Verdict... not good

The mochi texture was ok.. soft but lack the chewy texture.. and each mouthful is overwhelmed by the saltiness of the mochi.
They weren't too generous with the durian feeling either.. as a result we were very confused by the taste.. it was more savoury than sweet

Definitely expected more

Famous and affordable modern Ice-blended, Mei Heong Yuan had its good reputation for heavenly desserts served. Picture displayed on wall was appealing, overall was pretty and colourful. The space was quite cramped, we need to pay immediately at cashier upon ordering. It was a lively night, everybody busy chatting, laughing and eating.Menu was one piece with two sides, straightforward and fuss –free to pick from. Price was started from $3.00, they offered dessert and snack in sweetness basically.

Both snow-ices were silky-smooth, refreshing without overly sweet. Portion was huge, it was suitable for sharing. $5.00 for Mango shaved-ice, $6.00 for Chendol shaved-ice and $3.00 for Mango Roll, price was still considered acceptable for me. Atmosphere was great, it was an ideal place good for gathering and supper-ing.

I was at the basement at Ion and looking to have some desserts, and I settled for Mei Heong Yuen as I've tried their green tea shaved ice previously, which was good. I ordered the banana chocolate shaved ice which costs around $5+. The ice melts in your mouth and banana pieces went well with the shaved ice; but I didn't really like the chocolate shaved ice, makes one feel jelat after a while. Portion is much bigger than ji de chi's though.

Located at the basement of Ion Orchard, Mei Heong Yuen is a good place to stop for some desserts after a day of shopping. The have other traditional chinese desserts as well, but I settled for the green tea snow ice with red beans as it was a very hot day. The snow ice was quite flavouful and green tea taste quite distinct, but red beans were too sugary. Portion is big, so good for 2 to share.

I like how sticky the dessert is yet smooth when you swallow it down. Not too sweet nor bland, the taste is just nice. Portion is enough for one. Other than hot dessert, they do have cold desserts such as assorted flavored shaved ice. Service is fast too.

Nestled along the basement fast food outlets of ION Orchard, Mei Heong Yuen offers around 5 tiny tables for patrons to sit around to have their after meal desserts. My friends and I waited close to 15 minutes to get a seat of 4. And here's what we had.Mango shaved ice. This was rather ordinary and nothing special. Tang yuan with peanut and sesame fillings in ginger soup. Love the fragrant of the ginger soup but other than that, nothing special as well. The two dishes of dessert cost close to $10.

The two dishes of dessert cost close to $10. I'd think it's a little too pricey for average desserts like this.

From the picture, my dining companions expected the mango roll to be wrapped with a mochi-like soft layer. So they were kinda disappointed to realize that it's actually some jelly/gel-like coconut flavoured covering instead which tasted a bit yucky. I find it passable only. There's one big piece of sweet mango within the roll though which saved the dish.

- Mango roll

Having tasted the sweet mango, we were again surprised to find that the mango pieces and puree for our bowl of mango with Pomelo & Sago to be rather sour. Thus began the debate among us. "Must be from different mangoes. No no, perhaps the initial mango was soaked in syrup?" etc etc...
Well, if you are looking for a refreshing dessert that's not sweet then it's ok.

- Mango with Pomelo & Sago

As for the shaved green tea ice, it was not too sweet and had quite a nice green tea flavor to it. I like that they were rather generous with the red beans on the side.

- Green Tea Snow Ice

The stall is small, with only 2 tables able to seat 4 people, 2 tables for 2 people only and a side counter with single seats. So only if you are in a small group then it's possible to snag a seat here.

The Mango Shaved Ice is as usual, very refreshing and sweet
Technically it's just a mountain of shaved ice and mango syrup drizzled upon it, with mango cubes at the bottom of the mountain. It's awesome to eat it whether on a hot day or cold day, especially if you are a cold desserts fan like me ^_^ Love it.

The Glutinous Balls is another winner, with two flavours in 5 balls. It's fun guessing what flavours inside the balls! It's either sesame or peanut. The size of the glutinous ball is just right to finish in one mouthful if you have a big mouth like me :X It is NOT sticky at all, which is great because it doesn't choke you like some other glutinous balls do... the skin is also quite thin and easy to chew. The flavours burst in your mouth and kind of reminds me of xiao long baos... I like it too!

I'll definitely go back there and try some other desserts that I've not tried before. Seems like every dessert dish there is quite interesting.

The downside to eating here is that it is so small and cramped, and you have to leave quite fast after you're done because there are other people waiting to go in. I think they should consider expansion since their business is so good!

Reason on why I love it compare to the yam cake is that pumpkin cake has leaves a sweet after taste. Try it and you will know what i mean. Overall, the food was not bad.

Had their mango shaved ice. Was pretty good! The mango was fresh and the ice thing was pretty refreshing! But i think it may be a bit pricey. They have other desserts too, both hot and cold. Would love to try their almond paste and black sesame paste one day too. When i went that day it was pretty crowded. Would be good to go early and not during meal times too. Makes for a good afternoon snack!

A strong aroma and taste of sesame, this plate of snow ice tastes especially refreshing on a warm afternoon. The snow ice is not too sweet, melts in your mouth and has a strong pleasant aftertaste of sesame. Red beans are added to heighten the taste of the snow ice and for $5, this plate of dessert is relatively reasonable in its price and can be shared with more than 2 persons

I get to choose the dessert and i decide to order the green tea snow ice with red bean at $5!
The snow ice was very smooth and the green tea taste is very nice and sweet to my liking

Best of all the red beans complement the whole taste making us finish it up in record time!
I would definitely try others next time
