Crème Brulee ($5.00++)
This place is famous for its dessert for a reason. The Crème Brulee was exceptionally soft, smooth and literally melts in your mouth. Although it was a tad too sweet, the giant scope of sesame gelato was mild enough to balance the overall sweetness.

As with other dessert specialty dining places, it might be a better idea to have your mains elsewhere and drop by for their sweet treats!

Every drink and cold dessert is worth a try and I have problems deciding on which dessert to get on every visit!

Nevertheless, I shall be reviewing my latest visit to the Lot One branch. It was my second time there (I usually frequent AMK Hub's outlet) and as usual I was satisfied by the quality of the service and food.

I'm a fan of rice bento meals and the ones served at MOF don't disappoint. I tried the Yakiniku bento the previous time (the meat was tender but personally too dry) so I decided to go with the Gindara bento this time round. I felt that the fish was kinda bland and it would have been a better dish if they were more generous with the sauce, but the fish itself was pretty fresh and tender. The best thing I like about these bentos are the egg pieces at the top that add to the texture of the rice and give it a little sweetness when eaten together.

Being an avid fan of salmon, I went with the salmon tofu hotplate. I felt that the salmon was only decent (it would have been better if it wasn't fried, personally), but the tofu was good, soft in the inside. Usually when it comes to fried tofu, there's always a problem of not having enough sauce to coat the insides of the tofu skin. Compared to the bento, there was plenty of sauce to go around (and even left over) and who can resist a delicious dish with teriyaki sauce? I highly recommend this dish (any other tofu hotplate variations should be equally delicious!)

When it comes to drinks, anything on the menu that has the word Matcha or Azuki in it should be fine. They're simply wonderful and sometimes I visit MOF just to take away the drinks. For desserts, I usually go with cold desserts because they're all awesome (especially the sundaes), but I decided to be adventurous and try a hot one, going with the Mochi and An Bun. I was quite disappointed as they didn't turn out like I expected. The mochi was hard to chew (I believe it was baked?) and I had a hard time trying to finish it. The An Bun (bun filled with red bean paste) was a little better, except that it had too little red bean paste inside. Maybe I should've stuck with the cold desserts.

Overall, MOF serves decent Japanese cuisine and excellent (cold) desserts, although you might have to spend quite a bit.

Luckily for the plain tasting dangos which could be used to eat together with the red bean, but after I have finished all the dangos, I just left the rest of the red bean untouched. I will definitely be staying away from this dessert in future.

Dinner after KTV Session with friends, but I only had dessert as I was meeting another group of friends for dinner. Red Bean Paste with Japanese Rice Dumpling & Iced Ribena. Red bean paste was good; not overly sweet and it was quite thick. Red beans were soft and the rice dumpling is quite chewy. However, the portion is a little small. Ice ribena was not overly sweet as well. Will be back for proper meal soon.

I love the hot matcha here as they are really really generous in giving the matcha powder. Nearer to the bottom, you can clearly see the large amount of matcha powder, one pot could most probably brew about 4-5 times! (although I believe it is not advisable to brew the same packet of tea too many times!)

Do head down and try the hot green tea if you want to have a relaxing place to chill!

When I saw it after flipping through this thick MOF menu booklet, I spotted the hiyashi chuka and immediately ordered it!

The service here is fast at times and slow at other, they were also many new staff around as most of them were wearing their own black t-shirt which clearly differentiates them form the more senior waiters.
My food came pretty promptly after I ordered.
This was different from what I expected as the one at sakae sushi had carrots and bean-curd skin, while it was 'replaced' with chicken here. cost-wise, I guess chicken would be more worth it? However, presentation wise, I believe sakae sushi wins in this aspect as their ingredients were all cut into thin strips and laid out nicely. It was more of clumps of food at MOF.
It tasted pretty good and I could see the soup at the bottom, compared to sakae sushi which was less wet. The ramen was springy and easy to bite.
There were also tamago, cucumber, crabmeat and some seaweed garnishes.

To compare the two wouldn't really be fair as they used different ingredients, but I think I prefer the one at MOF as it is less dry and the ingredients seem more worth it! (Less jap-feel but perhaps catered more to the singaporean tastebuds)

I felt that it was a bad combination but if you really like milk-based dishes, this dish should be able to satisfy you. On a side note, the salmon was nice as I was able to sort of get rid of the milky taste with the wasabi. I also ate the noodles together with the char siew rice. Funny combi, but the milk part kind of went together with the rice and it wasn't as bad. I left the whole bowl of soup untouched which I felt like it was a waste as I usually wipe dry the bowl ): The char siew rice was normal.

If you ask me, I would definitely not want to try this again.

This is the Fried Chicken with Cheese Hot Stone Rice. It was slightly more flavourful than the salmon one probably because of the cheese and the way the chicken was served.

I liked how the hot stone kept the food warm and ensured that food is thoroughly cooked. I would give the other hot stone rice on the menu a try!

Being a member at MOF is quite good as it entitles you to a big pot of green tea with free refills throughout your dining experience. Members also get 10% off total bill and there is a monthly member set meal which is a set meal at a discounted price. Other than that, the restaurant also gives out free tea/ coffee coupons that you can redeem whenever you like. You can even go in just for that cup of free drink with no other food orders! All these just for a nominal fee of about $20 (if I'm not wrong). Membership lasts for a year or so? However, the staff is not too picky about the expiration date. Many Japanese restaurants serve green tea that are is bland but the green tea that MOF serves is rich and flavourful. When you are about the finish the pot of green tea, the tea that is poured is of a dark green consistency.

We only ordered a bowl of teriyaki chicken ramen this time as we were all not too hungry. It was ok relative to other dishes that I've tried here. I particularly loved the egg though that had a slightly runny yolk and silky egg white.

Moving on to the service staff. Our orders were taken by a particular server. She seemed experienced but was not in uniform. She appeared to be very impatient while taking our orders, frequently looking up and did not really bother to acknowledge our presence. We were very disappointed with her treatment.

MOF has quite a number of promotions being rolled out throughout the year. This seasonal promotion is one of them. I believe it might end roughly around August as that is when Autumn is coming.

Salmon & Ikura Cream Udon with Char Siew Rice. ($14.80++)
From the seasonal promotion, I ordered the salmon & ikura cream udon. I love the combination of udon, cream soup and roe. The roe bursting in my mouth is just simply delightful & the thickness of the udon is just right for the consistency of the cream soup. I just can't get enough of this dish. Hopefully, the will put in on their regular menu!
With the udon, comes with char siew rice. It is quite a ordinary rice don with meat and spring onion on it.

Unagi Salad.
We placed order for another salad but after very long it didn't come, in the end, it was out of stock. We were quite disappointed as we were looking forward to try it. The manager, Albert, was very nice. He offered to replace it with any salad on the menu and even charged us at the price of the salad that we initially ordered. Well done to manager Albert!!

Personally, I don't really fancy the taste of unagi. Maybe it is the idea of eating eel.. The image of the 2 sinister-looking eels in The Little Mermaid popped into mind.. Eww.. The chef didn't prepare it well enough as there were bones that looks like fins in the salad.

Overall, it was quite a pleasant dining experience & we will definitely be back.

My 4 children and we couple loved the cool sweet finds at MOF,
We are lucky there is one outlet near our home at Lot 1 Shoppers'Mall in Choa Chu Kang.
Find delicious food here besides desserts but that is for another time when we next catch our lunch or dinner there.
We loved the Mango Ice Cream topped with mango cubes, chilled and smooth ice cream plus a small cup of mango syrup for you to pour over the tall creamy ice cream, it is heavenly.

I got another cup of strawberry ice cream for my youngest child, just right for his small appetite. We recommend the mango ice cream is good for 2 to share comfortably.
