. Despite being consumed right out of the chiller, the cream was soft and luscious. I regretted not going for the double-layer at $10 Overall, the most anticipated chocolate fudge cake turned out to be a disappointment. But I am happy to discover a decent tiramisu here. And one good thing is that everything was not too sweet. Yes, they sell chocolate truffles too but I am hesitant about them. Craving for some sore Chocolate Fudge Cake? Matt's The Chocolate Shop could be one of the choices for you. Chanced upon them online and decided to dropped by one day to check out the delicious-looking chocolate fudge cakes. It's a very cozy, quiet and very nice place to chill, with a cup of coffee + a small chocolate indulge = Heaven! Small indulges like the ones above are $4 each. It's warm, fluffy within and moist enough. I personally like it especially it's Dark chocolate as well. The folks closed at 7pm during weekdays and weekend's are only for cake collection, so have to arrange your time if you're working office hours. Matt's The Chocolate Shop could have one of the best Dark Chocolate Fudge Cake in Singapore, alongside with Awfully Chocolate, The Patissier etc. Go try it!
