Necessary Provisions ('NP') are only a handful of cafes that are located in the west part of Singapore. Opened by the group of like minded people behind Smitten Coffee, it offers a unique open cafe experience to its diners. To say its location is pretty accessible is an understatement, as it is located in the middle of housing estate. If you don't have your own set of wheels, you will have to depend on bus or taxi. However, once you are at the place (the relaxed and most open concept cafe I've ever seen) will encourage you to stay back and have a few more drinks or chow before you hit the road again. You have the choice of indoor or outdoor seating as well. For coffee lovers like myself, you can have Espresso Based Coffees (one price for all sizes), Black ($4.5 for 1.5 oz or 5 oz.) and White ($5 for 4 oz., 6 oz. or 8 oz.). This is truly value for money. I ordered the 4oz latte. It has a nice, simple Rosetta latte art. The coffee is smooth however the fruity acidic after taste is more than what I prefer in my coffee. So not my type of beans. We ordered the Buta Don ($8) which is NP version of wok-fried pork with Japanese sweet sauce. The pork are tender with a slight wok hei taste in it. The onions and sweet sauce provide a natural sweet flavour to the dish, while the bean sprout provide the crunch. The rice is slightly undercooked and it can be better if it use a short grain rice that have more starch.Fresh Crisps ($6) is a must try here. Basically it is homemade fried artisan sprouts (combination of potatos and sweet potatoes). It is crispy and lightly salted. Who can say no to this.Meanwhile, our fried A ordered the Pork Burger with Apple Sauce ($16). Our lady friend that love porky to the bone, only gave one thumb up, instead of two thumbs up. Not porky enough, as the arugula kind of mess up the flavour of the burger. For the price, the portion does not delivery on value.Service is friendly but minimum. You place your order at the counter, make payment and they delivery the order. You can help yourself with cold orange infused water.Overall, NP provide you with a unique cafe experience, starting with their out of the box price for coffee and Asian inspired food. Although the food and coffee are not agreeable with my taste buds, others might beg to differ. However, I have to say, the environment is just so 'cosy' that LD need to drag me out. (Another cafe that listed as a must-try list but does not deliver 'wow' feeling except for the coffee) Cheers!!For the complete review, click / copy the link below:http://www.chubbybotakkoala.com/2014/10/necessary-provisions.html continue reading

For more details, please visit http://foodesteem.blogspot.sg/2014/03/necessary-provisions.htmlIt isn't a spacious place, and more like a communal place, where people can sit together, have a chat and do some reading or school work..We ordered Houjicha Karigane Cold Brew ($6.00), Iced Latte ($5.50), and Freshly Squeezed Orange + Grapefruit Mixed Juice ($6.00) for drinks.I didn't get to try the Houjicha, but received feedback that it is bland, and almost tasted like plain water? Iced Latte is pretty good, and so is the Mixed Juice Menu is "Pte Ltd" kind. Say like, only 8 items to choose from (excluding pastries) in the day, and 9 items for dinner menu. Even so, we took a long time to decide on our food.....Toast with Cashew Butter and Jams ($4.00). A pair of toast for this price is definitely not worth it, and not what we have expected it to be. But, their bread is really awesome!Banana Nutella Panini ($5.00). We believed this can be easily made from home, which is sandwiching banana and nutella in between. Or perhaps anything that goes with nutella can never go wrong? Beef Pastrami, Brie and Whole Grain Mustard ($9.00). Another to-go for item! I am glad I chose this for my main Their sandwiches seem satisfying, where the downturn is their "super" limited menu. But this place is a definite place to relax, sit back with your laptop or devices while enjoying a plate of pastries or a cup of drink to spend your time away For more details, please visit http://foodesteem.blogspot.sg/2014/03/necessary-provisions.html continue reading

Necessary Provisions may be a little hard to locate as it is located within the Upper Bukit Timah maze. Fortunately, there are several buses that stop at the main road but the nearest bus-stop only has 173 in service which really sucks because 173 (from bukit batok interchange) makes crazy rounds before stopping at busstop nearest to Necessary Provisions. I am really loving Necessary Provision's interior. I love the vibe that it exudes - the simplistic dark walls, clean design and a huge round communal table with heaps of magazines at the center of it. It also has a relatively quiet environment as compared to several other cafes that I had been to. Unlike the chitty chatty vibrance that you get at crowded cafes, this cafe lets you have some quiet me-time to yourself with a necessary cup of coffee and a magazine or a book.Their Flat White was good and smooth.Hot chocolate $6Such neat art which I fell in love with when this cup of hot chocolate arrived at my table. The hot chocolate was smooth, rich and not overwhelmingly sweet. Beef pastrami, Brie and whole grain mustard $9There was nothing much to rave about this and it tasted pretty ordinary. It was not an effortless task to eat this with a knife as the bread itself was hard. It would be more delightful if more cheese was given.Savoury french toast with salt and pepper (not in the menu) $5The toast was fluffy and evenly covered with egg. There was nothing fanciful about it, just french toast sprinkled with salt and pepper. They have an all-day menu and a dinner menu (from 6pm onwards). Their menu is rather limited so do not expect the usual brunch food sold at cafes for you will be disappointed. continue reading

For the full review and more photos, please visit http://makanarts.com/2013/12/12/necessary-provisions-eng-kong-terrace/When this place opened at Eng Kong Terrace, it has caused much hype (as this place is located in a rather inaccessible place). Since then, I had wanted to come here. You can choose either 4oz, 6oz and 8oz for the Flat White ($5) (which I chose the 6oz variant). It tasted strong and thick and the right amount of milk added makes this one of the coffee that should be ordered here. The Banana Nutella Panini is also great. Despite having it at night (like why would anyone not order food from the dinner menu instead?), the panini is nicely baked. The result is a nice tasting bread with sliced warm bananas covered with Nutella spread. This is a suitable place to relax in with a cup of coffee in the day. Make sure not to visit during weekends if you are doing that (as they’re almost always full). continue reading

Cafe latte the coffee taste was strong enough and was quite aromatic. Beef pastrami, brie and whole grain mustard $9the taste of the mustard was not strong and the whole combination went well together. I felt healthy eating it too. The beef pastrami did not really taste like beef but was good. The cheese in it went well with the beef pastrami. Rosemary chicken with watercress $9my friend tried this and I heard that it was not bad. The chicken had enough flavour and was tender. continue reading
