Introduction
Men-ichi’s rich tonkotsu soup derives its wonderful essence from a perfect balance of pork bones, chicken bones and vegetables. The soup is first boiled for over 12 hours, during which the fire is carefully tended and scum meticulously skimmed off the water’s surface. This long tedious process yields a full-bodied broth containing exactly 408g of pure essence. Wafu or Japanese-style ingredients such as katsuo (bonito), saba (mackerel) and konbu (kelp) contribute to the umami (savouriness) and amami (sweetness) in Men-ichi’s wafu soup. Low in oil and calories, this is Men-ichi’s recommended delicious healthy ramen. continue reading

Came here for dinner randomly, it was a good find!I like the wide variety of soup bases they have, we had the seafood and chicken clear soup as well as the milky pork broth.Noodles were good too Soup is slighty salty, especially the pork broth, but still ok! (A lot less salty than other ramen shops)More details and photos here:http://blog.myfatpocket.com/eijgniy/2014/04/20/ramen-at-men-ichi/ continue reading

After roaming the whole shopping mall , finally settle down at Men-Ichi due to some restaurant packed with people on weekend. This restaurant is well design with comfortable chair they serve wide range of items as well. I ordered the roast pork fried rice and gyoza The fried rice flavour is good and sodt , with the fragrant of roasted pork. The Gyoza fillings are fresh, generous and crispy. I like chewy the skin and dip with the sauce. continue reading

I decided to try out at this ramen shop, cozy environment, I must say. I ordered the set meals, shoyu tonkotsu ramen with gyoza set and sapporo miso tonkotsu ramen with kanitama set. there another set but kind of forgotten. but well, they were having those promotion set meals too. the set me and my dad ordered, were both $17.90 each, I must say its quite nice and tasty, not really oily, and the soup is tasty and not very thick. however, the plate of jellyfish was quite disappointing, doesn't taste nice, a little plastic taste for me. the dumpling was crispy and juicy, even though its a little over burn on one side but still yummy! continue reading

Had lunch at Men-Ichi as we had a full promo card from Ichiban group of companies. We had gyoza, kanitama (omelette with mushroom), char siew don, and miso ramen. Every was ok except the char siew don. If this was not a promo item, then I would have asked them to send it back to the kitchen and just change it to something different. It was just pathetic. You can easily get better char siew topping in a food court compared to this. The pork was dry and flaky. Everything else though was ok. The miso ramen is hard to fault though I'd imagine some people wanting it to be a tad bit less salty. Nevertheless, the pork, egg, and broth made this dish satisfying. Its not a head blown away type of ramen but its good enough. The gyoza was like any other gyoza you'd have in a so so japanese restaurant. In fairness, I've really had bad gyoza and at least Men-Ichi isn't included in the list of horrible gyoza (How can you ruin gyoza????) The kanitama was a bit of a surprise. Its basically egg omelette with light teriyaki sauce on top. This is a sample of simple dishes making a big impression. I'll be ordering this for sure the next time I'm in this restaurant. continue reading

The ramen craze never ends. Continuing on my ramen hunt from Nantsuttei, Ippudo Ramen, Ramen Keisuke Tori King, I found myself at MENICHI @ Nex - a more commercialised/ contemporary sort of ramen place in a shopping mall. If the regular version isn't enough - go ahead and add toppings for yourself (so many to choose from!) - there's also FREE NOODLE UPSIZE - which I snapped up almost immediately. MENICHI is one of the Japanese cuisine options in NEX. I ordered the Miso Tonkotsu Ramen & Gyoza Set ($16.90) which includes a tamago side dish, gyoza (3 pcs) and the ramen itself! It is much more value-for-money than those ramen shops where one bowl of ramen itself already costs $17. Tamago - nothing to be picked on, it is a very suitable appetizer to start with. Yummy! Gyoza - I enjoyed this a lot and I would recommend this.. if you're not getting the Ramen Set, you can still order this ala carte. The fillings are fresh, generous and savoury... I also like how chewy the skin is and not difficult to bite at all. You can eat this very glamly without worries of the fillings falling out, certified by a klutz like me! Okay I'm biased when it comes to gyozas/dumplings/XLBs! Tonkotsu Ramen - I think it is better than average, but I've had better... the soup base is savoury but not overwhelmingly salty, and it is very rich and thick! Like it quite a lot and would foresee a second visit for this. The ramen noodles were okay, passable. But the soup is super delicious. Chicken Cutlet (from a separate Wafu Shio Ramen & Chicken Katsu Set) - not a fan of fried chicken and I think this one is not that good, it isn't tender enough and a little too greasy for me. I would recommend the Miso Tonkotsu Ramen & Gyoza Set over the Wafu Shio Ramen & Chicken Katsu Set.
