Whenever we are nearby Shunfu market, my wife and I will make it a point to visit this stall to purchase their famous soon kuey & abacus seeds (suan pan zi). The soon kuey is filled with lots of fillings; my favourite is the abacus seeds. This particular dish is difficult to make as it is time consuming. I do not buy abacus seeds any where else only from this stall as it is the BEST I ever had. Thumbs up! Must come early though as they sold out fast.

Abacus beads is the must order at this stall. This is the second stall that i know for selling this traditional hakka snack. The abacus beads are made of yam and flour. It was then stir-fried with a generous bits of dried shrimps, minced meat and mushroom then garnished with spring onions and dried shallots. It is nice to eat these abacus beads with their specially made chilli. I enjoyed eating it.

This is the hakka soon kueh from the famous hakka stall in this food centre. The skin was translucent with a nice chewy texture and soft too. The filling is turnips, black fungus, mushroom with dried shrimps. Their special chilli is quite spicy but it goes well with the soon kueh. Please note if you want to your chilli to pack separately then you have to pay additional 0.30 cents.

I remembered the first time I have Suan Pan Zi (算盘子, Abacus Beads) was during one of my Chinese New Year visit prepared by my friend's parent. When I read about this Hakka stall at Shunfu Mart that sells traditional Hakka food, I was excited and made my way down to the food centre one morning.

A queue was formed at the stall when I reached the food centre. The stall sells a variety of Hakka snacks and food but I only had the Suan Pan Zi (算盘子, Abacus Beads). It made my day though as I finally get to satisfy my craving. The homemade yam double has a nice chewy texture and it came with a starchy chunky mushroom/minced meat gravy which is very flavourful.

ordered a bowl of bee hoon with 5 pieces of yong tau fu, a piece of cuttlefish and laksa gravy which cost $6.50 in total. Although more pricey than other yong tau fu, but it is certainly worthwhile paying for its innovativeness. Come down to try it for yourself and be convinced.

I have always wanted to try the hakka soon kueh from this stall. Hakka soon kueh is known for its translucent skin. I am quite careful when buying the soon kueh, i always make sure i did not end up buying those with bamboo shoot filling. So yeah, it has to be the usual turnip filling for me. The soon kueh here is rather nice, the skin is thin and slightly chewy with generous filling in it. If you are looking for nice hakka soon kueh then you should give this stall a try.

Recommended.

I have been looking forward to visiting this stall. I was there at about 11.30 am and there was no queue. I went ahead to order 2 x soon kueh, glutinous rice and stir fried abacus seeds for $6.00. The hakka soon kueh was pretty good, the translucent skin got a nice chewiness with generous amount of filling in it. The abacus seeds were a little salty but with pretty good texture though not the best that i have eaten. The disappointing one gotta be the glutinous rice, it was a hard lump of rice wi

The hakka soon kueh was pretty good, the translucent skin got a nice chewiness with generous amount of filling in it. The abacus seeds were a little salty but with pretty good texture though not the best that i have eaten. The disappointing one gotta be the glutinous rice, it was a hard lump of rice with some of the grains looked abit opaque.

No matter, this stall is still worth recommending.

I had my breakfast at Shunfu Mart in the morning and there was a weekend crowd. Normally on weekdays, its not so lively. After looking around, I decided on having chee cheong fun for breakfast at this stall. They are famous for their abacus seeds so I figured their other dishes shouldn't be too far off. The chee cheong fun was served warm and I told the aunty that I didn't want any sesame seeds. I think their sweet sauce tastes especially sweet..hmmm.

Overall the texture of the abacus seeds was soft and fragrant but on the down side it was slightly toward the salty side and was quite oily which makes it a bit greasy for our liking. Other than Abacus Seeds, this stall also sells Hakka Style Mushroom Soon Kueh, Steamed Yam Cake, Glutinous Rice, Yam Porridge, Chee Cheong Fun and etc. Perhaps next round can their yam cake and soon kueh.

This is my favorite stall for breakfast. I'm a regular patron for their glutinous rice as it is a simple but extremely tasty dish. The glutinous rice has been steamed close to perfection, giving a warm but soft bite to it. Sprinkled with lots of peanuts and fried shallots, its very popular among residents living around the area. The queue starts very early in the morning but I don't mind waiting. This is definitely something worth buying if you are ever at Shunfu Mart in the morning.
